Hello, my son is 4.5 years old and is studying in a Matriculation school. I'm planning to put him in CBSE next year. I would like to know the curriculum for UKG classes in CBSE schools so that he can take up entrance exams. Really appreciate any help/info provided.

I would advise you against CBSE. You could instead try ICSE. The ICSE syllabus is far higher than CBSE and ecourages learning based curriculum rather than a marks based one. Abacus Montessori school and The School run by the Krishna Murthi Foundation are some good schools following the ICSE syllabus. At hte UKG level the child is not ready for any "curriculum" per se. What they need is an enabling environment and a pedagogy that fosters learning. You need to look for schools where the class size is not over 30!

Wish you all the best.

Not sure if your child will be entering UKG or 1st std next year. Anyway, my child attends a CBSE school in Bangalore--UKG and will be going to the first grade June 2009. In the middle of their UKG, they are:

* Math. Learnt counting 1-100. Doing lots of greater than, equal tos and skip counting and I think that is all they will do till the end of the year (end of UKG)

* English. reading level 1 and level 2 books. Done ch and sh and most diagraphs.

Before he started UKG their class could:

* Math: I think knew numbers 1-50 and 1-100 not sure really well

* English: Read and write 3 letter words (mat, pat etc...)

hope this helps.
