Hi Sanj,

Is your chaild in CBSE, ICSE or Board? What is his/her interest? Does she/he wants to do regular Engineering or Medicine etc. or courses like Law, Journalism etc.

Choosing Inter or XI, XII completely depends on the childs interest on further studies. So discuss this with the child first then choose the best place for the course.

My daughter is also in X now and she is doing it under CBSE (KV Gachibowli). She wants to do MA, LLB so she said she will take XI, XII.

All the best.

Savitri

There seems to be a dirth of good schools offering XI n XII in Hyderabad. The general trend is that all kids go for Inter along with coaching for medicine n engineering. What do kids ,who don't want to go for either of these courses ,do?Why have CBSE n ICSE schools done away with +2 in their schools?I too am in a dillema cos my son has completed X CBSE n we dont know where to go, if we dont want to go to Jr.colleges,as they are known here!

savitri 2009-05-28 10:45:14

Hi,

If your son is not interested in eng or med etc. He can go for +1 and +2. Best Jr. College with CBSE +1 and +2 is Obulreddy Jr. College. This is located in Jubilee Hills. They have different subjects to choose from. Courses like Fashion Designing, Economics etc. The teachers there are experienced.

http://www.amsporps.com

For ICSE +1 Hyderabad Public School is there. But kids there are very high fligh types. So you need to be very careful. As this is the age when they try to learn too many things.

Hi savitri,

Thanks for your reply. My daughter is still not able to make a decision as to which stream to go into maths or science.Since she likes both she is confused. That is the problem.Does studying +1, +2 help at all for Eamcet?

Sanj

savitri 2009-06-01 15:36:05

It helps in Sciences. But for Maths they need to work Hard. +1, +2 have less sylobus in Maths compared to State. But +1 and +2 help them think in a logical way. So they can understand the issue and try to solve it rather than mug up.

As +1, +2 students dont like mugging the subject, they take more time to resolve individual problems. So coaching helps them in resolving this issue. If you are very keen on EAMCET then don't send them to the EAMCET coaching given by the +1, +2 colleges. They have not mastered this art.

Corporate colleges like Chaitanya etc. mastered this art. But before sending your chaild to these colleges, prepare her fully that she will not get any time to enjoy for two years. If you want to achieve, you need to sacrifice some thing. That is the philosophy of these colleges. :-) So explain this to her and let her choose.

I think it would be advisable for u to send your kids to XI in CBSE offered by Centra School or kendriya Vidyalaya's.  These are non commercial and no-profit organisations. Exposure overall to all fields is good. Hope this helps u.

Hi Savitr,

I'm looking at KV Gachibowli for my daughter for Class IX. Any feedback you can give me would be great.

savitri 2010-03-11 09:47:51

Hi,

It is very good school. Which school has she studied till now? If she studied in private schools like okridge, chirec etc. she will not get that type of pampering here.

KV is like our old ZPH schools. Teachers are experienced but not sophisticated. They dont think of each individual students needs. They have their own way of teaching and they follow that. They dont follow the new trend of understanding the child and explain the concepts to children in childs way.

Kids will not learn all these new fashions and teachers dont encourage those. Principal is very strict and straigt forward person.

If you are planning to join her now, they have already sold the application forms. So it is better to go and find out whether apps are available or not.

Second language (Hindi, Sanskrit) both are tough if your daughter comes from Icse. Otherwise all other subjects are fine. My daughter took Sanskrit (She was in ICSE till 8th) and I got an excelent tutor. Now she picked up well.

Where do you stay? My suggestion will be go for it. They will crib for some days because of friends etc. But afterwords they love the school.

Hi Jinx !

I think you got a very good feedback/answer about  KV Gachibowli from Savitri.

I couldn't give my opinion as I didn't know about this school. So if u r interested , u need to go immly.

Hi Sanj and Gee,

Where are your children studying now ? Are they pursuing  +1 ,+2 in CBSE or State board ? I may also have to decide for my daughter.

Rgds,

Mickey

savitri 2010-03-11 13:07:13

Where is your daughter studying and mickey and in which class?

mickey 2010-03-11 13:26:58

Hi Savitri !

My daughter is currently studying in class 9 in Chinmaya Vidyalaya ,Begumpet.

There is one more year or her to decide about her stream. I don't want to push her into anything right now.

I have read and liked  many of your reviews in various discussions . So i think  ,u will be able to guide and suggest me  whether to go for CBSE or state syllabus after  X.  As such my daughter is interested in Science as well as Maths. But she is more inclined to MPC and also goes to FIITJEE. Its better to decide after X ,i guess. But meanwhile ,I want to find out the appropriate board for class XI and XII and also the junior colleges  for her +1 and +2.

Which Board ,do  u think is better for preparing for IIT ,AIEEE, BITSAT  and SAT ?

Rgds,

Mickey

savitri 2010-03-11 14:43:31

Hi Mickey,

As she is going to FIIt JEE, let her continue in that. Her aim is for IIT etc. and FIIT JEE is good at that. Generally these people (FIIT JEE and Ramaiah etc.) have tie up with some IP bord colleges and they make sure that kids get attendence even if they dont go regularly.

Dont join her any of the corporate colleges like Chaitanya, Narayana etc. if she is going to continue in FIIT JEE after 10th, because both will give lot of pressure and kids cannot take that.

If you dont want to continue in FIIT JEE, then the option I can suggest is PAGE with a nice CBSE college like Obulreddy or Chinamaya. PAGE (Ameerpet) has very good faculty. Kids will not get pressurised because normal college gets over at 2.45 and PAGE has its classes either in the morning or in the evening only for 2 hours.

If she wants to write EAMCET then PAGE is not at all good option. Because the pattern for EAMCET is completely different from the pattern of the above mentioned exams and PAGE never teaches in that way.

So my suggestion is FIIT JEE with normal intermediate Board college. Or Chinmaya/Obulreddy with PAGE. As you said you can decide this after 10th.

savitri

Hi Savitri,

Thank you for your quick response. Even i too was thinking about FIITJEE after X. But being in FIITJEE means , lot of self study . In IX , I found that they teach only the lessons , give some concepts and have left many excercises at the end of their course material for the children to do without any discussion or inputs from them. There is no follow up about the assignments / practice papers etc.

Of course they are ready to clear the students doubts by prior appointment. They discuss answers of only CPPs(chapter pratice papers).I may have to bring to the notice of the management.

May I know ,where are ur children studying now ?

Rgds,

Mickey.

My son is in Engineering second year (MGIT, Metallurgy). Daughter is in KV Gachibowly 10th. She wants to continue there for +1 and +2. She doesnt want to study either engineering or MBBS. her choice is either LAW or Wild animal care. She is not sure about where she can go for the second option. But she is sure that she needs Bi.P.C for that. :-)

I need to do some research about this. Where do you stay?

mickey 2010-03-11 18:47:25

Hi Savitri,

Thank you Savitri. Nice to know your daughter's options. I will also find out. You will surley find Wild Animal Studies in foreign universities. Its better she prepares for SAT very well  and appear for it after her XII. Its better to take coaching for the same to get good scores.

For that she needs to take science in XI and XII as SAT comprises of English and Science.I too have to find out the details about SAT. Under graduate programmes will be very good and an easy route to post graduation in US for higher studies.

How is your daughter writing her board exams ? Are the papers easy this year ?Mr Kapil Sibal wants to reduce the stress on children and is introducing many new reforms. The first one being the grading system ,second one is the optional board exam system and thrid is the continuous comprehensive evaluation(CCE) .I dont think your daughter's batch will have grading system. It will be implemented from this academic year. This year for class IX ,papers are coming from CBSE  Board. Surprisingly, many schools are having the same papers and these are being circulated among students as exams are being conducted on different dates for all the schools..If you have time please go through my  blog

http://www.parentree.in/mickey/journal-3185/Same-Question-Paper-for-class-IX-for-many-CBSE-schools.html

What can we do ??

By the way i stay at Somajiguda.

Mickey.

Hi,

Undergraduate programs in US are good but very expensive. It costs about $40,000-$50,000 per annum. We have enquired about UG programs in US and thought it doesn't make sense to spend that amount when we can get quality education here.

Sanj

mickey 2010-03-22 18:46:57

Hi Sanj,

Is UG more expensive than Masters in US even if the child gets a scholarship ?

Are Prestigious and Govt recognized  National and State awards taken into consideration while awarding admissions to the students  into elite Univs in US ?

In which grade is ur child studying ? I would be glad if could furnish me more details regarding SAT and UG programmes in US and its feasibility with the scholarship option.

Rgds ,

Mickey

Hi,

Yes, UG is more expensive than MS in US. With a very good SAT score one might get an aid for around $10000-$15000. May be the community colleges fees are a little less.My child is taking her class X exams now. We are thinking that instead of sending her for UG to US, we can send her to a best college here and later she can do her MS in US.Many of our friends are sending their children here for the UG especially for medicine.

Hi Gautam,

Nice to see a student of  class X here.  Yes, FIITJEE emphasizes a lot on self studies and u have to be self motivated.

I think, you have a special IIT batch in  class 11& 12 in Chinmaya. How is it ?
I have been told sometime back that  6 of them from that batch got into IITs last year.

I think, if u r serious about IIT, try Narayana's NRI academy   or Narayana Institutions. Narayana has given top rankers  this year. Many students from Narayana could crack IIT this year.

Cheers,
Mickey

dms 2010-12-13 16:26:48

hi mickey,

yes iwas also thinking about narayana and chaitanya..but people often tell that students mug up in these institutions..is it true??

yes there is a proiit batch in chinmaya vidyalaya..but the teachers here are not that good..

and what do you think is the base for iit??intermediate or cbse 11 and 12th???

mickey 2010-12-13 17:29:06

Hi Gautam,
Students from AP continued their golden run bagging more than 10 per cent of the IIT seats this year too inspite of change in IIT-JEE format.  AP students fare very well in IIT-JEE.  This year they achieved  stupendous success. Of the top 10 ranks, 7 were bagged by AP students.  With 9,059 seats available in 15 IITs nationwide, AP students will get 22%, meaning every 4th student joining the IIT this year will be from AP.

The credit definitely goes to the hard work put up by the students coupled with well designed state syllabus and coaching too at these Corporate institutions which intergrates all the curriculums.

State Maths is excellent  compared to other Boards.
CBSE 11th and 12th  is good if you are aiming at AIEEE. It will help u score better.

Yes, I too heard that students mug up but not really sure. It depends on you.

To crack IIT, u need to have strong basics. You can study in any board but your conceptual and analytical approach/skills  are  tested in these exams.

FIIT JEE gives you an opportunity to explore and be on your own. If u r self motivated and are willing to clarify all your doubts , submit all your CPPs and do your assignments reguarly and get it checked, you can go for FIIT-JEE else opt for Narayana/ NRI academy / Sri Gayatri / Ramaiyya Insitute.

I would suggest you to take State syllabus as I am planning the same for my daughter too. You will not have to struggle much for Maths if u are in Intermediate.
Tell ur parents to visit these institutes personally and talk to the students.

It is better for you to concentrate on your  FA4 and SA2 and think about these institutes later (after Mar'11).  Write all the entrance exams of various institutes and later u can decide, which one to join.  I will be glad if u keep me updated too about Ramaiyya's and Narayan's entrance test.

All The Best,

Mickey

Hi,Savitri,

Youur research is quite helpful to many parents who are in afix about Intermediate vs xI cbse. Please suggest a best cbse XI school for my daughter. She would like to take Bio iNFORMATICS/bIO tECHNOLOGY   IN gRADUATION.fOR THIS SHE HAS TO TAKE BIOLOGY GROUP.AFTER A LOT OF SCRUTINY i FOUND cHINMAYA vIDYALAYA,mvm AND oBUL REDDY SCHOOL.hOW EVER,CHINMAYA HAS NO TRANSPORT FACILITY.i WONDER HOW MY DAUGHTER WILL GO GROM hI TECH CITY EVERY DAY TO bEGUMAPET.aLSO,oBUL rEDDY SCHOOL OFFERS ONLY MPC WITH BIOLOGY AS AN ELECTIVE ,NOT AS A MAIN SUBJECT.OR IT IS MANDATORY TO TAKE MBPC,WHICH BECOMES TOO MUCH OF A BURDEN.aLSO SUGGEST IF THE ABOVE SCHOOLS OFFER GOOD TRAINING FOR COMPETITIVE EXAMS,OR WE NEED TO ARRANGE FOR THEM OUTSIDE.SORRY FOR THE WRONG FORMAT.iAM IN A HURRY...RUSHING TO WORK.

savitri 2010-12-15 12:51:48

Hi Tipp,

It is not necessary to take BiPC to join in these courses. Please read the answers given in the below site.

http://onlineeamcet.com/websites.nrihosting.com/faqs-regarding-eamcetcounselling-and-courses.aspx

Based on that I suggest Obulreddy. She can take MPC with Bio-technology as an optional in Obulreddy.

Why I suggest Obulreddy

1. It is near to your house (Hi tech City)

2. She can take the optional subject Bio Technology even in inter.

3. It has transport facility

4. The lecturers are experienced and the atmosphere is good.

Both in Chinamaya and MVM, they give importance to devotional activities. I think in Inter it is too much for kids to participate in those. And if your daughter is not from that type of school, she may not like all that.

As far as I know Obul reddy has no option of training for competitive exams. But the beauty is she will be back to home by 3:30. She will have enough time to relax, do home work. She can join in any of the Coaching centers like "PAGE" and study for those eams. These centers have their classes from 6 PM.

Regards

Savitri

Hi Micky, Savitri and others

I have been reading you discussions coz I am in the dilemma you were in last year. My daughter is in 10th. wondering if onlyu FIITJEE is ok and no school life. In Tamil nadu where I come from all good schools have higher secondary. I am just confused because of this. What is this intermediate and plus two . Are there two exams in hyd. Where can I read about this. @Micky is your daughter going to FIITJEE. Please please clear my confusion

daughters 2011-07-30 16:47:31

In andhra pradesh state board 11 and 12 called Intermediate and in CBSE school +1 and  +2 they call nothing much difference.

FIITJEE is a coaching center for IIT aspirants thats all
