Am looking for feedback on Sharanalaya Montessori. Any parent here whose child is studying there?

UmaNaren 2009-08-25 22:26:50

Yes Uma, My kid studies there. How old is your kid? Admissions are open for the next term.

It's a very good Montessori School. It's my kid's second year there. It's been around for eight years!! The founder is a very impressive, honest, hardworking Montessorian.

Hi Uma(s)

I was also looking for the same information.

UmaNaren, my daughter will be 2.5 yrs by next June.

1) From what age do they take in the kids? Can I put her there starting next June

2) Is it a full fledged school till XII th or do we have to change school for I std?

3) How is the ambience and how good is the care given to the kids?

4) Are the teachers montessori trained?

Sorry to bombard you with so many questions but it would be very helpful if you could answer these questions.

Thanks in Advance

Lavanya

Uma Naren, Thanks for responding. Is your kid in the Nungambakkam branch or Pallikaranai branch? I would like to know about Pallikaranai branch specifically.

I also have similar qustions like Lavanya - am especially concerned about point no.4. The school my daughter attends now is also claims to be Montessori system but the teachers are not Mont. trained and the student - teacher ratio is also quite poor. Therefore, she doesn't get the attention/ guidance that she ought to be getting.

Further to Lavanya's point no 2: if they don't have till class XII, do they have a network of schools that regularly take students from them? For instance Kids from Navdisha, Kids Central etc apparently go to Sishya, KFI and the likes. So, is there a tie up or understanding with other school?

Looking forward to your resopnse - thanks.

Hi, I understand your anxiety!

1. Yes. But I would advise you to visit the School now and register your kid for the next year! Do call them up at 044-28175427 for an appointment. Also visit www.sharanalayaschool.com.

2.The Nungambakkam(Mahalingapuram) Montessori now admits 2yrs onwards. Which extends to Grade 4. The School does have plans to have an Elementary Montessori(6-12) in the future. Pallikaranai Public School is a full fledged CBSE School.

3.I have not visited the Public School campus at Pallikaranai. The Mahalingapuram Montessori is a very good Montessori. All kids are taken good care. You wont be disappointed!

4.Yes!! Teachers are Montessori Trained!

Cheers.

UmaNaren 2009-08-27 11:57:57

My kid is at the Mahalingapuram Sharanalaya. Which also happens to be the parent institution. The founder director is a dedicated, hardworking, passionate Montessorian. Meaning, She herslef is Montessori Trained.

All the Teachers are Montessori Trained. Akkas and other staff are well informed and trained to handle kids in a Montessorian way!!

Mahanlingapuram has classes till Grade 4. All kids do get personalised attention. I would advise you to visit the Mahalingapuram Branch and have an interactive session. Do call up for an appointment at :

Sharanalaya Montessori School
No 64, 2nd street,
Kamdar Nagar,Mahalingapuram,
Chennai-600034.

Thanks Uma, That's very encouraging. The Pallikaranai school is almost like our backyard and that's a blessing. It is also good to know that they are also a full fledged CBSE school. I hope the Nungambakkam reputation also extends to the Pallikaranai branch.

We have done a first level enquiry and are planing to meet them on Monday. Let's see. I'll probably get back to you if I have anything specific to ask. Thaks a lot once again!

UmaNaren 2009-08-27 12:46:21

You are welcome! Do visit Mahanlingapuram Sharanalaya if possible. BTW, where do you live? Have you tried Arsha Vidya Mandir at Velachery or Hari Shree Vidyalayam at RA Puram?

Lavanya 2009-08-27 12:56:03

Thanks a lot UmaNaren. I will start the enquiry soon.

How old is your kid and which class is he/she in ? And where do you reside? Anywhere near the school ? I reside in Kodambakkam and hence the Mahalingapuram branch is closer :)

Lets see how it goes. I will also let you know if I need anything more.

If you reside anywhere near by here, do let me know.

Hi Lavanya, my daughter is a four year old. She studies preperatory class-II. We live in AnnaNagar East. Let me know once you're thru with the admission. all the best!

umasworld 2009-08-27 17:39:31

Uma, I've not tried Arsha Vidya Mandir - is that also a Montessori?

Hari Sree - I've heard very good reviws but it is a bit too far from where I live and I don't want my 3 yr old to travel taht far - we live in Pallikaranai and sharanalaya is just a 2 mins walk.

UmaNaren 2009-08-27 20:55:57

Oh! It's good to see kids walk to School! That's like dream come true! I would then recommend you Sharanalaya Public School anyday. Hari Shree is a Montessori till Grade 1.

Hi,

Checked out sharanalaya yesterday - unlike the one in Nungambakkam, this follows Montessori only till age 3. After that it is regular KG model where they include some amount of Montessori elements and give opportunity for mingling with other age groups. It is a very small place now and few kids in each class (Which I think is a good thing - I hate crowded classrooms). The faculty and administrators seem very approachable - hope that will continue even after admissions.

Will most probably go ahead with this. Hope this won't be a let down like the earlier one.

Uma

Hi Smartiechirp, Luna2,

Yes, my daughter goes to Sharanalaya and she is happy and so am I. So far, its been good. They have just started this year and have till class V. They plan to add one class every year. They follow the CBSE board and combine Montessori methods till age 5. The building is a small one now with just enough classrooms, but they are planning a full fledged building soon. The classrooms are airy and there's lot of open spaces too. I also understand that they are planning to buy some more of the adacent land.

The management is accessible and open to suggestions. There are only few kids in the classes now and the student teacher ratio is healthy - I hope it would be maintained as they grow as well.

The fee... It is 6k per term and we paid some admission fee as well, but don't quite remember how much - will check and update.  You can call them on this no: 64558809 for more details on admissions next year.

I think the school van does go to Keelakattalai, there are couple of kids who come from that area if I'm right.

Cheers,

Uma

Hi Uma,

Im planning to join my son in Sharanalya @ Pallikaranai in LKG and visited school as well.  Before taking final decision, I would like to get your feedback on the below, as your daughter is already going to that school.

1.   Hygiene.

2.   Student-Teacher ratio

3.  Co-curricular activities

4.  Montessari standards at this branch comparative to Nungabakkam branch.

Also, please suggest any other  good CBSE school near pallikaranai(Chettinad housing) as Im new to that place.

Thanks in Advance.

UmaNaren 2010-01-04 21:27:45

Hi Deepika, I haven't visited Pallikaranai Sharanalaya. Sorry! Why don't you visit the School and talk to the Principal in person? Did you try for Kendriya Vidyalayas in and around? Arsha Vidya Mandir @ Velachery is a good CBSE School. There's also Srimati Sundaravalli Memorial School in Perungalathur. If you aren't particular about CBSE, visit Good Earth School near West Tambaram.

Cheers.

Deepika 2010-01-05 17:10:23

Thanks Uma.

I've visited school already but could not talk to prinicipal as she is on leave.  Im planning to visit again and before that Im looking forward to see some feedback of the parents whose kid is already joined.

Im basically particular about CBSE and possibly near to nanmangalam/pallikaranai area.

A general question, Is it fine to join 3yrs kid in LKG CBSE. Will the kid face any age difference problem in future.  This question is because, 've heard many CBSE schools allows 4yrs kid in LKG. Please advice.

Hi Deepika,

My daughter goes to Sharanalaya Public School in Pallikaranai. I am quite happy with the school so far. There are only 20 kids per class as of now. This does not follow the Montessori system completely but they have some activities as part of Pre KG through UKG.

Since they have just begun, they are open to suggestions and the management is quite approachable.

Hi,

I have my child studying in Sharanalaya Public school, Maxworth Nagar in Pre-Kg. I repent for my decision now.

The teacher is not montessari trained and does not pay attention to all the kids equally. The enviroment is not fun filled and the children strive for teacher's attention.I understand that they have just started but my child need not be there experiment mice.

I did a terrible mistake going by the words of the Prinicipal/Correspondent. If your child wants attention and enjoyment with learning , i would prefer EUROKIDS, Vellachery or Barathiya Vidyalaya , Medavvakam but...A BIG NO to Sharanalaya Public school
