please let me know the sishya school fees structure and the procedure to admit

saravanab 2009-09-24 11:57:32

thomas - thank you for your reply in the post http://www.parentree.in/groupdiscussion-860/Info-about-ICSE-schools-in-Chennai---Sishya--The-School--Hari-Shree-Vidyalayam--The-Ashram.html.

This query may be off the topic, but related to Sishya school only.

How about the attitude of students & parents there ?

Meaning whether only the rich & super rich kids study. This school may not be a mix of all classes of students.

If you have any idea, kindly through some light on this.

I don't have any first hand information about the school - had no chance to interact with a student/parent of a student from Sishya School.

Thank you, once again.

I have the same questions as Saravanab has. My kid is 1 month old now and I want to know if its too late to get my seat reserved in Shishya.

1. what will be fees structure in Shishya?

2. Is it a place for only the super rich kids?

3. Will they admit only if we are nearby the school (around Adyar)?

KaveriB 2011-10-11 13:38:07

I am an old student of Sishya, and an ex-part time teacher there, as well as currently a parent of Sishya.

So feel free to ask me any questions that you may have about the school.

Every batch has a mix of super rich to very ordinary family's kids. The fees are lower than Abacus or navadisha or Vidya Mandir.

The teachers and HM and Principal are very approachable and friendly and my kids feel very comfortable going to them if they have any problem with anything.

No religious or social differences are shown, and when I studied there, i didn't even know what religious or social background any of my classmates came from. Each person was taken on their own worth.

Every batch in every school will have a few bad eggs, but if the child has a strong support from the family, they will learn to pick their friends wisely. that is true for all schools, I think.

Anything else?

Kaveri,

Very useful Info...Thanks a lot...I too registered for admission for my kid....Only thing i'm thinking about is to choose between CBSE or ICSE....Lot of people saying that ICSE is tougher than CBSE....That is the only concern i have...What is your opinion about this?

 Dear Murugavel,

ICSE is tougher in the sense that kids are expected to think and answer questions and learn topic/knowledge based rather than text book based.... But in the long run, that is what is more useful in life. Each ICSE school follows a different text book, as there is no set text book for teh syllabus. Students are expected to learn concepts and info. So it is very tough for kids who need to "mug and spit". But it is ideal for kids who have curious and inquisitive minds. The top colleges give more weight to those who come from ISC schools as compared to State Board or Matric or even CBSE, for this very reason. Ultimately the people who are successful in their chosen fields are those who understand things and apply it correctly, rather than those who get top marks in school and college and then burn out by the time they are 25!

Dear Rads,

Sishya is not an expensive school as I have replied to another discussion on that in this forum. Yes, many rich kids go there, but so do very ordinary middle class kids. I find it to be a nice mix of varied social and economic types.

Admissions for Adayar campus, the trustees will meet anyone who comes on a Wednesday to the school on a first come first served basis. No references or name dropping will help. However they are very strict about numbers in each class and will not take even one student more than the maximum number. LKG admissions get filled ridiculously early... many people register their kids when they are still pregnant!!

Still you can put your kids name down, in case someone drops out or takes their kid to another school by the time the time for admission comes up. There are people who turn up every wednesday, even if the trustees have told them a date 6 months later to come and see them. That only irritates the trustees. Please don't do that. Trust them when they give you a date to come back on. Trust them when they say that they are full up for that class!

The only way to know if you like the place is to visit, and see for yourself!

Dear Kaveri,

Well said...Thanks for the explanation...what i understood is that kids will have good foundation if the learning is based on understanding concepts instead of studying...

Also, i got to know that focus is more on English language & that there are 2 papers in English language in ICSE schools. Is this true?

Regarding Sishya-OMR, does the school stick to the students-teacher ratio similar to Adyar -sishya? how about the infrastructure & other extra-curricular activities? this also similar to Adyar-sishya?....Kindly clarify...

Thanks in advance...

-Murugavel.

Hi Kaveri,

We are returning to India this year. My kids would go to 4th(or 5th as we have cut off dates problems)& 8th grade this coming school year. My daughter who completed 4th grade in US, will turn 10 on Dec 3rd, 2012. My son who completed 7th grade will turn 13 this june 30 2012. I am intered in putting them in Sishya. When we spoke to Sishya, they told us that their school year runs between jan-Dec. If I want to go with Sishya, will my kids loose 6 months of schooling? Also what grade they'll be eligible for. If i happen to put them in someother school say billabong, will they take us for 2013? If yes in what grade? Also, looks like their exams for 10th & 12th grade happens in march. How will they make this transition happen from 9th(where the final exam is in Dec..)? Pls. help.

Thanks,

V

Hello , my kid was born on feb 2013 and I got to register in sishya adyar wen he was 5 months old in august 2013. They told me that confirmed seats are over and gave me a chance receipt for 2017. Any one who have joined thier kids in sishya recently ? I heard that sishya omr is charging huge donations. Is it a same case with adyar branch also ? Wat is the current fee structure in adyar sishya? Any recommendations would help to get a seat ? Some insight would help... Tia!

psnagarajan 2014-04-14 16:41:25

to kanchushiva below are my feedback and its upto u take it or ignore it. on fees - I heard that its around 50k+ on admission - move your home very close to school, better less than a km and try to book slot at d earliest when admission starts if they ask u to wait until Feb or mar - for sure you won't get seat.

Kanchushiva 2014-04-15 13:17:01

Oh thank you psnagarajan. actually they already told me to check out other schools as well. They told us to contact them
during nov 2016. However like as u Said we should get in touch with them well before that because by 2016 June I should join my son in some school. I still have my fingers crossed because it is for 2017 (jan)admission.  Am surely not planning to join my kid if they charge lakhs and lakhs for donation. That is why I wanted to confirm about fees.  If they charge only 50k + I guess it is fine as long as they don't charge anything extra for donation.
