Hi Rosh mom,
The information you have shared on this topic with other parents seeking authentic information to understand is very appreciable.
Can u please send me the info on the differences between IB & IGCSE at firstname.lastname@example.org ?
Thanks in advance.
Dear Roshmom, thanks for sharing your insights to all. It's indeed very confusing. One of the full IB (PYP, MYP and IBDiploma)school in verbal communication implies that most schools that offer IGCSE 9/10th followed by IB are actually compromising on the programme, and child can get confused by the switches. Also claimed that this combo is actually best for studying overseas after 12th. For someone who is not focussed on overseas education, but more focussed on quality of learning/ application to life, which is better- full IB or the combo? How do the 2 compare on academic pressure/ expectations? Heard one of the combo schools has asked children if not suitable to find another school ! Also is it relevant asto where the teachers have been taught themselves- local/ international boards. Maybe some of these questions are answered in your note...so would be grateful if you can email on email@example.com tks in advance.
also someone mentioned that MYP is moving towards an exam at 10th grade, any more information available on this as also any likely timeline? How does that really impact this whole discussion? Thanks again
Dear RoshMom/Anitha Pillai
I am also seeking admission for my daughter to nursery and am deciding for the boards so could you send me the same details around the curriculum for IB and IGCSE
my email Id is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Also RoshMom, what happens post completion of IBDP, if one continues studying in India, that means one has to get back in the main stream arts, commerce, science or probably engineering/medical how easy or difficult would it be for the kids then or any added advantage you feel these IB/IGCSE boards might provide if not looking from an oversea perspective at all but just a logical/rational learning perspective?
thanks in advance

Hi Rosh mom could you please email the details of ib vs igcse to me?
thanks a lot for your help.
helloi am Vijayi am studying in Chennai, in a Cambridge affiliated schoolrecently, many of my friends have decided to move to the IB part of the education available in my school.i am neither too good or too bad in my studiesi am not afraid to put in a lot of effort, for my education i would feel very relieved if you could suggest the best pathi want to chose the one that would be the closest to the right path...
Appreciate to receive your research of IB and IGCSE on email@example.com.
Thanks in advance.
You havent mentioned which grade you are in. What is the reason for your friends to move to IB? Are they planning to do IB DP or only IBMYP and then move back to CIE for highschool? I cant suggest what the best path would be without knowing what you really want to do after 12th and where you want to pursue your under grad. Under the current scenario, more and more indian universities are accepting students from CIE but due to some disadvantages in IB like clashing of IB exam dates with that of Indian entrance exams, and the delay in receiving the diploma scores, some universities reject IB students though IB is a superior curriculum. But Constantly, steps have been taken to introduce universities to the iB curriculum their scoring procedures etc so they have a better understanding. But the changes within IB are happening at a slower pace when compared to Cambridge curriculum. For example Cambridge is introducing exams in March for IGCSE from 2015 and exams for A/AS level from march 2016. So by may or june, the student would have received their scores to apply in Indian universities. If you are already in grade 9 or 10 and if there is no particular reason for you to choose a different curriculum apart from the reason that your friends are moving to IB, i would suggest you to continue in CIE.
I will send you the email.
Hi Rosh's mom,
I am feeling very grateful for your consideration to reply.
I am in grade 10. I want to become and aeronautical engineer, specialized in aviation. I want to do my UG in America, in a very good college. It might be too much, yet true for me to want to be a part of the ivy league (if possible).
I think my friends want to get the best education, in terms of both knowledge and brand of curriculum (for UG), and that is why they are switching to IB.
I want to do my UG in foreign, as I don't want to switch to State Board (my DAD's suggestion) or CBSE (my FRIENDS' suggestion) for admission in a good college (reason is mentioned under 'IMPORTANT').
I think I will be able to prepare for SAT, for foreign admission, side by side with IBDP.
Even if i want to do my UG in India, Cambridge and IB scores cannot be compared directly with CBSE scores. So I will have to go for a college admitting students on a 100% entrance exam. Then I will have to prepare for the exam separately, apart from my IBDP exam. Also, I will have to concentrate to the internal assessments, as this comprises of 30% of my final scores.
If I don't do all of that, then I will have to go to a really bad Indian college.
So, I would be happy to do my Under-Graduation in the US.
Hi vijay, now it makes sense. Your reasons are fair enough. Most US universities either look for AP diploma or any rigorous high school program that your school provides. So IBDP Is the best choice in my opinion. But remember you have to do a lot of essay writing in IBDP. Another thing you need to check is whether there is any difference in the order in which the topics are covered in CIE and IBDP. At least this problem arises in the middle years and students moving from CIE to IB or vice versa during middle schools have faced problems as som topics were covered in advance and some later in CIE when compared to IB. Also try to do some summer jobs or summer internships in addition to preparing for SAT and TOEFL. That would look good and be an added advantage when you submit your essay for colleges application. Good luck..
Kindly mail me the details of Myp vs igcse on firstname.lastname@example.org
