We recently identified my child is dyslexic. Looking for mainstream schools that I can get admission on. Please help me with contacts or other group I could join which will help me get more information
While you are waiting to get into any schools which provide help with this kind of learning support you can actually try different things at home. Dyslexia can be overcome. While you child is in school you can help her with lot of tools available. Change the fonts on the computer. there is a special font called open dyslexic on google chrome. Its not necessary for them to write but you can access there knowledge by other means. There is a program called Co-writer by Don Johnston, which is helpful writing tool for essays etc. Its also available on the Ipad. Research and you will find so many options.
Thanks for your valuable response. I am in research of all the tools that could help her. I will post the list of tools once I finis the research. I am still searching for the school, and hopeful to find one soon
Kindly elaborate a little more about your child's diagnosis ? Does the difficulty lie more with maths ?
Look into the NIOS syllabus, there are mainstream schools which provide NIOS syllabus. Like Baldwins, Bethany, Vidya Niketan, Mallya Aditi, to name a few schools in Bangalore. Cathedral high school had a Resource centre when my child was there roughly 8 years ago. My child struggled too much with ICSE so we put her into the NIOS in 9th grade. She passed the 10th std board exams with excellent grades and then did 1st and 2nd PUC which again she performed great. The biggest struggle children with dyslexia face is their parents - having supportive parents is half the battle won. My child was constantly asked through her childhood and adolescence about her dyslexia and what medication she was on and 'how mentally retarded are you' .
