Are you enquiring about the Clarence high school in Richards Town? Many parents have confusion between this school and the Clarence Public School at JP Nagar.

This is an old school of Bangalore (I think they completed 100 years in 2014). This is a Christian Minority institution run by Brethern Church ( The school was established by Redwood brothers who were pioneers among the early Brethern movement in India. So a certain percentage of seats go to Christians (especially Protestant Christians). Bible scripture is a compulsory subject here. Even one including non-Christians should attend scripture classes. Admission will be granted only if parents agree to this mandatory requirement.

The school is one of the top ICSE school in Bangalore. Even last year ( there were few students from Clarence who are the toppers in the ICSE result.

Getting admission in this school is extremely difficult. They have many strict guidelines to filter out the applicants. They are strict about the age. To get admission to their preparatory class (equivalent to UKG) the kid must complete 5 years by May 31. They won't relax this even by a day.

You can see Christian influence every where in this school and strict discipline is followed. If you are not fine with Christian school, bible scripture teaching, and other related things better not to apply to this school.

Some pros and cons that I know from my friends:

  • One of the best ICSE school in Bangalore.
  • Faculty is good. They are continuing the legacy of 100 years.
  • If your focus is on academics (more than extra curricular activities) then definitely this is one school you can consider.
  • No Donations. Fees is reasonable. Affordable for the middle class.
  • Very well organized admission process.

  • School has almost 1900 students but the space is limited and hence the play area is limited. In city center they do not have much option now.
  • No school bus.

There might be other things also. These are the things I know now as an outsider. Hope parents whose kids study there can give more inputs.

Thanks a lot for the info... I got some feedback reg the teachers that all the good teachers have left clarence and about the principal failing some 1std student.. wanted some clarification reg the same And I wanted few info reg: 1.Are the students pressurised a lot from ukg onward? 2. How is the present faculty for lower classes? 3. Their relationship with the kids? ? 4. How many students are there in one class?

\\that all the good teachers have left clarence\\
I think these all are some rumours spread by some people who didn't got through the admission. In general we can hear these type of rumours/allegations for all the good schools. The best way to clarify these rumours is to speak to few parents whose kids currently study there. The information I collected above is after speaking to some of friends whose kids are studying there. According to them the faculty is good and they are even paid well also. Other wise they cannot keep faculty for long.
\\about the principal failing some 1std student\\
I too read about this incident in newspaper. Principal mentioned in the report that particular kid was having only 30% attendance. I do not know much about this.
\\4. How many students are there in one class?\\
As far as I know there are about 40-45 kids in a class.

I do not know answer about the rest of the questions. You need to speak to some of the current parents.

Hi, I€™m a distraught parent who was willing to pay 6 years€™ fees in advance ( Advance Fee Model) as asked by the principal Mr.Jerry Thomas ( some sham initiative by him).Due to the present pandemic situation, I asked for sometime to make the payment even though I had agreed to pay half the amount immediately. Mr.Jerry refused to give me any time and in fact accused me of deceiving him saying that initially I agreed and then backed out. All I asked for was some empathy during these trying times. But Mr.Jerry was too thick skinned to be persuaded. Pity, he claims to be a Ph.D.
