Dear all,

Anyone whose kid is in Patasala Montessori school? Any idea of how the school is?

I am interested in joining my daughter in a montessori school and this school is close to my place and hence would like to know more.

Any inputs would be appreciated. .Thanks in advance

Lavanya,

I know a few kids who have been to Patashala and the feedback is very good! They follow Montessori system and have trained Montesori teachers unlike few other othrs who just advertise as a montessori system and have untrained staff. They've been around for many years and are quite well established.

Cheers,

Uma

Hi Uma

Thanks for your response.  Would you know more details about the school ? We would need to look out for other schools after some years unless the school has full fledged elemantary montessori as well.  Do you know till what age the school caters to ? Or does it have a tie-up with some other school ?

Thanks

Lavanya

Lavanya, Jaya,

From what I know, Patashala can have children till 9 yrs. They have two campuses - the one in Nungambakkam is till age 6 and there's another one in Tirumurthy Nagar (behind Palmgrove Hotel, I think) taht accommodtaes children from 7 to 9.

Most of these schools have some understanding with other regular shools for admissions, you could check with them about it.

Here's the url: http://www.patasalamontessori.org/ for more info...

Patshala is an excellent school, with well trained teachers, - this is based on the feedback given by my friend whose kids studied tere. i have been targetting to put my daughter in this school from the date i conceived :-) , it is too good is what i felt when i visited them for an exhibition during Jan 2007.

With actual intention of putting her there for Jun 2009, i visited the school on Jan 2009, these points came to my mind 1. uniform was not mandatory i believe ( i am not sure whether it exists also ) will it be ok till 5th std lik that? 2. it will be  a small env until ther 10 years for my daughter - will she miss the exposure of being part of BIG school. 3. Again in 6th std you should worry about her admission, it is not ONCE done and forget...

Anyway my daughter was only 2, and she was eligible for admission only on Sep 2009. Before that, A-School got launched, convinced by their ideologies i put her there. So far so good in A-School, but A-School let us feel sometimes that PATSHAALA would have been a better choice as they are in this for many years. For me however distance was also a factor. patshaala is 10Km away from home.

Thank you, Uma and Devi for your detailed response.

Yes, Devi : your point about worrying about admissions again is so right. As you said, we cannot do it ONCE and forget about it  :(. We need more schools with montessori methodology for elementary schooling as well :(

I dont seemd to find any information about any tie up with other schools. I shall try to visit the school and gather more information. Thanks for your inputs.

Lavanya,

All kds from the well established Montessoies are taken into regular schools, so I don't think its a concern anymore. Also, many upcoming modern schools are also adopting Montessori methods now, so its no longer removed from regular academics. But if it is the process of school selection etc that you are thinking about, then yes... it is another round of effort and confusion and debates etc.

Like Devi, I also wanted my daughter to be in Patashala, but I moved towards the IT corridor!

Lavanya 2009-10-09 19:34:33

Uma,

Yes, process of school selection is indeed the point.

However, Can you name a few such schools adopting Montessori ? Some schools that I can think of are KFI, Abacus. I may be wrong about Abacus. Are there more?

Moreover, even if we decide to take on the challenge again after a few years (assuming that the kid studies in montessori system till 5 yrs or 9yrs as is the case with Patasala), i can think of the following main constraints/problems

1) Good schools around our location.

2) Availability of seats. As it is now, it is difficult to get in LKG, if a school has Pre-KG. That being the case, wouldn't it be even more difficult for later stds like 1st or 3rd or 5th or whatever may be the case

3) And we need to do the groundwork now itself even for that before putting her in montessori right? Because, it will be better always if you have a back up plan.

What do you think ?

I would really love to hear from all as this is the confusion that many parents (including me) are facing right now.

Rgds

Lavanya

Lavanya,

I agree that the process is quite tedious. Your point No 1 is very valid.

On Point 2 - When I checked with few Montessories, I was told that the kids are taken into specific 2 or 3 schools and they even guaranteed admissions. Why don't you check with Patashala about this?

Point 3: Yes, if you are not ok with the set of schools that the Montessori has an understanding with, then you are pretty much on your own again and it is difficult to find a seat.

On schools follwoing Montessori system: Yes, KFI and Abacus draw from this system. The others I've come across are: Kids Central, Navdisha, Sharanalaya that are well known. There might be others taht I am missing though.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Uma, Thank you for your response.

For any of the above mentioned montessori schools, I need to relocate :(

I am planning to check with Patashala on Point 2. May be I will visit the school in person to get a better idea.

Thanks so much for your inputs.

Hi Ramya,

When I checked with the school over the phone, they told me that they do not have a tie-up with any school. So once they complete 9 years, we will have to look out for another school.

Hi Freinds,

My son will be joining Patasala Montessori from this June. Any of you have your child in the same school?

Regards

huchi 2010-11-20 02:53:38

Hi Chennaimom,

Could you please let me know if you are satisfied with the school , does your child like it? have you, as a parent seen positive growth in him?

What is the attitude of the teachers or the other staff of the school towards the parents and the children? what is the student-staff ratio?

When do they give admission forms?

All this will help me to choose the right place for my son for next academic year.

Thanks in advance,
