Thanks for taking your time in helping several people like me. Your suggestions are really helpful.
We are planning to move to Hyderabad next year from USA and looking for good schools for our kids - son (6 years old) and daughter ( 4 years old). I have been following various posts and suggestions by you and felt that international schools might be good choice during the initial transition. We are looking to pick the school first and then rent an apartment in a nearby gated community.
We have shortlisted the below schools:
Birla Open MindsCan you please advice which schools I should opt for and in which preference? I am okay with fees upto 2 L.
Have you toured any of these schools ? We will be moving too with 7.7 and 6 year old next year ? I have visited Rockwell and Chirec but looking for any first hand visit reviews for other schools.
No, we haven't been able to visit any of the schools personally. Ours is not a planned move. We will probably have my Brother-in-Law visit these schools.
How did you like the schools you visited?
If you don't mind sharing, where are you moving from? I'm moving from Columbia, South Carolina.
@kumar2016 - We are also moving from USA next year and looking for schools. My kids will be 9 and 5 next year. Few schools you listed are in my list too. We are not able to get much information through phone. My sister will visit some schools this month and my husband is planning to go during thanks giving to visit and for admissions. Will post more details some time in October once we gather the information.
@kumar2016 - JUST FYI- I saw negative google reviews for Birla Open Minds
Yeah, I saw that as well. Not sure how the reviews can vary that significantly, unless people are venting out their frustrations because of some minor incident.
I saw quite a few good reviews on Green Gables, most of them appeared to be from genuine parents, but couple of them make me suspicious, sounded like marketing people:)
Did you visit the Rockwell Gachibowli campus or Kokapet? What was your impression of Rockwell and Chirec international?
One of my friend (actually friends friend) admitted their kids to Chirec school this year. He was saying that the kids are happy with the school, but the only concern was that going to school on Saturday. I think his kid was in 6th grade. He said he had to pay 3 L for the 1st year. (2L + 1L for admission).
I visited Rockwell Jubilee Hills Campus and Chirec Kondaour.
Rockwell -I got a detailed tour and the lady patiently answered all our questions. They will most likely move to permanent campus Kokapet starting next year. Have French/SPanish as additional 2nd Language options
Chirec- I was told to be on a lookout for Admission form online end of Oct-1st week of Nov as admissions are open for a little while based on vacancy and the Ayamma took me to show just the grounds.they didn't show the classrooms or any facilities inside. Also cannot pick the location and they allot based on vacancy given that they have 3 locations. They said they can't guarante seat for both kids at the same location either .
Here's my email: email@example.com
@kumar - True for parent reviews.
I didn't get a chance to visit any schools. I called them in August and most of them asked me to call in October to schedule a visit and they can provide more information when we meet in-person than over phone. I will definitely share more information in October.
Oakridge and Chirec is not in my list as the fees is too high and not ready to spend so much for schooling :)
All the schools which you have listed are good. As your kids are in lower grades, they wouldn't find it difficult to cope up with CBSE schools like DPS.
You could prefer schools in the following order. This is based on the inputs from
many parents over the years. But it could vary too depending
on parents' preferences....
Chirec & Oakridge ( if the fee suits you.. Pls fill their enquiry form in the website. You could also write to them to know their fee structure)
Birla Open Minds( Though good, this school is very far. It is in Kollur. I am not sure if there are any good residential areas near by)
Green Gables ( small and good school with individual attention on kids) followed by Rockwell and Phoenix Greens.
Gaudium too could be preferred.
You could have a look at these schools when you are here and decide. Try not to block any seat.
@Mickey, Glad to see your response. Thank You so much.
@Mickey, Thanks for your response. Your advice is highly valued.
Not sure, if I can ask for this favor or not, do you know any parents whose kids go to these schools? I can certainly understand if you are not able to do so. But,if it's okay with you and if the parents are willing to talk as well, I can send you a PM if you prefer to not post their details on the forum.
I know couple of them whose kids are in Chirec and Rockwell.
Also, I heard that Green Gables only has 1:10 teacher-student ratio. Are there any CONS to having such a low ratio -- not enough competition? Probably, not much of an issue in the lower grades. What's your opinion on that?
Yeah, I have also ruled out Oakridge for the same reason, but have been hearing different fee structure for Chirec from different people, but that appears to be on the high end too. I have kept it as last option, just in case, if I am not able to finalize any other schools in my list which focus on both Academic/ExtraCurricular activities.
I had the same concern for Green Gables. 1:10 ratio sounded different. It will be good if any parent from that school can share their experience with the small ratio.
Dear Parents, Do you have any feed back on Meridian school? Kukatpally or Madhapur? I saw mixed reviews from several forums. Appreciate your help. Thank you.
Green Gables 1:10 ratio is for pre primary and for primary starting K or 1st it's 1:25.
Thanks for clarifying that.
@srid27 and @sree0829,
What other schools were you considering? I'm also seeing good reviews on Gaudium school, are you guys considering that?
Not sure when the kollur campus will be ready or whether it is too far.
Where are you guys currently based on and when are you planning to move to Hyderabad?
I have no idea about Guadium fee structure but these it will be on par or even higher than Chirec's given their list of facilities. My list is Chirec, Rockwell mainly due to location and Rockwell , Gaudium. Plan to move by next school year.
If any of you can visit these schools, I would love to hear your experience.
@kumar, we are from Maryland. Planning to move some time in May next year. Our close friends are also moving to Kukatpally next year and they are Opting for Meridian Kukatplally, as its close for their house and they heard positive reviews from existing parents.
I am considering below schools to visit.
Meridian- Madhapur, Kukatpally
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan-Jubilee hills
CGR , Madhapur,
Arbor International -Kondapur
I Know parents from Sentia, Meridian, DPS and they didn't had bad experience past few years. Most of the parents said, it depends on parents too how much they are focusing on the kids. one negative common review from parents including my sister is, lot of kids from these international schools are coming from very rich families and most of the kids are having attitude problems in higher classes.
That's another reason I am hesitating to consider Chirec, Oakridge, etc. I am not sure how true it is, but I heard this issue particularly for Silver Oaks , Oakridge, Chirec and DPS.
Hope it helps. We will try to keep in touch.

I heard the same as well. Kids getting used to too much comfort and not mingling with other kids. And more importantly peer pressure:) Obviously, we can't afford all those luxuries that the rich family kids are used to:)
I am also originally from Fairfax, Virginia, but currently in Columbia, SC. We are still in the process of getting Citizenship and then plan to move some time around April-May of next year.
School year won't finish until early June over here, right? Do we need to provide some sort of school completion certificate in order to enroll kids into these International schools. We also probably need to give kids some time to adjust and then enroll in the school. It might be too much for them to attend the school here until June 1st week and then go back to India and then start the schooling for the next academic year immediately.

Thanks guys for sharing all the information. It is quite useful.
I am looking for school admission to join my son for Grade 1 (2017).
I am planning to visit Manthan, Arbor, Gaudium & Green Gables.
Chirec & Oakridge looks to be very expensive, so i am giving them least priority.
If we do decide to send the kids to Gaudium school (Kollur), any idea about the nearest good residential gated communities nearby - preferably within 15 minutes drive? That would also probably play a factor in deciding the school.
Or even Phoenix Greens or Rockwell in Kokapet, what are the nearest good residential gated communities?
@chsp Thank you for your post. Are you moving from USA too? Please do kindly share your experience when you visit them. I will share the information too.
@kumar , Thank you for sharing more information about you. I am not sure about school completion certificate. I have that question in my list and will find out when we visit and deciding on schools.
Regarding gated communities, I know only in kukatpally , madhapur area. One of our Sr Director moved to Gachibowli recently from here. I requested my colleague to find the gated community and school he joined his kids. Will share the information as I get.
I think low ratio(1:10) in lower grades isn't a matter of concern. In higher grades as Srid27 has said, it is 1:25 in Green Gables which should be fine. Presently I do not know any parent personally from GG or Gaudium. You could check with Vivek in Gaudium thread.
My neighbour's daughter used to study in Rockwell and she was quite happy and satisfied. I have to check with her now as she has shifted. If her daughter is still continuing, I will PM you her details.
I do agree with 'attitude probs'of the kids from Intl schools however it can't be generalised because it depends on Parents' upbringing and the time they devote to kids.
My neighbour's son was a very bright child and was studying in a State Board School until he joined an Intl School where he fell into bad company and unfortunately parents couldn't keep a tab on him. He couldn't secure a good or even a decent rank in any of the entrance tests which he was very much capable of getting. On the contrary, there are kids from these schools who are well behaved, down to earth and serious about their studies.
BVB's class strength is too high. May be you could try once kids are settled and hv a smooth transition in a stress - free school.
@Mickey, Thank you so much for your valuable feed back. I totally agree with you regarding the attitude problems and parents time towards kids. I have 2 boys and with what I saw earlier in my family and friends, sometimes its really tough with boys to distract and put them in the right path when they get influenced wrongly. I was worried to pick some schools because of that. Again, not all rich kids and rich families have bad attitudes too. We see all kinds of kids in other regular schools too.
I will definitely consider this before eliminating the schools. Yes I heard BVB strength is around 40. That was last in my list but wanted to visit as I heard lot of good things about this school.
Thank you again for your response Mickey !!
