Frantically looking for a good school in North/South/Central Bangalore, for my little one who has just turned five.

Our focus is primarily on a school which puts the child's individuality into focus and nurtures his talents within a child-friendly environment. Ideally something which encourages the child to learn and explore as well as question the world around him and' prepares him for the 'real' world. And yes, a place where parents are closely involved with the child's development (with opportunities to interact with the school on a regular basis)

More importantly, may I add, as far removed from the typical exam-based learning as encouraged by the more traditional schools.

Any suggestions at all?

Have you checked out the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Bal Mandir?  I had met a parent who sent her daughter there and she was very happy with how they taught there.  I remember her mentioning "no homework/unit tests" etc.  I just happened to see their website too http://www.ssrvm.org

Thanks a ton Shruti and Bheema.  I will surely check out the two schools you have mentioned and quite keen to visit the places myself so as to get to know them better.

Shobha, a special thanks for the list of alternative schools you have mentioned. I too have made a list myself from the information available on the net, but, as parents you know any recommendation works best. So, yes, I can see a few common names on the list you have sent.

I am definitely going to check them all out for myself and post the feedback for all concerned.

Thank you all! That was indeed a huge help.

hi arati,

r u focusing on mainstream schools or concept-preschools? i have recently moved out from bannerghatta road and now i am frantically looking for a good school for my 2.1 year old in and around belandur. he goes to eurokids, but we want to put him into montessori school or montessori based school in june 2010.

on bannerghatta road, i have heard good things about PSBB, mitra academy, presidency school, samhita academy. there are few good montessori schools there too, if u r interested.

in jp nagar, clarence public school is good. not a personal opinion, but friends say so. why dont u check out this website http://www.educationbangalore.com/. it should narrow down the names to collect opinions and recommendations.

in case, u know a school in belandur, let me know

Dear aanchal,

Thanx for the quick response. I too was keen in sending my son to Kidzee for 2 more years and later concentrate on bigger schools. But these days, all schools take children at the pre-nursery  level only and it is difficult to get seats at Ist std. So i have started hunting for schools nearby jp nagar only as i feel kids of 3yr of age need not travel too far. PSBB is very far for me as i am put up in jp nagar. How is Innisfree? I liked DBS too...

Vil surely check the website. Vil also give some feedback abt schools at belandur.

Hi

I have been looking at schools in Bangalore and have chosen Stone Hill, it is a new school and has a lot of investment going into it. The classes are small and there is a very friendly atmostphere!!

I don't know Bangalore very well so am not sure if it is an area you were thinking of.

Best reagrds

Hi Bheema,

Can u please throw more light on the Donation and annual fee structure of Chinmaya Vidyalaya?

Also let me know about the teacher student ratio in the school.

Bheema 2009-10-21 21:34:31

 Hi Sripriya,

I paied Rs 20K per kid  as Donation and Rs.15K per kid per annum. My kids study in 4th and 1st Stds respectively (ICSE).

I am not sure about teacher student ratio though. But I have seen average 35-40 students per class.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bheema,

I just happened to read a review in the link below.

http://schoolsbangalore.blogspot.com/2009/08/chinmaya-vidyalaya.html

I am very much confused about the school. Can u please clarify on the issues discussed in the above link.I hope i am not troubling u too much.

elina 2009-10-28 01:58:28

 Hi Arati,

Innisfree is definitely very good if you are looking at JP Nagar and the vicinity. Clarence I am told is also one of the good schools in the area, so I think you have already got two of the best schools shortlisted. If I were you, to be on the safe side, I would also consider DPS South, since they too are quite good.

Hope that helps!

Bheema 2009-10-28 10:08:58

 Hi Sripriya,

Well , different people have different view about school v/s their expectations. However just for your info I am trying to respond to each point. Note that I am not promoting the school by responding this. This is my opinion. FYI, I just returned from US and have affinity towards growing hindu culture for my kids. So my openions may be biased little.

Koramangala branch is not a good one compared to Indiranagar.

- I have not visited Indiranagar branch

Teaching level is horrible.

- As I am not educational expert I can not comment

Teachers are not motivating and they dont teach discipline.

- This is not true 100%. Teachers do motivate, I have attended few parent teacher meetings and talked with few students. Students are having good descipline. It is common to have rougue students in any school.

Correction of class work or home work is not done up to the expectation of parents. Its totally blind correction.

- I think its opinion related to this parent. In our case, its fine though not excellent.

English speaking is very poor for the students.

- In general its upto mark for average Indian student. However, I have noted kids in general have developed local slang usage. Also few teachers do not speak good english. I have informed school.

Lot of project work is given for students as home work even during exam time which is total waste of time and money for students.

- Project work is given to home, true. Not during exams. May be few kids do not do it in time, then work postponed towards exam time naturally and pressure builds on parents.

Finally i dont recomend this school for anyone.

- As I told in beginning, I neither demote school nor recommend school. Just put the fact together

Hi

I was employed with DPS south as a kindergarten faculty..personally i dont believe its worthwhile paying an exhorbitant fee to an institution which doesnt provide good academic learning in higher classes.
