Hi Aarthi

Initially start reading for him during bedtime .Later he would start reading himself as he gets interested. Let him select his books .

Regards

Just read interesting stories in front of him and make sure to express and convey how immensely you enjoyed it.

Take reference of other kids, his known people  who had a gala time in reading.

Slowly slowly he will too be tempted to explore the fun in reading. and that time, provide his books with subjects he enjoys a lot. eg, cartoon books etc if he enjoys watching cartoon channels.

Reading skills are best developed early in life. Check out the local libraries if they stock books for kids. Take your son to the library and let him choose the books. There are free ebook libraries that offer  video and audio books for children on the internet. Let your son enjoy reading these books and he will be naturally hooked. - Rekha

Hi Pavagada,

A lot has been discussed on these boards with regard to developing good reading habit in children.

Since your son is 8yrs old, below are links that hopefully will provide some useful tips.

This article by PT-editors has a lot of information. Linky:

Then there are more discussions on this by parents of 6-11 yr olds that should come handy:

Please feel free to address any specific questions that may arise as you explore this territory with your 8 yr old. Good Luck!
