Can any body throw some light about the education and culture of the  school?

Srinivas 2008-12-17 12:13:01

I heard about chetinad vidyashram is crowded now,and they mostly focus on extra curicular activity.

MeeraS 2008-12-18 09:44:40

Chettinad is a good school.  my cousins have studied there and they are all school toppers but they say now it is too crowded but to say every other school is crowded these days.

Can you throw some light on PSBB millenium compared to chettinad vidyashram?

kitturaj 2009-01-19 16:20:12

My son goes to Chettinad. It is a good school. Let's not go by the crowd. I had a bad experience sending my son to a school which had only 30 children per section (three sections per class). All said and done, nowadays, not all teachers are caretakers and it is only the attention and care which we as parents give them at home that count in the long run. There might be a few exceptions, but definitely, teaching is no more a noble profession these days. Money matters!!!

Hi.. I just contacted Chettinad vidhyashram for my kid LKG admission only to find that the applications are distributed in the december itself. Is there a way that i could avail the admission for LKG??

devanshu 2009-04-18 14:28:47

CV is very crowded no doubt. And only if one of the parents is ready to devote 100% time on the child then its worth it. Its as if the parent also needs to attend the school! Imagine 45 kids to 1 class teacher! After all the teacher is also a human being if one grows impatient at home with children imagine doing it day in and day out! Because of this ratio there is an attention problem.

I am going to admit my son in CV this year for first std. Comments pls. How about studies?

bvidbca92 2010-02-22 11:57:58

School is very good..And standard of the school is excellent. And since your Son is going to 1std Std..try to meet the teacher once a week so that you can get the feedback regularly.

They motivate the children very well.

What is the student teacher ratio in a class? Is there over crowd?how can a teacher look at all those students in a class? Is there more than 60 students in a section?

kitturaj 2010-04-03 23:38:52

Hi Maruthi,

Answer to question 1

I dont want to bad mouth my son's previous school, by mentioning the name here, it was a bad experience.

Answer to question 2

My son is finishing 4th and going to 5th in Chettinad. School is excellent. Stress on studies is dependent on parents. I have seen some parents discuss about half-a-mark lost as if the whole world is lost. And mind you, these were parents of 1st std children. We parents create the stress. All children want to enjoy going to school.

devanshu 2010-04-04 07:14:03

I agree with Maruthi the student to teacher ratio is quite high in CVS, I also agree with kitturaj that its parents who put a lot of stress on kids even for half mark. This creates an impression in the kids mind that "marks" is the only thing he/she has to study for. In the process true education is lost, original thought is sacrificed and when the kid gets out in the real world its "thinking out of the box" that is laid stress on. So we see that so called "weak" students performing far better in a real world situation!

India is a country of 1.2 billion people. The teacher-student ratios of 1:20 etc are Western concepts, and not applicable here. In my town school we had a single teacher handling first, second AND third standards combined (that is almost 120 students)

If you want a lot of personal attention for your kid, give it yourself. At home. The school is not the place for it. If you want your kid to learn social skills, discipline, team work etc, send her to school.

One simple criterion to quickly evaluate a school is how much they pay their teachers. The better schools have better pay scales, and the useless schools pay a pittance. (If you pay peanuts, you will get only monkeys on your staff !)

And how do you tell if your kid is going to a good school ? Do not ask your friends, other parents or consult web sites. Their opinions do not matter. Instead, ASK YOUR KID. He/she is the best judge. If the child is happy and does not hate her shcool, then it is the best gift you can give her childhood.

I would like to go with Raja and wife. I have two daughters studying in Chettinad Vidyashram. I have both 'likes' and 'dislikes' about the school.. But this is the case with every other school.. My elder daughter is in 9th standard now.. this is the fourth school that she is studying.. Though late, we have now learnt that every school consists of teachers ranging from the rank of 'excellent' to 'very bad', very much like our society consiting of different kinds of people. Very often, good teachers leave the school and their place is filled by a teacher, who may be good or bad.. nobody can help it.. you can't get a school of your expectation, wherever you go.. let us learn to live with the society.. What I suggest is that if the child feels stress at school, only we have to give them counselling... we have to recreate  and refresh them.. let them have a good atmosphere at home and only by way of giving mental strength and encouragement, we can make them feel happy in whichever school they study...

I need a little help....I'm moving to chennai from gurgaon. Currently my 11 yrs daughter is going to an international school(cbse pattern,1:25 teacher- student ratio) .We have no connections in chennai and its the first time we are moving south. After some research I have shortlisted few schools-Chettinad Vidyashram, Psbb, Hindu sr.sec., Billabong, Bvm global,APL Global and Krishnamurti Foundation. How would you all rank these schools. I would appreciate your help.

Priti Gupta.

Looks like the school chettinad vidyashram is pretty crowded. I am moving from gurgaon to chennai next month. how is it in 3rd grade and lkg?

can anyone give me honest inputs on this school?

devanshu 2011-09-17 09:14:17

Hi Neevk

Yes it is quite crowded these days. Also they are undergoing a change in system to CCE. Be prepared to spend a lot of time with your kid teaching him/her at home. All the best.

NandiniBala 2011-10-30 09:35:50

Hi Devanshu,

Can u pl give a feedback abt the school for grade 3? Thanks.

devanshu 2011-10-30 10:50:31

@NandiniBala I really can't say much about grade 3 today, because like I mentioned earlier there is a change in the system. All I can say is that you need to spend quite some hours after school with your kid if you want him/her to really "learn" stuff. The Student/teacher ratio is quite low and naturally the time the teacher spends with the student becomes lesser. So the parents need to step in. We have actually started tuitions for my son! So you be the judge

NandiniBala 2011-10-30 12:36:06

Thanks for ur response. I feel, what u have said is applicable to all the schools. What I want to know is about the quality of education and the money what we pay is really worth it? I heard some people saying that Chettinad has nowadays become more commercial and hence the quality is not the same as before. As we are in the process of relocating from Dubai, we are confused much as we are getting different opinions about different schools. Kindly clarify. Thanks

Chettinad vidyashram is distributing applications for prekg, LKG and Montessori classes starting tomorrow. The details are available in the ad released in today's classifieds section of the Hindu page 4.

NandiniBala 2011-10-30 15:30:29

Thanks for the info. Is it only for these classes? Can u let me know about Grade 3?
