hi to all,
my kid is doing his LKG he is excellent in all his subjects except maths. He is feeling hard to memorise all the numbers he knows only upto 25, but the syllabus is upto150. So pls someone help me to know the tactics of teaching numbers.
with regards
jency.
Hi Jency,
Now teach him the tens. then show him the number chart to see the number patterns. Draw a number grid with some missing numbers. Start filling the number grid. He will start saying the numbers automatically. But keep counting coins, beads, beans, children in the plaground, , vehicles anything you see around you.
I think you only need to teach him 10,20,30 and so on. They catch the rest themselves and will say from 31 - 39 and so on. Will only need prompting when the 10's counter changes. He needs to understand the logic.
Keep counting everything - he will automatically get them .
number grid is the best way to teach counting from 1-100..when you count objects around you, you cant go beyond 15-20 i guess..for bigger numbers, its best to use number grids. you may make a grid on a poster paper and stick on a wall in his room. you may also buy a math-notebook and use the grids made in it to do activities like fill up the missing numbers in the grid, find a particular number in the grid given, highlight all numbers that start with f sound, highlight all the 2's in the grid etc
you may also play tambola and snakes-ladders with your child..its a great way to teach number grid !
the way i taught my daughter was by playing cricket and each time she hit the ball i would start counting her score.. ! :)
