My son is a US citizen and we are planning to move to chennai. I am looking for schools in chennai and wondering if the schools in chennai have a different fee structure for NRI's or just the same as Indian born.

Please let me know.

Some schools do and some do not. It depends on the schools you are interested in. If you post a list of schools, parents from those schools may be able to give you an answer.

I am also in the same boat. I researched the same from schools (near Medavakkam and scholinganallur) and i found that only few schools like APL Global (IGCSE/IB ) charge a different fee for NRI kids. You can see in their website mentioning for Foreign students.
I have inquired the following schools this year for my Kid and they don't charge  different fees for NRI schools.
1) Babaji Vidhyashram (CBSE) -Scholinganallur
2) SAN Academy -CBSE-Pallikaranai
3) BVM Global Bollinihill side- CBSE and IGCSE,Sithalapakkam
4) NPS international-Perumbakkam
5) PSBB Perumbakkam-CBSE
6) Vales Billa Bong-ICSE/IGCSE-Injambakkam
7) Gateway International- CBSE Neelankarai

We moved to Chennai from US few years ago and I can only talk about Hindu Senior secondary school (CBSE) in Adyar as both my girls went to that school. Hindu school doesn't have any different fees structure for Indian citizens or NRIs.... For people moving in the middle of the year, please note you wont get admission in any of the CBSE/ICSE schools as admissions for the current academic year (2017-2018)would have already closed by Jan-Feb of this year.

You would need to join your child in IGCSE or some non-standard new schools in your localities. Pls be prepared to pay 1.5-3L per child per annum. All these international schools wont have any issue admitting children in Aug/Sept timeframe.

If you are really interested or planning to stay back in India for quite sometime, you can admit your child in international schools for an year and then change them to a more academically robust board of education system in future.

Hope this helps...happy relocating!!!

My kids are US citizens as well but we moved to india and settled here 2 and half years ago.
As far as i have found - at school level there is nothing called as NRI category - may be there will be spike in donation depending on the management. Only post 12 in college the kids will come under non-local category and fees as far as i know is double the local born here.

@Parvathi - I believe you can contact external affairs you can give up US citizenship and take up indian citizenship if parents are indian citizens.
