Hi ,

Iam Poornima and i have a 3 yr old son who is also eft handed. Iniially i was worried but later his teachers advices me not to worry and not to divert him when he uses left hand to do colourings or to write anything. From then on i stopped diverting him and now he is using left hand completely. One thing i noticed on him is he is very comfortable to draw curves in left hand rather in right hand.

So i think we need not to worry abt this left hand practice, instead we can encourage them as lwe know eft handers will be more creative and very artistical characters.

Regards

Poornima

Thank you poornima and muskaan.  i got lot of confidence from this group. i am worrying about his handwriting.  i need to collect few tracing alphabet  ws for him. most of the ws is meant for right handers isn't it? there may be a slight difference  in some letters like L,K,F,E,T .... so on.

let me know if you have tracing sheets for left handers.

Hi -I have a 6 year old son who is the only left hander in the family. Initially he had difficulty in writing(which I think is normal for all kids around age 4). So I dont think you should think the difficulty is because of his left-handedness. But we need to walk the right balance of treating him like anyother child while recognising his special quality. For ex, I got hima left handed scissors because otherwise he will not like to do art and craft. Then by age 5 he learnt using the normal scissors. But still he finds operating the computer mouse a bit difficult and also in class he shares his desk witha  right hander and sometimes he says he doesnt get enough space to write well. Also, he has diffuclty in using the hand shower meant for western toilets as most showers are placed on the right hand side. So we have to watch out for these small things, prepare him, teach him some innovative ideas. Keep telling him about the famous personalities who are left handed,, like Sachin Tendulkar, Rafel Nadal, Barack Obama, etc

All th best

C

Hi,

My daughter is in 3rd std and is a lefty. She has the best handwriting and is always praised for her neat presentation in note book and test papers. The only problem i faced when she started writing was that i couldnot teach her to write by holding her hands specially the tamil alphabets. It will not be convinient to hold her hand.So she learnt to write everything by herself.

Radha.

Its really sounds gr8 Radha. Even iam facing the same issue now with my son. i hope he will learn to write on his own. He is now 3yrs old and started to coloring pics with confident. Only thing we need to do is appreciate them as much as possible with watever they do.

My daughter is 4 year old initially she was struggling to write but now she is comfortable. She is very much interest in drawing.

Most of the people are saying that left hand kids are smart than the right hand kids but I didn’t see any difference for her and other right hand kids,

but if i teach her some topics with min of three lines(like ant, snail, bank, bone, laptop, ratar etc..) Daily half an hour for 3 days then she can recognize easily. i want know because of left hand she doing well or right hand kids also like this.

Can any suggest me on this...

Hi all,

I am Poonam totally Left hander and my hubby too left hander we do writing as well as all our work by left hand. We too got Best hand writing awards in school days So though ur kids are left hander don't worry. This doesn't mean they will write messy my own experience. Though me and my husband both are left handers our son who is 5.11  yrs old now is Right hander. There is no other way to teach for left handers.  My son started writing from jr kg and now he is in sr kg . Initially kids can not write so good but by practicing the handwriting can be improved.

So don't worry whether ur child is left hander or right hander.

Ya but as Chaplin said it is hard for us left handers to use scissor. Some instruments also need to be used made for left handers like Guitar otherwise its nothing much difference. Even I like to eat by left hand more but I eat by right hand. But at home if I eat by left hand I feel Wow!!! by right hand i don't get that feeling but i practiced to eat by right hand when I was in 7th std. When I was toddler I refused to eat by right hand by my own. Now also Me and my hubby holds spoon, cup etc in left hand.So please don't force your child to use right hand.

But I read somewhere left handers are sharp and intelligent so Don't worry guys for ur kids

Thanks

when someone is left handed, it simply means their right hemisphere is dominant. there is no evidence of intelligence being low or high due to hemispherical dominance. presence of skills might vary with dominance, but then, its the environmental facilitation that decides in the end whether the skill will bloom or not

My daughter is 3.6 years old and she is going to nursery class now. As she is left handed we had faced problem in making her in wiritng. She used to write in left hand but as mirror images, that made us worry. so, we insisted to do in right hand, now she picked up so nicely. Other coloring activities, craft cutting continues in left hand.

Eventhough, everytime when she start writing we have to remind to hold the pencil in right hand.

Is that left handers start writing as mirror images when they initially start to write? or any change in the positioning of the notebook...

Cheers, Usha.

My son is 4.8 yrs old.  He is going to lkg.  In the beginning he wrote all the letters and numbers propoerly.  but now a days he starts writing letter as mirror images.  Is he write properly aftersome time.  Is anybody face this problem?

aanchal 2011-02-10 19:17:10

mirror images of certain letters like b, d, p, q, g, w, m, n, u are quite commonly there when the child learns to write alphabets with speed..it could be a transient phase or could reflect dysgraphia. check out other things like left-right coordination, left-right confusions, visual motor coordination in day-to-day activities.

Hi everyone. My daughter in 3 years old and she is not showing any signs of handedness. She uses both hands for writingand doing things Nd this is making us unable to judge which handed is she. Any one faced the same problem here?

aanchal 2019-07-25 19:31:49

She could be ambidextrous. Do not force her to choose one hand. Give it more time. See her comfort.
