I am Kandasamy from Velachery and father of 1 year 4 months boy (as 11-Mar-2014). I am looking for decent schools and more importantly bit transparent in admission process (seem hard). I am bit frustrated with choosing schools even Pre KG / Play school. Too much thinking also hurts the searching. I want to provide reasonable learning and enjoyable environment to my child. I did not expect my child to become state first instead good understanding of the social, multi cultural, economic, science affairs.
so far I am interested in following schools,
1. Arsha Vidya Mandir, Velachery Road.
2. Chettinad Vidyashram, RA Puram.
*Kendriya Vidhyalaya, IIT Campus
I like Kendriya Vidhyalaya (KV) shools but it is not possible for outsiders (non-government staffs). Is there any possible to get in?
Please let me know the actual admission procedures ( like application form dates, donation if any, recommendation if any).
Please keep updating it if any new useful info avail.
i heard from my neighbour that kendriya vidyalaya kodambakkam admits students from open quoto also. in this campus it starts from 1standard alone. dont know about IIT campus.
for all schools, first and foremost is getting connected to a right person is important besides money.
Arsha Vidya Mandir, Velachery Road- your seat is assured if you have high level recommendations from Ramco Group, or arsha vidhya gurukulam http://www.arshavidya.in/
In and around Velachery -
DAV Public School, Velachery (CBSE)
Bala Vidya Mandir, Adyar (CBSE)
Tatva Play School
Arsha Vidya Mandir (CBSE)
Sri Sankara Higher Secondary School, Adyar (CBSE)
CV demands huge donations, so think about it! :)
Tatva seems quite reputation but unfortunately very limited classes (Kinder gardeners level only not beyond that).
I am considering this school for Pre KG and then move to Arsha Vidy Mandir for LKG.
I heard Chettinad asks around 1.75 Lakh rupees donation for LKG admission this year.
LKG admissions are very limited and it sometimes becomes frustrating. Its better to be on the look out for good schools in PreKG itself.
Since you are in Velachery, why not try DAV?
Thanks for this mail chain.. My daughter is 1.5 yrs old now..iam staying in madipakkam,
I wanted to know if dav velachery or dav adambakkam is a good one to try for prekg.
If both are not good then i can try Arsha vidya mandir for lkg... though admission would be tough.
Pls suggest good cbse schools around madipakkam?
Arsha Vidy Mandir's admission is going tougher year on year. This year AVM donation is Three Lakh and also need recommendation from Ramco employee's.
I have to forget this school for my son. It will be out of range for Academic Year 2016-17 LKG, because Donation may rise to 5 Lakh and fees too.
I will keep searching on decent schools and update you.
I have shortlisted few schools for prekg admissions.
1. DAV Velachery
2. DAV Adambakkam
3. Sairam vidyalaya (CBSE)
If all the 3 schools are not good then shall try Arsha vidya mandir for LKG..
Please advise me friends which one is the best.
There is no donation at AVM and fees is very nominal. Not sure where you got that information from.
@huntStillon -- r u aware which school is good - dav adambakkam vs dav velachery vs avm
@huntstillon, i got that info from our neighbor. They are trying for their second daughter (currently in Sunshine school) for 4 std admission with sibling quota (Elder one is studying X std in AVM). credible info that's why i am worried. But I never found any forum or blog about donation for AVM.
I got another info from our different neighbor, there is no donation but they check the parent's salary (above 15 Lakhs / anum salaried people will get the seat). their relative tried that school last year and got rejected because of salary.
Most common criteria for selection:1. Highest Salary 2. Highest education of parents3. Working Company4. Distance between home and school
*5. Recommendation *6. Donation* best school may need
@ ??lavan85, so far I heard AVM is the best school and also i did not get any single bad reviews except admission related issues.
Kanda since you are in Velachery you can try Navadisha Montessori school. From your expression its pretty clear you are not looking for a school which aims for state rank. It is very different school which will meet all your expectation. Its very tough to get admission since they follow student teacher ration very strict. I tried for admission for my son but did not get thru. You can try for prekg next year. Similar schools around velachery is Abacus Montessori perungudi, Srujana Montessori Kovilambakam
@semmalar: I heard Navadisha selection is based on lot system. I will try all of them in and around velachery.
Thanks, Keep posting any updates. It may helpful to everyone.
DAV Velachery is definitely the best bet, if you are living in Velachery and looking for a not-so-expensive good CBSE school. They have good curriculum (a little tough) and right amount of extra curricular activities. The Vatika campus is small and commuting during the rains is difficult. But o'wise a good school.
I don't have any info about DAV Adambakkam.
Navadisha, I hear is good. But I prefer CBSE to ICSE (Especially in Chennai). Also I'm not very kicked about the idea of having 3-6 years kids all studying together (Montessori)!!!
Sunshine - Too expensive.
AVM - Good for primary. But later on it would be difficult to make a shift to a good school. Also 2 areas of concern - 1) start handwriting in 1st std. 2) Affiliated to CBSE & Cambridge! If you are keen on CBSE, we don't know what board they would follow few years down the line.
Tatva is good play school. Best in Velachery!
Both DAVs and AVM have nominal fees.
Kanda I also heard from a friend they simply put that admission is based on lot system. My friend got admission for his two kids this year.
I think Tatva will be the right choice for your kid......
for the class strength and the care and love for the early stages that the child needs....
and it is Tatva school and they are coming up with their primary classes as well.
Is anyone from west tambaram... really confused with preschools here. My kid is in currently in kidzee and Iam highly disappointed with it. There is ABC school nearby. But now iam really very sceptical about any preschool. Is there a good option for Lkg in west tambaram?
Can you please tell me the admission process and the review about these schools?
3. Sishya, OMR
4. Arsha Vidya Mandir
I am not in the look out for the best schools in town, but the school that would be best for my kid. So, not interested in only academic deliverable schools. My kid is 4 yr old and planning to put him in UKG next year (if i get), or else ok if i get in LKG. Currently he is in Eurokids.
I am new to chennai. Please help me with the review of the Shrine Vailakanni school, T nagar? Any other good CBSE schools in and around T nagar/ West mambalam
Is anybody has idea about recommendation in DAV Public school and how to use it?
I have not heard anyone getting through recommendation. As long as you submit all the documents correctly (they ask for a lot of docs) you have a fair chace of getting through.
I have tried for ssm this year for my daughter for ukg admission. But they refused saying that they take admission either at lkg or for 1st std. Will I face this problem with every school. Which other cbse school can I look up to? I reside in west tambaram. Please help if you have any info.
Hi...initially you can try to join your child in playschool. My daughter is going to Arise n Shine Velachery and its very good school with well trained teachers.
Thanks bujj. My daughter is going to ABC montessori right now. But I have heard that it is difficult to get admission at later classes. So was trying for admission in cbse schools.
Thanks Puzzled. I am worried about distance (3.7KM from school). Will they reject the application?
I heard they only accept less than 3 KM residents.
Yes. 3Km is what the criteria is. But again I know people coming from Nanganallur. Isn't that more than 3 Kms? Always better to keep other options open!
