Now that my child has secured a seat in Vidyaranya, I have started thinking about various pros and cons before enrolling him. Most of it is the information I could gather from various sources, the validity of which needs to be verified. Also, these are just my thoughts and may vary depending on individual. I would like to initiate a healthy discussion not only for my purpose but for the entire community who are seeking admission in this elite school. Please feel free to add the PROs and CONs that you feel about this school. Let me know if you agree with my opinions.

PROs:
  • Stress Free Education: As the schools don't have any competitions, there won't be any pressure on child to win always. In alternate scenario, the child might get anxious or shame about academics and schoolwork due to inferiority/comparisons. Most people have anxiety about doing certain things and avoid them like the plague. Kids may not be able to explain all of this to you because it€™s not always on a conscious level for them. Here€™s a typical scenario. Let€™s say your child tells you he doesn€™t have homework when he actually does. Not letting child go through these is a good thing. This is where this kind of concept schools are good.
  • Respecting core values: I feel that the children will be able to appreciate and learn core cultural values of our country and become better humans. This is from my interview session with faculty, who informed that the field trips will mostly be in rural areas and NGOs trying to teach kids the cultural values and empathy.

CONs:
  • No Computer Education: I strongly feel that, this is necessity in today's world. Even if you choose Arts as your profession, you need to know how to make the machines work for you to make CAD models etc. Having no exposure to computers is a big negative in my opinion.
  • Only one parent-teacher interaction per academic year: Since there is no exam or assessment, there is no way for you to know how your child is doing unless the child herself will talk to you about it. This will be a rare situation if child has something negative to talk about. As a parent, I would like to partner with school towards her development. I would like a feedback on her strengths and weaknesses.
  • No School Dress: I feel, having school dress is must for equality between children. Just to avoid the comparisons. One factor less for getting distraction. The rich might wear nice clothes while not so rich might start feeling inferior.
  • Lack of School Transport: As working parents, it is difficult to arrange for pick and drop for child. Trusting third party Auto/Van facility is difficult. This must be true for most of the parents who don't live near Himayatnagar/Abids area.
  • Children of VVIPs: I heard this from one of the Alumni who suggested me not to enroll my kid in this school as child might get bullied by children of VVIP parents. I heard that many children of VVIP gets admission in this school.
  • Lack of competition: I highlighted this as a PRO, but it is a CON too. If our child is made for Arts, then the lack of competition might be a good thing. But what if his interest is engineering or medical? Will he be able to crack the toughest entrance examinations and be on the top to secure a seat in good college?

Could you please help researching a bit with the help of your friend on verifying if there is no computer education and if there really are children of rich and influenced? Also, if we can meet the teachers with an appointment and not necessarily wait for annual parent teacher meeting?

Hi i am seeking admission for my child for nursery can some one help abt how admission process goes . Wat are questions asked in interview.

vidya12 2018-06-20 15:57:40

Anusudhir,
First, call school and find out when you can come for Nursery admissions. They respond well on phones and emails.
Then, you can go to school and write up your/child's name in register and fix an appointment. They will call you for interview on appointment date.
On the date of interview, they will just ask you about your background like who all in family, what parents do/their background, who takes care of child when you are away. They will take some notes and ask you to apply for other schools as interview doesn't guarantee admission. This will not be more than 5-10 minutes.
If you get a second call for interview, there will be lot many questions/discussions along with briefing about school.

@vidya12, did you enroll your child in Vidyaranya? I am curious to know about your experience as regards the points highlighted in your pros/cons list.

havi12 2019-01-19 13:37:36

Hi vidya, I am looking to join my into vidyaranya school....could you please guide us on the procedure.. How to apply.. What was the interaction with the interviewers... Now my kid is 2yrs 8 months old.... And kindly share your thoughts on this school

vidya12 2019-02-01 11:00:06

@CukyI am still looking for answers to these questions. I just took a leap of faith and enrolled my son in VHS Nursery 2018. For pre-primary and primary, the cons I stated doesn't really matter. But the pros do matter a lot. That is one reason I went ahead. ofcourse, I will know more about my son's interests as well as school with time which will help me decide later in future.

havi12You can call the school for procedure for admissions. That is the best source of information. They picked up the call everytime I called. Numbers available on google/their website.

All the best!

124567 2019-03-25 12:20:54

Divya02..which school have you decided, my kid is feb 2014 born..there is lot of dilemma with  jan feb and march born kids....with regard to their age criteria....

Cuky 2019-03-25 15:30:59

For Nursery 2019 admissions the criteria was that the child should be 2016 born. So accordingly you can calculate based on your child€™s birth year.
Also, they accept admissions in nursery and class 1. For admissions in other classes it would depend on vacancies that arise if someone drops out/leaves. Please call the school on the number in their website to know more. They are very responsive and you will get firsthand information about admissions.

Thanks!
