Schools near APPA (ORR), Bandalguda, or Peernacheru: Attention all parents

Hi,

I have been closely following the posts in this group, and have interacted with couple of parents who are moving to this new residential place near APPA junction, and are discussing various school options near that place. I am compliling this information so as to interact more closely with the parents, and work out good schooling options for our kids.

The New Residential Destination!
The APPA junction seems to be the new residential destination, and people are primarly looking to move into this region in the month of March-June 2010 in the following two gated communities: PBEL City and Executive Park. I am sorry if I missed any other residential project which is being handed over at the same time.

What are the options in terms of schools?
Based on some research, these are the options ppl have in these areas (in no particular order):

  • DPS Hyderabad (http://www.dpshyderabad.com/): One of the most sought after schools in the Gachibowli region. Heard that this school is very high on academic focus, and sometimes gets too hard for the kids but when I talked to a parent, they did not support it, and said that they were satisfied with the school. Distance from APPA junction thru ORR: ~ 12 kms. Forms for Nursery will come out in the first week of January.
  • Glendale Academy (http://glendaleacademy.net/): Very impressive campus and what is most impressive is the distance from the APPA junction: merely 6 kms. But, the fees is steep as compared to DPS. However, if you are working with one of the corporates who are eligible for the corporate benefit program, you do save something on the admission and tuition fee; check out at http://glendaleacademy.net/html/corporate_benefit_program.html. The admissions are on!
  • BVB (NIRD Campus): Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan does not need an introduction. In fact, BVB Folm Nagar is considered to be one of the best schools in Hyderabad. However, the NIRD campus branch does not have any transportation so bear that fact in mind. The NIRD branch is ~ 8 kms. from APPA junction.
  • Army Public School: I do not have much information about this school but know for sure that admission is open to civilians as well, though preference is given to the children of armed forces (obviously... duh!). Parents who have kids to be admitted in Class 1 and later cheer up... this is just ~ 7 kms from APPA, the fees is quite reasonable, and the school is at par with the best in the city (this is what I think because it was like that with Army Public School in Delhi). For parents like me who want their kids to be admitted to LKG or Nursery... sorry got to wait for 2 more years!
  • Sloka Waldorf (http://www.slokawaldorf.org/): Donno much about this school. I am sure you can find a lot of information about it by searching this site. It is roughly 5 kms from APPA junction.

What can we as parents do?
While finalizing admissions for your kids, make sure you talk to the schools about transport to this location. Please take time to expalin them that this is an upcoming location that will have a critical mass in the next academic year. If schools constantly get a request for transportation for this area, I am sure they will think and therefore plan for it.

If the school transportation does not work out, parents in this area have to come together and arrange for private transport. I am in for both the options, and know a couple of folks who are also looking for the same. So, lets come together, and form a group of all the people moving in this area around March-June 2010 time frame, and find a solution for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective school-transportation for our kids.

Thanks,
Vivek

Vivek,

Thank you for putting this discussion in place. :)

I acknowledge the issue is more at this time as in the coming two years looking at the growth of the area, we may see some more campuses coming out there, I know for sure that timeschool is opening one in Gachibowli.

Do you have any idea for parent looking for admissions for their kids in pp1/pp2 (LKG/UKG,)  what prospects do we have for Eurokids (Gachibowli) and Phoenix Green?

Also, are there any other schools that one knows of around the same area that are good and provide transportation from the pre-1st class (class 1 below) point of view?

Thanks,

Harsimran

The problem with Sloka Waldorf (http://www.slokawaldorf.org/) is that they take only 6+ years old child in class 1, which would mean going back by 1 year!

vivek,

Can I ask which grade and what curriculum you chose. We are also looking to join my daughter in 3rd grade in Glendale . Very impressed by the campus and the office( by far the best school who are good at communictaion throgh emails). My only concern is  there are not may reviews about this school.  We will also be moving to Hyd duing April/May timeframe. All the reviews I see are for Chirec ,DPS etc...

Tina

Hi Jagriti and Tina,

I got my daughter admitted to LKG for 2011-12. Regarding the curriculum, it has to be chosen in Class 9 as far as I know; until then one has to follow the CBSE or as they say "Integrated" curriculum.

The fee structure for the 2011-12 academic year is avaialble here: http://glendaleacademy.net/html/language-schools-fee-structure0708.htm. Again, as mentioned above by me, if you happen to be associated with one of the organizations that falls under the corp benefit plan, you save some money on admission fees and tution fees.

Tina: As you noticed, the campus and the school facilities are fantastic. And the principal, Mrs Vimala Chandrashekhar, is a very nice lady. She took time to explain us what the school has to offer, and about their teaching methodology. And me and our wife were totally smitten by the co-curricular activity facilities they had on offer. Right from the security guard at the main gate, the lady in the front office, the lady responsible for coordinating admission activities, the Principal of course, the lady who took us around the school, the transport manager, and finally the accountant who collected the cheque, were so professional and nice to talk to that it was quite a pleasant surprise for us.

It won't be fair to compare Glendale with Chirec and DPS. Both schools have a strong history and track record to boast of (I know DPS is a new entrant in Hyderabad, but its a huge and established brand in India). Only 2 batches of Class X students have passed out, and I would give them a fair chance.

Lastly, how much cliched it may sound, I am not here to put my daughter in a race, and claim that she is going to the best school in this country, and that she should achieve the best of grades, and blah blah blah! I am interested in providing her good education and hopefully a school where she likes going to. All the things that make up a good school are present @ Glendale. Its now on our daughter and us to utilize it, and make the most out of it. And, the thing that influenced our decision most was the distance of the school from our house (just 4 kms.); we were not very eager to send our kid to a far off place.

Again, these are just my perceptions, and you must exercise due diligence before finalizing on a school, which I am sure you will. The thing I am trying to stress here is that we need a good school, but most importantly its the student that really makes a difference.

Hope that helps.

- Vivek

Vivek,

thanks for the detailed response. I agree with your views  on not  putting the kids in a rat race and we helping the child to get most out of the school

Hi

Can any body show some light on Sujatha Public School in this area(near swamy narayan) I heard it is good school too, need some reviews as well as fee details if any body visited.

Thanks

Harsimran 2011-01-31 13:55:43

Can someone post some reviews on Sujatha Public School?

UStoHyd 2011-01-31 16:02:53

We almost finalized on Glendale. Very impressed with the response from school and the facilities and the curriculum. My husband mentioned  compared to other schools he visited  this seemed to be experienced with kids who moved from west. My husband visited few other schools and this fills all our requirements .  We will be enrolling in CBSE . Our ctiteria is a school that has good balance of acedmices and extra curricular activities which would help the kid build confidence levels. The only otehr school which met all the criteria was srinidhi, which is above our budget and far for us and I feel ICSe right after moving to India , might be putting too much pressue on my daughter .

indarapu 2011-02-02 12:44:05

Harsimran

I found some bad reviews on the net, and when i looked the sight http://www.sujathainstitutions.org/ and some how not feel confirtable to join. I visited sloka today the jublee hills branch for KG section and was impressed a lot. This time sloka ajiz nagar students appeared X class board exams. The lady whom I met at sloka mentioned that by the time the kids enter into 7th class they will be par with the other schools students.
