Hi frnds, My 18 month old son is babbling few words, but he is not imitating.. Like saying bye, showing nose, ears..no giving shakehand.. But he does remember the things like taking my hand and pointing to numbers which I do regularly.. He will wash his tummy while bath(wen asked)., making me sleep (patting slowly on my cheek).will show door wen wanna go out, but is not telling bye or showing nose(I thought him many times).hw will play with kids but not for long..my pedi said its developmental delay.. And asked for speech therapy. I'm really very much worried about it. Pls are there any moms who faced the same thing or has any idea on it... Is this delay normal or serious?? I'm planning for gfcf diet... Any suggestions... Pls reply Thank you.

I am no child expert. But i know for sure that kids take their own time to do things... I do not recollect my girl saying bye or telling any other word until she was 21 months old. If he is able to follow your instructions - like making you sleep, i think it is a matter of time he will pick up on other instructions. Speech therapy for 18 month old - i am not sure, i know a few kids who started speakign after their second birthday.

Hi ashu, what is ABA.. and what did you do for your child communication.. Our pedi also said for ADA... Now how is your daughter.. Thanks for the reply

Hi mohana
ABA is applied behavior analysis, there are some therapist use this approach, they cover speech part, communication part, social interaction, self help skills etc

Applied behaviour analysis sounds interesting. Can you please post some information about it and some links with good info about it here? @Mohana - do try it for your kid and let us know about improvements. Good Luck!

Hi Divya! Now my kid is 21 months old and has improved a lot..I joined him for.speech therapy.. It's been 45 days... Now he is showing much improvement... Responding to few commands as well.. Communicating and also babbling few words( but only when he wants to).. At home also I'm paying more attention to him.. He can stack all the 8 size cups, 5 rings and 3 colors... I feel that he understand everything but is reluctant to respond...in therapy they are telling him fruit, veggies names colors and normal interaction... Now he says bye but few times... And now I'm sure and happy to say that my son is not autistic which worried me very much ... He is just a bit slow ..... Plz post me for any queries. Happy to help you

Normally, by the age of 18 months, toddlers tend to speak a few words like "hi", "bye", "mom", "dad" etc, but at times, there could be delays in few cases - don't worry too much - try to teach him new words each week, and see how the response is. Don't try to give very complicated or lengthy words.
