Finding a school

Hi,

I may be moving to Pune around Oct/Nov and have 2 kids aged 6 and 8. I have no idea how the school system works in India. Here in the UK, the govt finds your local school for you. But I guess it doesn't work like that in Pune?

Can anyone help me as I can't find much info. Should I approach schools directly? - are most of the good ones going to be full? I'm also aware we are starting in the middle of the academic year so I don't know if this will cause a lot of problems.

Any advice would be much appreciated!
