We relocated to Chennai last month. Our son got admission into Class I at P S Senior Secondary School, Chennai.
Need your help/inputs regarding:
a) How good is P S Senior Secondary School when compared to its peer schools and other good schools in Chennai. Especially for Class I.
We relocated from Hyderabad to Chennai and have taken Hindi as 2nd language. Our son does NOT know Tamil yet. Do teachers at P S converse with the students in English or do they use Tamil also at their discretion. Do the teachers encourage students to converse in English?
How stressful will it be on the kid for not knowing Tamil (assuming that most kids will NOT talk to each other in English at Class I level - it's more of peer bonding that I'm concerned of)
Academically, this schools seems to be too good. How about extra-curricular activities?
Any inputs/experiences about Class I teachers in this school?
b) We are in Mambalam/T Nagar area right now and P S Senior doesn't run its buses to this area. Anyone who is staying in and around these areas and whose kids are attending P S Senior Secondary School? If we have to relocate to areas where P S buses ply, which areas are recommended?
Thanks in advance for your help, inputs and support.
How about the teacher-student ratio in P S for Class I. How many sections are there and what is the average class strength. Thanks.
I understand yr concern. My son is going to 8th class in p.s. senior. Don't worry. All the teachers talk in english and your child will adjust in no time. (100% he will learn tamil before you do) I came with my son when he was in 1st std from abroad. He did'nt know a word in tamil, and now you wll not believe. (There are lot of hindi speaking children also so worry not) About extra activities, they do have cricket junior and senior team, badminton, and art classes like drawing, painting, quiz, etc. If you're interested in music they also have violin, mridhangam, dance, vocal also. soooo, good luck.
Thanks Anny. Your reply is so assuring.
Sorry to be a pest, but, any idea if P S students stay and travel from Mambalam/T Nagar areas to school?
As far as I know many students come from mambalam area. I guess school bus also travels to that area.
Please let me know the admission procedure in PS school. I am looking for an admission for my daughter for Pre KG. Also we are staying in Thiruvanmyur. Does school bus come till Thiruvanmyur.

how about the communication and exposure to children in this school?
Hi, Can anyone compare between PS Senior and DAV ? Children becoming overall confident is my first priority and academics is next. Please suggest.
As far as admission procedure is concerned you have to get the application forms in January itself. Plese check the school for age. Teacher student ratio is bad. in kg classes i think there are 25 students per class. but 1st standard onwards its 35 to 45 per class. work load is not much, but parents cannot ignore the studies altogether. you have to sit with the child before the assignments every month. (school will give portions only in the last min) we have to make them learn everyday portions, so that it will not be taxing for the kids. (i guess its like this in all CBse schools). for the next question, p.s is better cbse school in the area. Vidya Mandir is better than ps.(as far as i know children are more confident in English annd Hindi) my son is studying in VIII PS) Fee is nominal. For higher classes Maths, phy, che, PS is better.
Lakshmi, communication and dicipline is not that good in PS. Parents have to work very hard with the child in that area.
Sangeetha, Ps has lot of activities, like music, dance, mridhangam, violin, painting, etc.
Sara, If you want to compare overall activities like music, participaton in extracurricular activities, games, academics, then I thinks PS is better than DAV.
DAV is best for those who are looking for only academics. Nobody can beat DAV in academics. Good results in 10th and 12th.
The worst part and confusion for students and parents is that the latest news from the government to withdraw the 10th board exam and evaluate the students by grades(overall performance) Not all students can score in debate and discussions. they might be little uneasy in talking infront of people.
Anyway, lets hope that this new system works without any problems,
Lot of valuable insights from Anny Iyer. I second her observations based on the inputs I gathered from other parents. I also learned that girl to boys ratio is not in favour of girls at higher classes (PS parents, please validate if you have data to support).
Appln forms for Pre KG were issued for PS on 23rd (9 am - 3:30 PM).
@dhivyaprasanna: As a freshman your son would not face difficulty after
spending time at PS :) Most staff in PS do believe in self studies at least
during Grade XI and XII (apart from what is done in class). That is good in
a way, your child gets to experience how good/bad things can be. There are
really good staff too in PS.
High school math (at least XI and XII) not all that difficult for someone to work
out solutions on board for every problem. There are good number of examples
to get the concepts in the textbook. CBSE math is fairly simple. I would really
suggest PS for Grade XI and XII.
For primary school i have no clue how the school is but for grade VI - IX not all
that good to feel comforted. class X its okay.. Not that other schools are good
Few schools ( atleast peer pressure) help in developing non-academic skills
which will help your kid in the long run, which ( ambience ) PS may not provide.
Usha Varadharajan might not go near the blackboard, But all students agree that she is a very good maths teacher. Even though she very tough and shouts at students, most of the students wants her as maths teacher. Definitely, PS gives a strong foundation in Maths.
What is the procedure to get Ist standard admission in PS senior? I am planning to relocate to Chennai next year and my daughter will be 5 by then. Can you please shed some light?
First of al,Can someone pls tel me what is the selection criteria for getting admitted into p.s senior secondary school...Most oof my neighbours who are within 1 km form the school campus did not get admission into p.s senior ...So can i expect my daughter getting admitted to pre-kg in 2012..I heard ppl telling high influence or recommendation is reqd..is that true..or any other factors like donation, alumni,or siblings studying are quiired..?
Could you please let us know when they give out application forms for pre-kg. Do they take in admisions for class 1 as well?. Do they have the condution that we need to be in 5km vicinity from the school. Please suggest.
I want to shift my daughter from ICSE to CBSE - preferrably PS seniors
Met school authorities three times but they are not sharing any application forms - can you suggest how to get it - and when?
PS is giving out applications for pre kg now till this month end. And yes recommendations, siblings studying in the school will help in the admission process. They don t have the criteria of students staying nearby only can study in the school. They have students coming from velechry and t nagar too. After lot of confusion about board exams now parents and students have setteled down to face the so called SA II exams. Good luck to all the parents whose tension is much reduced by the cbse board for their wards sa2.
Getting admission in ps is based on the entrance test conducted by the school and some recommendations. Thats all. Good luck
Admission to first std. Is based on the avilability of seats. Very few students go out of the school in all the classes. But, for first std, the chances are pretty high. So dont worry. Jan is the best time to approach the school for application. If they have avilability then they will ask yr ward to write entrance test. Good recommendations, and known students studying in the school might help in getting the form. They finish of the admission before feb itself. Hope this helped u. Good luck.
We are relocating to India in June and am trying for admission for my daughter in 7th grade and son in 2nd grade. Is it a good school? They have got admission in St Johns, but what do you suggest? Is the entrance test very difficult? and my kids dont know Hindi for third language...!pls let me know your views and how do I know when they are giving out forms? What is the next best option?
Thank you for your replies.
What should we prepare for entrance tests and when would they be?
Any latest info about Pre-KG admission ? the last update is the results will announced on Mid of March.
