Hi,

At 3.5 yrs,a child can very well eat fresh fruits as such.My paediatrician has suggested us to not to go in for canned drinks as far as possible. My children too did not show much interest towards fruits, but i made it.

U could try these:

  • Initially,u can start with a slice or two(with his favourite fruit),later u can give him more servings a day.Make it more interesting by making it as a salad, with his favourite toppings like honey, fresh yoghurt, condensed milk etc.,
  • Children r copy cats at this age.So u can sit with him while eating fruits.U can tell him that u eat lot of fruits and u have glowing skin, and healthy hair,so if he wants that he can eat.(won't believe,my children on seeing me eating raw curry leaves to have healthy hair, come voluntarily to the kitchen and ask for it.Now its their dream to have a pony tail,so eat it everyday)
  • U can give him small rewards once he finishes his bowl of fruits for that day, like taking him for an evening walk,or to a park,or allowing him to watch his favourite cartoon show etc.,

I think there is no problem to give them once in a while. But to give them regularly they are very expensive and needs to be refridgerated once opened. Drinking cold things can cause cough ,tonsilitis etc for most children. The more healthier option is to make the juice yourself. It is bit more time consuming but very healthy. Its very easy to make banana milk shake, chickoo milkshake, apple milkshake, papaya juice etc. Also nowadays you get good oranges as it is the season. So you may want to try out orange juice. If you are planning ti give orange juice, give within early evening and not in the night.
