Hi all,

and never studied Hindi or Marathi.

Hi,
We are also us based and will go back to Pune next year. We are also in process of identifying school and syllabus info. As far as I know after 7th you can choose foreign language but for 6th Hindi or Marathi is second language. My son speak both Hindi and Marathi but he never learned it as academic. So we taught him basic letters and now we r taking online classes for Hindi from Indian tutor. This might ease the process. You can also check with Indus school as it's international School and might have option for launguage. The fees is very high is what I heard . I believe speaking confertably in Hindi makes the transition quick.would love to hear your thoughts as well.
Is there any board/school in Pune/Mumbai that has no Hindi/Marathi? Else, is there any board/school that has a structured approach to teaching Hindi/Marathi & does not try to teach advanced Hindi/Marathi till 4th/5th Std?
My daughter barely speaks Hindi and has never used Marathi. In 1st standard (Euroschool), she suddenly has to read/learn Hindi & Marathi including sentences. The teaching for English is structured/gradual, starting from slanting lines to the alphabets to words, spread over 2-3 years. You can see that it is planned & some thought has gone into it. Same with Maths, Science, etc. But, for Hindi & Marathi, there does not seem to be any structure or gradual progression. The lack of structure in teaching Hindi/Marathi is extremely annoying.
P.S. Children can also learn English easily due to the quantity of English cartoons, apps, games, etc. Hindi/Marathi cartoons, apps, games are of much lower quality & can't hold the interest of children.
So, is there any board/school in Pune/Mumbai that has no Hindi/Marathi? Else, is there any board/school that has a gradual, structured approach to teaching Hindi/Marathi & does not try to burden children?
Hello,
Not sure if any board runs without Hindi/ Marathi till 4th. My son used to be in millennium national school till 3rd.. and that time in grade 3 also they were not so much into writing and reading. It was more of knowing words . Ex: body parts in Marathi , introduction to Marathi letters etc.. no exam conducted for Marathi. It was more of making them ready with interest . Hindi was not part of syllabus till 4th grade. The school follow cbsc pattern but reference books are mostly ncert . This was 3 yrs back. You can check with school for recent structure. Euro school is not so much structured is what I heard .Other schools are following defined n designed syllabus for both Marathi n Hindi.
For the past few days I have been doing some research and Cambridge board or IB might be an option for you to check for your criteria. Please check on that. -- SJ
@slicksj did you find out any options for school.please share your views about schools you identified. This will help me a lot. We will be back to India in next session and my son would be in grade 7 .
Pag123 Will your kid know Hindi by next year.. if so CBSE will be your cheaper option. If not IGCSE and IB are your options. Please do not go by the name international, as I found many schools with the name as international, but teaching CBSE board. Hope this helps.
@slicksj thanks for sharing this with me. Hopefully he will knew Hindi by next year. We are also planning to go for CBSC school. The challenge is finding a good school which accept new admission in grade 7.
If you are good with CBSE, even a Kendriya Vidyalaya will be good. But the expectation is that kid is good at Hindi and the grammar portions. PICT Pune folks were good to talk to and helpful. Start reaching out to schools in Feb next year. You will have to shortlist based on place where you live.
@slicksj thanks you for your inputs. Will start communicating with school in Feb as you mentioned. We are fine with area near to Hinjewadi or warje. We are trying to cope with the Hindi skills , let's see how it goes. Marathi and Hindi are two launguages we are working on. Do share your child's experience with us while transition. Small inputs also helps to ease the process. Friends, school , academic everything is new to them.
Hello Mahesh sir! I am now in same situation as you! Can you please suggest what you got ? Is there any way other than straight going to some IB school in Pune & pay hefty fees - in order to escape the mandatory nature of Hindi & Marathi languages for a kid entering grade 6 ? Also, for a kid born & raised in Canada, how can I reduce the shock of a completely different education policy ? Does CBSE / ICSE overwhelm such kids - because of their memory & speed based nature of exams ? I will be obliged to get a reply from you!

Hello,
Any luck in finalising school? I am also searching for a school except having Marathi and Hindi language. I think only IGCSE is the option. Any pointers suggesting better schools would be highly appreciated. TIA, Pranali
