Hi Pmanoj,

Please let me know if you have identified any good school for VSL kids in chennai. My child too looks like a VSL kid.

Dear Mr.Sathya

I need your suggestion to get admission for a 9th standard boy (State board Tamil medium) with boarding.

Will it be possible with KFI now

Hi Kitcha123,

I do not know if it will be possible now. They are very good at communicating through their website and over email. Why don't you reach out to them?

Good luck,

Hi Sathya or any other parent of KFI,

I am new to this thread. My child is eligible for applying KFI only in 2017. But I've started my research for a non mainstream school, coz I do not believe in mainstream schools' one sided development of the child. I can see so many professionals like Doctors, engineers, etc, who don't seem to possess any basic life skills required to face life and people with understanding and life skills. They see the dawn of the dooms day even at the brink of a blocking pebble on their path of 'daily life' or "life". And I've seen two students, who committed suicide coz of mark pressure and unemployment. They unearth nothing but some lacunae in our mainstream educational system. These are some reason behind my vouching for non-mainstream system.

But I need to understand better the alternative education institutions like KFI, Mirambika, etc better. How the leadership skills of pupil are honed in these schools. Do the children be exposed to environs which enables them to exploit and develop the leadership skills lies with each pupil?

The question struck my mind coz competition is encouraged in no way in these schools. Its is my faint idea that if there is no competition, where is question of leading and being followed?, which is essential testing ground for a leader to develop. Even Educators, viz Srihamsa, may try to enlighten me. Thanks.

Hi Sathya/ other KFI Parents,

I am aspiring to be a KFI parent, willing to admit my daughter in Grade 1 in 2017, when she attains age eligibility. Meanwhile  she has to be put in some other schools for LKG and UKG; I prefer Good Earth for the purpose. I would like to know whether primary in GE will be supportive for her to be admitted in KFI? Or is the chance of getting admitted in K school increases with primary in any other school? Kindly suggest me a good option and guide me. Thanks.

sathya 2014-01-17 08:43:15

Sorry @vjsuriya. I am not familiar with Good Earth.  In my opinion, The School KFI will take all factors into account, including the school you have chosen for KG.

Thanks a lot Sathya for your Quick reply.

Hi @vjsuriya,

I wanted to clarify my response. I am not suggesting that the school you pick for LKG will give you any preference. All I am saying is that the admission process at KFI is fairly detailed in terms of the thought put into it and I am sure this is one of the factors.

That said, I think they are also smart enough to recognize that parents are also constrained by distance that the child has to travel. So if you are thinking of sending your daughter a long way off to the "right" school like Good Earth, then I would suggest you rethink that plan. I don't think it matters so much that you have do something out of the way to get it "right".

Good luck,

Thank you very much Sathya for your sincere clarifications. I would like to make myself more clear for you to understand. The reasons behind my choice for GE is that the schools is also modeled on J Krishnamurthi's ideology on education and my child will get to study under the JK's model.  Also in the worst case if we are not lucky enough to get her into KFI in Grade 1 in 2017, she can continue with GE, until she gets admission during subsequent grades in KFI.

Distance is not going to adversely affect her comfort, as I am planning to shift our house next year to Tambaram, from which the schools is at half an hour travel.  So it will not be far off.

And I can choose a Montessori like Sharanalaya/ Shristi in Nungampakkam for her till 2017, but these schools do not have classes beyond child's 12th year of age. Then I will be left with fewer options coz you know the difficulty in admitting a child in 7th or 8th grade in Chennai.

Just the thing I wanted to know is whether the interviewing panel in KFI will expect us to take risk not admitting the child in any regular school, instead they like us to have chosen schools like primary Montessories or Euro Kids like schools.

If you do not mind, I would like to know where did you send your child for primary before admitting him into KFI?  Once again I thank you for your interest in sharing.

pappuchinu 2015-02-24 11:34:57

Hi Satya, why have you put your children in some other school? Any specific reason?

sathya 2015-02-24 13:25:21

Hi pappuchinu,

We moved out of Chennai. We still visit the school and think it is a fantastic place for children to grow up and learn.

pappuchinu 2015-02-24 15:33:44

Oh, thanks Sathya..
