My son asks lot of questions-one question for which I don't have a reply is,"Why do we pronounce sugar as  'shugar' when it has no 'H'  in it ?

Most recent:

We usually go to a place called Sci works every 2 weeeks. It has a planetarium, a barn (with farm animals), an indoor amphibian/ bird area, some other science displays etc. plus an area for toddlers. Ever since he has turned two we've been trying to introduce him to the planetarium not just to build his knowledge of the stars but also to get him to sit still in a dark theater.

The other day the moment I stepped out of the car with my son, he turns around and tells me 'mama, i no see stars...only animals'. It took me a little while to interpret him and found it rather amusing. What he meant was that he did not want to go to the planetarium and would rather be amused by other things inside.

It is very difficult for me to make my 3 yr. old son sleep at night. He becomes very active & playful during nighttime. So I usually take him to window and show him the darkness and say," See, its dark outside! As its nighttime, u should go to sleep now". I tell him Sun has slept, your favourite cats, dogs & birds have slept, your big brother has slept, Nana-nani (Maternal grandfather & mother)must have slept by now and the list goes on & on...........

I would like to share a recent incident. We went to planetorium. He was sitting in my lap. As the show started, lights were switched off & stars appeared in the dome of the theatre. My son pointed to the dome & said, , "Raat ho gayi" (Hey mummy, its nighttime) & slept immediately and peacefully without any efforts to do so !!!  Friends let me tell you that this event occured at 3 :30 PM in the afternoon.

Note: We were there at the planetorium & science centre since morning so he was already tired-Its a different matter altogether !!)

After the funny incident about my younger 3 yr. old son, I would like to share an incident about my elder one (who is now 7.5 but at the time of this incident, he was around  just 2 yrs. old)

Since ours is a nuclear family, whenever my husband went to office, I used to be at home with my elder one only. Whenever I go to have a bath, my son used to stand outside the bathroom and knock the door continuosly thinking I left him alone at home & went somewhere. Once after I finished my bath and tried to open the door, my son had locked it from outside. I told him to open the door but he was unable to open the same & was strugling & trying hard to do so. He was crying loudly outside & I was shouting from inside giving him instructions how to open the door. Then ultimately I called out neighbour aunt, standing near window & she came to our home and the matter got resolved.

After this incident, I used to avoid bath when he was awake. 3 great lessons that I learnt from the experience !!! - 1) I used to make him sleep first and then go to bath or 2) I was going to bath only when my maid used to come for other household job 3) I was taking my mobile with me in the bathroom so that I can call my neighbour & they can open the main door (a set of keys is with them always) as well as the bathroom door even if I get stuck.

Last christmas my DS had written a note for santa asking for a specific hot wheel track set that comes with some dinosaurs (every year he writes or used to ask us to write to santa). When we went for shopping, I came across that set and saw that it was pricy. I asked him “is this what you asked from santa. It’s very expensive.”  When the whole aisle was quiet, he said “Mama, Santa is anyway going to get this for me. Why do you worry? See.......... I saved you a lot of money!!!.” I could see many peeking from other aisle to see who that most considerate devil is…

When my son was a baby, for quite some time I had been suggesting DH to not use the word ' no' , instead divert his attention.  I had to explain to him that it would show up somewhere with the lil one and positive reinforcement was the way to go.

Now, simultaneosuly we had been trying to get my son to start calling DH Dada (Daddy)  but to no avail . I could feel DH's anxiousness. He was around 13mths old when one day I asked my son" who is this, A? ". A lifts his index finger (pointer) moves shaking it sideways says 'na, na, na'. I couldn't help myself and burst out laughing while my husband turned red in embarassment.

TG: I can relate to both your posts above. On the first one, I used the planetarium as a place to get him to nap as a baby (nap times were always a struggle). For the second one: I got locked outside just a day before the India trip. Fortunately I had my cell phone with me and called DH who came over and unbolted the door!

hahahah, all the experience are so cute....just yesterday my son said.....Tinkan Tinkan lil star....so many incidences like....he calls laptop Nanga Nanga... he has not started talking like otherr babies but he talks in his baby language which is so cute...........

roses 2011-03-05 19:29:07

Sugarmommy- that is so...cute, both 'tinkan' and 'nanga' !

My son knew 3 words when he just about started talking...'mama', 'dudu' and....'ticklum'. 'Ticklum' was for 'tickle' whick someone taught him and because it was fun he would lift my t-shirt from the back and either tickle or blow on my back and say 'ticklum'. With little fingers (or mouth) it would actually tickle!

Recently when he learnt the word 'godi' for a few days he called it 'gupti'. It sounded so cute that I did not correct him and enjoyed it for the days that I could.

When my son was around  1-1/2 years, to make him eat good stuff, we used to tell him that if he ate that he would grow strong.

Once, when we were not noticing, he caught hold of a big potato wafers pack and has started eating from that.  We suddenly entered the room in which he was sitting and eating.  On noticing us entering the room, my son, with hand and mouthful of potato chips asked "Amma, potato chips nerayyyya sapta, edhukku enakku nerayyyya strength varum?" (why I will get 'more' strength, if I eat more potato chips?)

Tell me the synonyms for vegetarian & Non-vegitarian people :

According to my elder son (7 yrs old), they are

..

..

..

..

..

Herbivorous

& Omnivorous (non-vegetarians also eat vegetables so not Carnivorous animals !!!

This is true but we elders can't think of it immediately, I suppose.

I couldn't stop myself from sharing it right away.

We had just wrapped up our lunch this afternoon and I was clearing up the dining table. Suddenly I noticed my son, who was standing on a chair at the dining table, take one of the table mats and make a scroll out of it. I quickly reached and took the table mat from his hand and started to straighten it out. I mumbled aloud, " it is crushed... it is crushed.... these crease line will not go away.... maybe I will have to try a light iron". My husband tried to assure me and I was so engrossed with the table mat that initially I did not notice what my son was saying at the other end of the table.

He so well knew that in a scenario like this it would be his father who would come to his rescue. With his arms stretched out, palm upwards, still standing on the chair, the 2yr 4months old was saying: "How's that possible, Daddy....but how's that possible, Daddy?". He sounded so very much like his father....the choice of words and the tone in which he said it...It was so funny! He was all out to get his father's support (plus saying that how could the mat get crushed..).

For the mother's day, my little one was asked to write a biography of his mom (me) in his school. All the children were given a standard template to fill in their answer. My little one had written "My mom is 156 cm tall and weighs 153 kg and she is 85 yrs old. But she still looks great!!..". When the biography was sent home, i asked him "do i look very old and fat.. why did you wirte 85 yrs old?" for which he answered with a surprised look "Are you not? I thought you were born a long time back "

I  went to  Tirupaty with my fmly during recent hoildays..we reached tripaty at 11:30 morning. and boarded bus to tirumala.the bus reached the foot of hills (alipiri) and entered the gaht road..some north indians shout aloud  "Venkatramana govindaa..".

I thought to bring up a spritual mood for my son  from the bus itself, and asked him to chant the nammas "om namo venkatesaaya",, "om namo narayanaaya" continously...so that we will get the blessing of god..

for that he replied   "Dad .....first let us go to the room ,brush our teeth and take bath...afterwards we can pray to god...

HI all,

I wanted to share this last week...... As always I was giving bath to my son last Wednesday and suddenly he declared when the water came splashing on him:

" Amma I am bathing like Tamanna". ( Na Thamanna mari kulikaren!!!!!??). I got awe struck at the observation and also got warned about the impact media is having on today's children:(.

One more......may be he observed this on his way to school in the van. This weekend, my mom arranged all the cars of Adith and did pretend play like a Traffic police. She said, Mister, why you parked your vehicle this way?, you need to pay a fine. Immediately, my son salutes my mom saying, Sorry sir!!!!!!

:))))))

hey all, wanted suggestion ..from u all ..

My kid is 3 yrs old..most of the times when we travel or when we both go to a shop or anywhere  we keep talking abt anything and everything ...he always asks questions .at times i really donno wat to answer..few days back... he saw a cow  eating grass..

Q kid  : why cow is eating?

A  : becoz cow is hungry

Q : I asked IF u r hungry wat u will do ?

A (Kid) I will eat ..

Q  (kid): Why cow is hungry...

A : i said he would played and worked hard for the day like ...tats y he is hungry

Q kid: why  did he played and worked...

and the conversation goes on... on the other day i showed him a transformer (on the road) and said from this we get current /power to respective houses ..thats it strange questions were  after that..since few things i myself donno i said i donno i will ask his dad  and let himknow.

But at times im confused to give the  appropiate answer... but most of his questions are for every answer he takes one question..and goes on...

how to encourage and at the same time ..cope up questions they shoot in such a way the answers doesnt make them complicate in understanding abt the subject .. ...need ur suggestions ...

thanks.

We were watching a movie in which the characater was feeling lonely and he didn't have parents. My DS said " I won't feel lonely after you die. I will have my wife for company"..

Another incident: My DS had questions about life after death. Then suddenly he said "Thatha's (granddad's) dad will be a zombie or a ghost now. Won't he?"..

this happened when my kids were 2 yrs old ... twins...

we were going to my moms house by train.. my kids love train journey.. we were offered lower side berth and they were excited on seeing the switches there (for light & fan).. Inspite of yelling several times not to play with the switch, they didnt pay any attention and I gave up finally.

When the train is about to halt my elder one started to cry and said Amma, kishu (my younger one) switched off the train.

Needless to say, we all burst into laughter
