I am an NRI planning to return to Hyderabad after 14 years in USA. Right now, my Son is in 9th grade and will be coming to 10th Grade in June, 2011. He doesn’t know how to write Telugu (fluent in speaking & understanding) or Hindi. After going through many discussions, for us it looks like international school (IGCSE curriculum) is best for him for 10th grade. After 10th we are planning to move him to either Narayana or Srichaitanya. He is planning to get into engineering line in one of the best institution in India. He is very advanced kid in High school here in California.. He is doing AP CalculusAB(finished Algebra 1,2,3,4 & geometry), AP Biology, Advanced Spanish, Honors English, World and European History.
Appreciate any help on this topic. How are these International schools in Hyderabad? Which school is best for him? Which one is best suitable for him IGCSE or CBSE( I know second language is problem)?
Thanks in advance….. Sindhu.
I am kavinder reddy, father of three children, two daughters are studying in IIT Kharagpur and my son writing now 10 ssc board exams.
Congrats for your son, he doing very well. You don't worry about 10th class, because here it is not going to be tough. for the second lang you can take extra coaching and you can easily over come it. about marks it doen't matter for 10+2. In hyd there good internaional schools. DRS, Oakrdige, Jain, Manthan, Kennedy, and some more are there.
Its better to with CBSE is my opinion. He will easily get good grade.
you can ask further also
One of my friends who is relocating to Hyderabad is in a similar situation and he has been contacting many schools for entry into CBSE 10th. No school is entertaining admission into Grade 10, either IGCSE, CBSE or ICSE.
I was in a similar situation two yrs ago when i relocated. I joined my younger one in IGCSE grade 10 and faced lot of problems.
Now, I am homeschooling him for the AS/A levels of cambridge( 11th and 12th after IGCSE). I have all tutors coming in ( 5 subjects and English, French and Spanish.)
He is appearing for the exams privately. I found it a better option than putting him in an international school and again spending for tuition.
Surprisingly, many parents joined me( now 18) and we are running a homeschooling group for the IGCSEs and A levels of the cambridge curriculum. Most of us are relocated parents from US, UK and Australia and not so happy with the way the international curriculum is handled in schools here. SOme have tried and pulled out and some have decided to go for homeschooling.
For more details, I will leave my contact details in your inbox. Please feel free to call anytime. I can also pass on another parent from California who would be joining us in June'11. His son is finishing the 9th there this June.
Hope this helps
Thank you for your quick replies. Now I got a picture of what is best for my son. Most of the schools are not accepting admissions into 10th grade. I called Srinidhi got a good reply but its too expensive for IGCSE (more than 3.5 lacs for one year as a day scholar). Does anyone have any idea if there are other IGCSE schools accepting admission in to 10th grade.
At the same time ICSE syllabus also. I want to know about ICSE syllabus also. Can you please give me some information on how to choose ICSE subjects and languages. Which schools are best for ICSE.
Pl. advise me.
Unfortunately, no school accepts admission into Grade 10. This friend of mine has been trying since December 2010. The schools hesitate because they are more concerned about their result than accommodating a child. They feel it is a risk. Probably you can try approaching schools provided you are willing to strech his grade 10 by 6 more months because IGCSE exams can be taken twice a year.( May/June and Oct/Nov). But that would mean wasting a whole year before he enrolls for 11th.
I agree with Shailaja. You could try Nasr-Boys in Gachibowli which follows ICSE to explore other options. Nasr generally considers mid term admissions and transfer cases if the student's academic record is really good. Please get in touch with the school and check it out.
After 10th, you can try homeschooling for his IB DP along with other children as mentioned by Shailaja so that he doesn't lose one year.
We are also looking for Xgrade (IGCSC) admission. Please help us regarding homeschooling. please provide contact details for homeschooling.
Sindhu - you can try at International School of Hyderabad. It's expensive but they will be able to give admission. The kids moving from US in senior grades will be able adjust better here. There school year is August to June so will sync well with US academic year.
