Thank u so much for your prompt response. Also can you suggest a good developmental paediatrician for my son? I have come across a few people on the Net but I have a lot of faith in your suggestions.
Have you heard of Mary Anthony Acharya who practises at Genesis? Is she good?
I've heard of Dr. Nandita Chatterjee quite a bit and thinking of consulting her too for my child. But she doesn't consults at AMRI anymore. She practices at UDBHAAS
22M Srinath Mukherjee Lane, Paikpara Kolkata- 30
@paromita1810 - I have not heard about Dr. Mary Anthony Acharya. In case you visit her, let me know your experience. BTW, I know Udbhaas is a very structured therapy-center and Dr. Nandita Chatterjee is a Director there with 33+ years of experience.
How do I reach Udbhaas? Is it near Dumdum?
Thanks @KolCB and @Arundhati.while sleeping at night for the past few days though intermittently my son is vomiting. Is this a serious issue? Kindly suggest.
@paromita1810 Take him to a developmental pediatrician first and then to a pediatric neurologist ASAP. You need to find out whether these vomiting episodes are anyways related to seizures or not. These might also be related to anxiety. Over to KolCB for his views. I might also be wrong in this.
It is indeed alarming ..trying to get an appointment with Dr Chatterjee at the earliest. As far as I know no one in our family has a history of seizures. Its always better to be safe than sorry though.
We had an appointment with Dr Nandita Chatterjee at Udbhaas today at 7pm..we went from Garia to Dumdum by metro and as we were on the way to Udbhaas my husband called the place to ask for specific directions. We were informed then that Dr Chatterjee had cancelled her appointments due to an emergency. Are they not supposed to inform people who have an appointment about this? It was a useless trip as we went all the way and returned almost immediately.
I would suggest you to contact Zahir Abbas. He is also associated to Udbhaas. He can guide you.
This thread was extremely informative. I have some questions regarding my son who is 5+ and on the spectrum. He does Special Education and Speech Therapy Classes at home and OT with Dr Santosh Kumar. I really want to try Zahir Abbas for sensory integration looking at the amount of positive responses about him. My son has great receptive language skills but speaks very few words and that too with reinforcement. I need some advice about schools and speech issues. Should I try the Jesus and Mary School in Bangur? We live in North Kolkata.
Thank you so much for the response and the links. I will get in touch with the school. And could you please enlighten me more about language therapists? Anybody in particular I could get in touch with?
About Dr Santosh Kumar I went to him for a few sessions before starting occupational therapy with Zahir Abbas..trust me you can tell the difference...Dr Kumar is a thorough professional while Zahir Abbas is your go-to person for problems related with your child..someone you can speak with and who cares about your child and doesn't see him as just a means to earn money.
paromita1810, thank you for the recommendation. I will try to fix an appointment soon. I got the phone number from the thread. Where in Kolkata does he conduct the sessions?
The place I go to for my son's occupational therapy ( Zahir Abbas)is Paschim Putiary near Dipak Sangha club...if u take the metro get down at Netaji station.... and take a rickshaw till Dipak Sangha.. once u know the way u can easily walk back. He's not only a good therapist but a wonderful person as well. He has given us invaluable suggestions.
There's another place Udbhaas where he goes on Saturday in DumDum close to seven tanks. It might be closer to your place as u stay in North Kolkata. Perhaps u can talk with him and see which place is convenient for both of you.
if it makes you feel any better, I am working with special ed in public school of USA. I am a high functioning adult myself. there are so many students of mine who don't have functional speech but they are graduating from high school here. so be positive and I didn't speak a single word before 4 but later I completed my engineering
Thanks paromita1810 for the details. Yes, udbhaas would be more convenient. Let's see how it works out.
And Pr84. it does make me feel much better. Inspiring actually. I would really want to know more about your journey, if it's not much of a trouble.
Thank you so much. I got appointments for the school and OT for tomorrow. And will get in touch with the Speech/Language therapists soon. Will keep you updated.
I was non verbal till 4, had extreme oral sensory issues. I was on milk till 5. I used to break my toys because I didn't know how to play with them, lining up was my favourite thing, walking on toes and extreme dislike for dirt. but that time autism was not known. I was treated like a normal child. I started speaking in sentences at 6 and writing by 6. Later I got interest in studies and started to notice people around me. I diagnosed myself
later. I remember one incident when one of my relative died and I was not able to understand why people were crying and I was blank I was 12 at that time...we all grow up
I live at Dumdum. My son is 9 years old. He has borderline autism and IQ 124. For autism hyperactivity traits he is very good in sprints, long jump and swimming. We want to send him in national and international sports meets. I want to avail the CBSE board benefits applicable for him. What disability document is required for this.
