Hi all,

Being an alumini of St. John's, Ive decided to start this thread for those parents who are planning to admit their kid in John's. St. John's is one school which has had great reputation for delivering wonderful education for many years. Unlike Hindu & Shankara, the students of John's carry an attitude which i feel is because of their emphasis towards spoken english and adherence to discipline. Now, getting to the point lemme talk about the pros & cons!

Pros:  Very strict when it comes to communicating in English. ( Tamil, Hindi or any native languages are strictly prohibited in the campus) . Students coming out of John's have great English speaking skills.

Very strong emphasis on dress code & other hygiene factors such as maintenance of books, notebooks etc:-

Well trained teachers ( though not very efficient, the chairman " being an autocrat", has drilled the teachers to such an extent that they ought to provide decent education ).

Extra curricular activities are encouraged

Academic oriented

Moderate fees

Cons: Small playground

St John's has a history of producing Notorious Students who carry an unreasonable superiority complex ( unlike Hindu, Shankara )

Few succumb to pressure due to the strict nature of management. Hence a lot depends on how much love, attention & kindness the students receive at home.

Very traditional in following education pattern. Mental arithematic, vedic mathematics, meditation, stress busting activities are not taught.

School doesnot beleive in 1 on 1 interaction & personal attention to every student

Class room strength is high ( average ranges between 45 - 55 per class )

Homeworks & assignments

application cost - Rs.350

Registration cost ( ie., at the time of submitting the filled up application form) - Rs.300

Momof1 2011-01-29 09:30:10

Thank you Smart Mom1. Please tell me when you get call for interview.

When is the admission form being issued for  st  michaels?

What other schools are u trying?

Momof1 2011-02-04 22:05:34

Have got interview call for my child. If selected need to pay fees immediately. Am confused because St Michaels is my first choice and St Johns second but application is given only on 12th and I cant leave out St Johns as I might not get inetrview call from Michaels.

Please tell me which school is better and why.

daffy 2011-02-09 16:57:52

today we attended the interview and paid the fees...they asked the child his name, some rhymes etc.,

Both schools have got a legacy of producing both brilliant as well as notorius candidates. Am an ex St. Johnian and have been living in Thiruvanmiyur for close to 25 years. During my school days , I should say that Michaels used to produce more notorius characters than Johns, since Johns management was stricter, but apart from that I dont see much difference except for the fact that Johns is CBSE and yes, its good news that Michaels have applied for ICSE. But, in todays world whats more important is INTERACTIVE LEARNING. Sadly, both these schools follow the traditional method of textbook based teaching, memorizing and giving regular homework. If you want a comparison I would rate both the schools equally (maybe a slightly better rating for Michaels school timing).
