I m residing in Mandaveli, my son is studying in CV 1 std. My younger daughter has completed 2yrs this august, I m planning to shift to omr area due to high rental in cities. I know CV is good but child needs more spacious during their childhood to play as well. I m very Confused abt school whether to continue in same school to move to omr area. Suggest me which is best in tht area.
i don't find any school more spacious then cv within chennai city.. It is gd in sports aspect.. So if u have no prb with ur kid travelling from omr to Adyar then don't change school.
In my opinion sending 5 and 2 yr old children on long commute is not advisable.
There are several good schools in and around Sholinganallur. I have listed them in order of my preference, you can easily visit each school and evaluate -
1. Babaji Vidhyashram - A/C - reasonable fees - CBSE affiliated with playground
2. PSBB Millenium - Non A/C - reasonable fees - CBSE affiliated with playground
3. NPS - A/C - medium to high range fees - ICSE affifliated without playground
4. Velammal - A/C - medium to high range fees - not affiliated, no playground for now
5. Narayana & Chaitanya - A/C - high fees - fully commercial, no playground
6. St.Johns Public School - Non A/C - medium to high fees CBSE Affiliated with playground
I found that it is tough getting admission in Babaji & PSBB however both are very good. Both my children study at Babaji.
Hope this helps.
By the way, I shifted to Sholinganallur, OMR two years back from Adyar and I am very happy....plenty of reasonably priced properties both to rent as well as to buy. Very good utilities - banks, grocery, vegetables etc., no pollution and good connectivity to heart of city. Iam quite happy
I Suggest you try Narayana OMR branch. Apt place for your child. My daughter is studying in the same school 2nd STD. Its huge so give it a try.
Thanks for sharing the good schools around Sholinganallur. I am currently staying at Alwarthirunagar and planning to put my son next year in Babaji
Vidhyashram or PSBB
Millenium in 4th Standard. Could you tell when normally Babaji
Vidhyashram starts their admission process and will they give admission since I am planning to shift my residence only after getting admission in schools.
I am trying LKG for my son in
Can you suggest which one to choose?
I heard gud reviews abt Babaji, but i also heard that there is lot of water logging during rainy season.
and since Velammal is new schoolm I am not getting much review abt the same?
Both schools are good choices, you should have PSBB as first choice if you are looking for established schools/brand and Babaji as the choice if you are considering newer schools.
I had approached both and I found that PSBB there was rejection right from watchman level to control the frenzy of parents who approach the school for admission.....you can still talk to the office and try and see if you can apply early to get through. The process is a little opaque but if you get adequate recommendation / push it works. One of the parents who had applied with me got through using recommendation.
At Babaji the admission process was more organized and transparent. They have a pure first come...first serve system. Recommendations generally don't work and in fact seems to put off the people in the school. I simpy walked in, registered, got the application by email, attended their interaction on the date they gave and got the seat.....zero recommendation. Wehreas I saw several people bringing letters not getting the seat. They have a system of registering for admission throughout the year bt admission given only once.
Just approach both school offices in straight forward manner and I am sure you will get through with either one. Good luck.
There was water logging in all schools on OMR.....Iam not sure about Babaji, but they reopened after rains on the same date as all other schools. My own house was waterlogged and I could not get in / out of my house for nearly two weeks to check on the school.
Infact 80% of schools in Chennai where waterlogged in December and 100% of them where closed on orders of government. So I think it will be difficult to judge only on that parameter.
Velammal i think is very process driven.....you put in the the child, there is a standard formula for dispensing education, if child is good he/she picks up and comes out good. They have multiple locations and if you have a transferable job it may be an advantage but evaluating which school is good will require your personal visits to all the schools in the area and your own expectations from the school.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I have applied in Babaji and waiting for next step. Could you tell me more about the Babaji school. Till what standard now they have classes. How the teaching standard in higher standards? Do they have students enrolled for XI and XII. Is school campus is small compared to PSBB and Vellammal?
Also, I do one little concern about the lake since it is just behind the Perumbakkam big lake.
Thanks for your reply.
@tsivaraman, they have admission only till 10th std. They are increasing standards every year. They started with 8th standard and now they have increased till 10th. hopefully in 2-3 years they wil be having 12th
@papabear can you please provide the school timing for UKG and 6th Grade. I have admitted my kids for next academic. Also please let me know how about the transport you are using. We are from Perumbakkam Sree Varadhapuram.
I am planning to move to Chennai in mid of Dec For school admissions sake. I understand from this group that the admission process has already started in some of the schools. I am planning to be around Shollinganallur area and interested in Babaji Vidhyashram and PSBB. Any one know if there is a possibility of getting admissions if i approach the school in Mid Dec ? OR Should i act now? I am outside the country currently. Also, Any details about the entrance exam for kids would be appreciated. Am looking for admission in 5th grade for my daughter in CBSE schools.
Thanks @1311 & @papabear
Could you tell more about the fees structure.
Admission Fees Rs.74,800/- Is it non refundable one time payment?Tuition (Monthly/Qrt/Yearly)Rs.54,000/ - Is it entire annual fee?
After first year, What will be fee structure for Standards like 5th, 6th Standards.
Also I would like to know the management more. Do they have branches in other cities? Are they running any other educational institutes?
Thanks for promptly replying in this forum.
@1311, Both my children are in primary so I am not sure about KG's I think the time is 9.30 to 12.30 / 12.45 for KG's. For primary it is 8.30 a.m. to 3.50 p.m. One of my kids walks / cycles and I drop the other kid, I have not opted for any transport.
tvsivaraman,To the best of my knowledge they don't have any other branches. Several eminent people seem to be behind the institution. They have a bit of info on their website which should answer your questions. IN general when I approach the school with questions they are very transparent and open in answering everything.
