Dear All,

Can you advice about the ISHA HOme school. What about the children future? I understood from some article that after their school which is after 10th or 12th standard they wont prefer to come with parents. is it true?

PADMA96 2015-04-08 18:24:59

Hi  Romin, INdu1 & dipschool,
At Isha Home School, they do not give admissions in 9th grade. The entry levels are 1st, 5th, 8th and 11th. My daughter has given exam for 12th this year. My second daughter will be in 8th grade. Both are  studying in Isha home school.. I have been very happy with the school. It is one of its kind. Regarding career after schooling, all I can say is he will definitely have a  happy life and good career.
Fee structure is about 2.5 to 3 lakhs depending upon the grade.

PADMA96 2015-05-08 14:54:57

Hi Indu,
Right now the school is affiliated to to ICSE & ISC board. From September they will get affiliated to IGCSCE .
As far as I have observed, at junior school level their entire attention is to rouse the curiosity and enhance the perception and the interest of a child. So though there is a rigorous learning happening, marks take a back seat. The evaluation is done on based on certain specific objectives. For example Math at Junior level may include accuracy, speed, analysis, procedure at mental and also at pen and paper work. So is it with other subjects.
One more thing that is to be kept in mind is they have vertical classroom which has children of different age groups. A child is evaluated based on his age and class level.
The children of Junior and middle school ( i.e up to 7th grade) live in houses. They are with the houseparents who take care of them as well as teach them. For activities like art craft , music, dance etc the teacher either comes home or the child goes to the teacher. Their academic routine is very flexible routine and the child is not at all pressurized  into doing anything beyond his capabilities.
From 8th grade on wards they go to school which called Gyanashala which has  smart classrooms & has all the facilities which a school should have. The faculty is from all around the world A far as I have gathered there is a great emphasis on music and sports.
At all level there are lot of workshops and interactions with the people coming from all walks of lives from all over the world to enhance the learning experience of the child.

Regarding experience of my daughters, my older one was insistent that I send my younger one to the school. She always feels had she studied in the conventional school she might have got excellent marks but without any learning experience and exposure. There is a huge shift in her thinking which I can clearly see from the books she reads to the kind of TV programmes she watches, the kind music she listens and also her responses to the social issues.
In short she is very proud hand happy that she studied in  IHS.
If you  want you can visit their blog to get a clearer idea. Follow the link.

Another thought to add, where do the alumni from this school go to or have gone? That will give a good indication of where your child is most likely going to end up.

Namaskaram Sarvanan,
Absolutely nothing to worry about the interview. The interview is very simple. They just see if child can adjust to the environs of the school. But you have to keep in mind that many a times they declaration of the results is very much delayed and it can cause an undue anxiety to you. It would be advisable for you to continue your child in the present school till the results are known. Do not apply for T.C.
Since you are planning to put your child at such a young age, I just want to inform you that the child is not allowed to call anyone including parents. He/she can write as many letters as he wants.  If  you want to know something about your child initially the school responds promptly but as the days go by it takes its own sweet little time. Sometimes they don't get back.

However, as one of my children had joined the middle school and the other the senior school, your experience may differ.

Small correction Sarvanan Anna, I meant do not apply for TC till u get a confirmation mail. Pranam

Namaskaram Padma Akka,

Thanks for your reply.I will keep my hopes alive.
Yes, I also confused whether to put him from 1st std or in future in middle school. In my home I'm the only one wishing him to join from 1st std where as my wife and my parents are worried about him but agreed that this school will be best for him.By looking at the school website I'm very much impressed.Could you share whether you or your daughter identified any goodness from IHS junior children(who all are joined with her for middle school) while joining middle school please?.

Namaskaram Sarvanan
Anna, both my children always gave a very positive feed back about the junior school. I too have seen  that most of them enjoy a lot are generally very happy to be there. With the little interaction that I had with few of the parents, all I gathered is the first term in the first year is a testing time for both the parents ( specially for mothers) and children. Later the children become so fond of the school that they hate the very idea of going to a different school.

Namaskaram Padma Akka,

Thanks for your positive feedback.
I will update once I apply for admission.

Thanks Padma madam and Mr. Saravanan for the queries and clarifications.
I too plan to look for the admission for my daughter becoming 6 years by Oct-2015.

Padma madam,
They were allowed to write letters by hand only? No other means of communication is allowed? and we cannot go and visit them in between?
If there is no calls allowed, will it be difficult for the children at such a younger age.
Please clarify..

PADMA96 2015-08-18 17:34:35

Namaskaram prasantarks Yes Anna, they are not allowed to call on phone.Every term you can visit them for 2 days. On 3rd day parent visit ends after breakfast / assembly. Regarding adjustment it depends on the child. Generally children seem to adjust well after 1st term. Pranam

Indu1 2015-08-19 21:37:57

Hi Padma
i just have a clarification.no phone calls means v can't talk for whole term?N there is no visitor days? Kids won't cum for feativals too ?n thxs for ur reply

PADMA96 2015-08-20 05:55:10

Yes Indu, we are not allowed to talk to children at all during the whole academic year. Children dont come home for festivals. Parents are allowed to visit their wards once in a term for two days. However, the winter vacation( 40 to 45 days) & summer vacation (60 to 65 days) children go home. So during the whole academic year children spend approx. 3 & 1/2 months at home.

Indu1 2015-08-20 10:29:14

Couldn imagine without talking to our kids. I lost little hopes to put in IHS. Anyways thxs Padma

PADMA96 2015-08-20 12:31:05

I m sorry to disappoint you Indu. How old r ur kids? If ur child goes to senior school ( 8th grd upwards) he/she is allowed to send an email twice a week. Junior & middle school kids may write any number of letters.

Indu1 2015-08-20 13:45:17

My daughter is 8 yrs old n my son is 6 yrs. u have given a clear idea.we should think n decide.

prasantarks 2015-08-20 13:46:14

Thanks Padma madam, for your time and responses...

Even I am little bit disappointed regarding this policy in IHS, where I am thinking it will be difficult for junior children, without communication, though they may be used to it after some time.
I may postpone my plans for the child for middle school.
Thanks once again...

Namaskaram Padma Akka,
I have applied for 1st standard for my son by 2nd wk of November 2015.
They given us reference number but we are not called for any interview yet.
I mailed them, they said my application is under review.
Is it like they close admission with reference only?
Pranam,
R.Saravanan

PADMA96 2016-01-08 13:16:45

Namaskaram Anna, Nothing to worry about the interview.Specially if it is for 1st grade. The child will be taken around the school ,with out you & allowed to mingle with other children. His responses & reactions would be observed Later sometime in the evening on the same day, you along with the child will be called for an informal chat. I think they only try to gauge if the child can adjust to the new environs out of his mothers lap & also if you can accept his absence in your life. Nothing academic as such. So do not bother about preparing your child for the interview. Nothing to worry about. Best of luck Pranams

PADMA96 2016-01-08 13:29:09

Sarnvanan Anna,, as I had mentioned earlier this one thing is extremely irritating about the school. They take their own sweet little time as far as these kind of communication is concerned. However, I have noticed interviews till February. So you will have to wait.
