Would any of you know of a good Activity Centre around Velachery? I would like to use a good Children's library for books and DVDs, etc. Also, would like to introduce my daughter (2.5 yrs) to the pool.
There is the sports complex with multiple olympic standard swimming pools right in velachery! Have used 7 years back though :< but I guess they must be operational now also.
even am looking to get info on library and swimming pool...if any of u know any info pls let me know...its for my daughter who is 2.5 years old..
Thanks Sumathy - I've heard about this as well - should check it out. I'm also interested in an activity centre, playgym kind of a place...
Jayabs, sure, will post any info taht I get here...
Hi Jayabs and Uma,
I have heard of Akshaya toy and book library in Velachery. It is opposite to Lakshmi Vidyalaya in Devi Karumari Amman Street. But I don't think there is any swimming pool.
Check it out :)
hi uma bala,.
can u tell me the exact location of the library...am not familiar about hte street..
It is almost 2 kms from the main road. First left on Byepass road when you are going away from Vijaya Nagar, Last Right from which there are directions board to the place. You can easily reach the place from that point. You can also enquire the localites there for directions.
Where are you put up Jayabs?
Thanks for the info
i remember seeing this nagar somewhere..but not able to recollect...anyway will try to find out..hows the library ? whats the registration fee and how much do they charge for rentals ? any idea ?
am put up in dhandeeshwaram ....wat about u ?
I took my kid once. I am not able to judge because I have never been to such kind of places before. But my kid did enjoy. I did not check on the library. But the funland[as they call it] had some toys, slider, frog jumper, small basket ball net, balls, puzzles etc. There is no registration fee. They charged me Rs. 50 for one hour in the fun land.
I am put in the Bye Pass Road near Ratna Cafe.
oh ok...i will check out the place..probably kids will enjoy....:)
thanks for the information....by the way how are u engaging ur kid during weekends ? u work right ? i had put a separate post on that..but no replies yet...
Yes am working. I do nothing spl. I cook some dishes to her liking. We take her out, mostly it will be park or beach or shopping or just walk around :)
What do you do?
am also working....its the same thing we do...but just get bored..so wanted suggestions..:-)
which park do u go >
I take her out to Kotturpuram Park or Guindy National Park.
Do let me know if you get any good suggestions.
yeah..i always wanted to go to the kotturpuram park..will try out once..Guindy national park is too crowded..so didnt like it much...
sure, will let u know..
you too share anything u come across....i will try out the akshaya lending library which you mentioned yesterday...by any chance do you have their number or address ?
Uma, thanks for the info ...and the directions :) - this place should be a good change.. and rs.50/- per hour seems to be ok too...will check it out..
I've taken my daughter to Vanilla couple of times and she enjoyed the playgym thoroughly. I work too and weekends are a challenge. That's one of the reasons why I started this post :)
I've heard of some really good activity centres in Bangalore (one of my friends runs one). The really good centres have some very good books, educative toys, puzzles, good DVDs - cartoons, movies etc, video games, paints, crayons, etc... and a good play area and play gym. Enough to keep them occupied during the weekends.
I take my daughter to the beach near sholinganallur - its not too crowded and the sand is still white and clean...she is happy picking shells and making castle and mucking around. She loves shopping too... and she loves to eat out :)
I've heard that this is the right age to introduce kids to the pool - I'm planning to do that sometime. My concern though is about the cleanliness, hygiene etc of the pool. Swimming also improves appetite...
where is this Vanilla play gym ? can u pls let me know !? thnx
also am looking for a swimming pool to take my daughter....did u get any info on that ?!
Hi Uma, Vanilla is in Luz Avenue, Mylapore - backside of Nageswara rao park. Check this out: www.vanillaplace.com. It has wi fi etc so you can also take work there if you have to...kiddo will happily play and u don't have to worry about the lil one getting hurt.
I've also heard of another place that is apparently bigger:
# 105, Chamiers Road
RA Puram, Chennai, Tamilnadu 600028
Jaya - about the swimming pool...the aquatic complex in velachery is the one that I'm planning to check out...
hi uma, thanks for the info...this weekend i will try and take her to some different place as suggested by you guys..
What is that wi fi thing u have mentioned ?didnt get that !?!?!
yep, even i have heard about aquatic complex...let me know if u enquire..i wud also be interested !
Where is this beach you mentioned near Sholinganallur?
& uma, how is it charged in Vanilla !? do they charge on a hourly basis or what ?
can u let me know these details pls..
Uma, we take one of the lanes opposite Malgudi (the restaurant on ECR) - if you are driving from thiruvanmiyur, you pass Malgudi (on your right) and find an that leads to a beach - this is populated enough to make you feel safe and yet not too crowded...
Jaya, Vanilla charges Rs 150/- and you can be there the whole day I think (I used it 3 - 4 months back...not sure if it is the same now). The wi Fi - they have a wi-fi zone and a small cafeteria (which is quite expensive) - so you can take your laptop and connect to the internet and work from there if need be.
Here's a good review of Baby's Day Out: sounds like a much bigger place than Vanilla and also seem to have lots more than a playgym...Here's the link: http://chennai.metromela.com/article/Baby%27s+Day+Out,+with+drums,+books+and+trampoline/634
I'll let you know as soon as I find out about the aquatic complex - I'll be out of town till 8th so will be checking it out only after that though...
Here's one more I found:
# 11, Jagadambal Street, T Nagar
Chennai- 600017 ,
And here's the review: http://chennai.metromela.com/article/Fun+time+at+Hansel+%26+Gretel/1774
Hi...thanks for the info on vanilla...btw, i have been to this Hansel & Gratel ..the place is quiet good...has got good number of indoor games and an outdoor with some false roof..it has two swings and sliding boards..and also has got lot of toys and some activity games, balls to play with etc...
They charge Rs.75 per hour....fully air conditioned..and it will be good for the kids to play around...hte place is not too big..but spacious enough...may be you can try it out once...

Only today i started to browse through parentree and got enrolled.
Actually, i was little depressed today, bcoz i spoke with my Son's teacher (he s n L.KG.)
She said that he is very naughty and never listens to her and the root cause of other kids becoming naughty, listening to that i felt like crying, bcoz, as a mother this is the first time am listening such things.Bcoz, even me or my brother never posed such complaints, when we were kids.I realize now how my mother would think about us when we do things which is out of the way, at that time when my mother shouted at me i used to think "y is she doing this?", but now, as a mother, its is NOT AT ALL EASTY TO BRING UP A KID.That too at the era of TV, Violence around and all sorts of unacceptable things, we should be careful, that our kids dnt catch up bacterial things to corrupt their minds.
The problem is, we live in an individual house, no kids to play around and his only playmate is my 2.2 yrs daughter and toys.Today, i logged in to the net only to find any parks or any activity center in velachery.so that he has a outlet.
I found many place from ur comments thank u.
And regarding swimming, i enquired for my son, he s 3.5 yrs , they said they take up kids only from 5yrs or if they are 4 ft.So, dropped of swimming class and started looking for some other activities.
