Hello Roshmom

I am at a deciding stage where for my two year old and 8 year old sons I need to make a decision between IB vs IGCSE. I have narrowed down on two schools, one complete IB in all three programs [PYP, MYP, DP] and another has [PYP, IGCSE, DP].  I need some more insight as to how the MYP compares with IGCSE and want to make a decision which is best for my children. I am concerned that if I moved them from one pattern or methodology of learning to another such as PYP,IGCSE,DP then it may creat confusion for them. Can you please share some information which can help me resolve this confusion.
My email id is : Kranti.Kaulgud@gmail.com

thanks a lot

Dear Roshmom
I am very thankful for the info shared by you...its has helped clarify a lot of my doubts...but as i research more and interact with schools in the western suburbs of mumbai...i have come up with some more queries...i would be grateful if you could share some info on the same...
1. If a student chooses to do IB & IGCSE mix as offered by some of the schools...i.e; PYP, IGCSE (6th to 10th) - is there any difficulty they face being accepted in the Indian colleges...for any career they may choose...or is it considered equal the Indian boards ( SSC,ICSE,CBSE) as explained in your attached mail...as CIE methodology is similar to that of the Indian education system.
2. Contrary to above scenario...in case a student studies IB - thru and thru i.e; IB PYP,and IB MYP -is there any difficulty they face being accepted in the Indian colleges...for any career they may choose...since the IB methodology doesnt prescribe to exams...and our Indian education system is highly driven by the exams platform. Would it be safe to say if one has chosen to do IB - PYP, MYP....then one has already made a choice to Pursue IB DP...and apply to foreign university in the WESTERN countries....as the Indian universities will not accept these student...
3. Do the students who have to shift from IB PYP to IGCSE...face any major difficulties...due to change in board and therefore teaching and learning methodology...introduction of exams etc???

Hi. Tina,

I just replied to your email. I think you have misunderstood my message. The methodology followed in Cambridge secondary 1&2 are not similar to that of Indian boards. The focus is completely different. Please read my prev and my latest replies again for more clarity.

I understand that the IGCSE/IB curriculums are more about knowledge and application, but how well equipped can the schools be and what reasons can schools have when they shift from decades of ICSE  to IGCSE.

My concerns are mainly regarding:

Teaching quality (to benefit from the IGCSE syllabus in its entirety)

Quality of extra curricular activities and sports in the IGCSE Syllabus and the additional infrastructure required therein.

Would be great to hear views and experiences on this from the parents on this forum.

Thanks

:)

Hi RoshMom

I also wanted to understand, what next after completing IB diploma/A levels ?Can the student continue studying in India, and apply to various engineering/medicine/law colleges here or this is ideally suited for students who plan to go abroad post grade 12.
Kindly advice, as this is a very important point to consider, before taking the decision.

Thanks
Shweta
