Natu, welcome to Pune!!
Pimpri is roughtly 15-18 kms from Pune railway station.
@ stay, you can get help from your colleagues in Pune...
Natarajan,
Tamil people are concentrated in Rastapeth. Malayalees are in Khadki. Muslim concentration in Kondwa. Maharashtrian concentration in SB road, Kothrud(where we stayed), Karve road areas. MG road, Wanowrie,Koregaon park ,Aundh, Pimple saudagar are cosmopolitan areas. Hadapsar also has a sizeable tamil population.
But Hadapsar and Rasta peth will be very far from you. If you want a posher location, check out Aundh. 1 bhk here will rent around 8 - 10 K and 2 bhk can cost above 15 k per month. Other less expensive areas accessible to your work place will be Pimple saudagar, pimple nilakh, rakshak nagar, New Sanghvi and Wakad. Or you can stay in Pimpri itself thought this is not actually Pune and does not come under the PMC.
We stayed in Pune till about a year ago for 4 years and now are in Chennai. Pune is really a nice place to stay. Its not a very busy city compared to Mumbai and Chennai and people are quite friendly.
If you are single you can check out the ads in the times classified where people may have advertised on needing a roomie. I dont know about your company, but in many companies, the employees advertise in the internal company websites if they need a roomie or if they have a place for rent.
Hi NJ,
Thanks for your reply.
I will note down the places what you have told.I am single only. you tld that pimpri is not a actually pune, what it means i didnt understand. Its outer like sriperambadur what we having in chennai.
I will also check with my company regarding the room.Main thing is i need to share the room anyways.Bcse my salary is quite bit low.Whereas eight thousand i cant give...Sharing in the sense how much it will cost.Bcse my date joining will be 3rd week of september 2010.so please suggest that sharing in the sense how much it will cost room rent.
Then one more thing i dont know its not the problem rite.Only little bit i know,English is enough rite. I am waiting for your suggestions please.
Thanks & Regards,
N.Natarajan
Hi Natarajan,
You can find easily a single bed apt in pimpri itself for 5000 or if you are sharing also it may not cost you not more than 2000 or 2500. Food is little expensive when compared to Chennai and if you are totally into south indian food then you might find it difficult. Pimpri is actually outskirts it falls under PCMC limit that is pimpri chinchwad municipal corporation. It is not as far as sriperambathur,Pimpri should be 15-20 kms from the city. Chinchwad is also another option to stay, even in chinchwad you can find tamilians and malayalees. I am also new to Pune but my husband had stayed in Pimpri for 6months in an single bed apt, so I knew about the area.
Bye. All the best.

Hi NJ,
Hope you remember me?. You were replying to my queries during last Nov. and Dec. When did you shift to Chennai? Where are you staying in Chennai? I had shifted to Pune in the month of May and settled now. I liked the place. Thanks a lot once again for all your mails which was really helpful for me to know about Pune. Bye. Take care. All the Best.
With Regards
Kav
Hi kav,
I shifted to Chennai Around April this year. Staying at Mandaveli and still getting adjusted to the place. The city is too big, too populated and most of the places stink. I remember you were asking about schools for your kids. Which school did you go for finally?.
Natarajan,
kav has already answered your questions on the rents. You can cut down the monthly expense on rent to 2000 to 2500 Rs if about 4 to 5 people are sharing an apartment. If your company is big enough there will be lot of employees looking for roomies. The HR also should be able to help. Usually for the first 15 days to 1 month the companies provides guest houses . Check if that option is available in your company.
In Pune, usually the people speak Hindi or the Marati. English may not be understood mostly by the auto drivers and the local vendors. Get started with knowing some basic hindi for mostly used sentences. Like, to ask how much is this (ye Kithna), etc. Even I knew only survival Hindi. But you will soon get adjusted to the place and would not mind the new language at all.
Hi NJ,
My kids are going to Global Indian International Pimpri now. Kids had really adjusted to the school.
Lot of my relatives stay in Mandaveli. My parents as well stay in Mylapore. Which school is your son going to? (I think u have a son right).
Bye. Thanks for ur reply.

Hi Mr.Sethuraman,
There are lot of good societies in wakad, baner, pashan, pimple saudagar. Depending on ur kids admission u can decide among these areas. I stay near pimple saudagar. I also shifted from bangalore to pune 1 1/2 yrs before. We are happy in this place, especially kids are v.happy.
All the best.
Kav
Thanks Kav for good information....i wil consider this...hope the rents are nominal..like 1BHK 6000 approx....do you have any idea on this....
Yes rents are really nominal when compared to chennai. But the only drawback would be most of the apt. will not have any interiors done (say wardrobe, kitchen cabinets, etc). Cost of living will also be little bit higher than chennai. Hope these info. helps u.
