Hello,

I need feedback about Oakridge Bangalore for my daughter in 4th grade. I am mainly looking for the focus on academics. I would appreciate is someone can answer the following questions.

1. Do the kids have any ongoing weekly or monthly tests for the core subjects based on units? Or it it simply term based exams like other Indian schools.
2. How are the subjects taught by teachers ? Do kids participate in discussions or it's simply memorizing and writing kind of a method?
3. Are the parents informed regularly about the child's progress?
4. Do parents have access to teachers to interact if needed?

Thanks,
Tanya

Hi, my son is currently in 2nd grade.we are very happy with the school. All my replies is based on 2nd grade so I am assuming it's the same or similar to other grades too 1)they have a weekly assessment worksheets and write in their notebooks what they learnt and every Friday the books are sent home for you to see the peogress. Every 6 weeks they have a unit of interest, so the 6th week is the major asassessment. 2)they are not taught in traditional way its a ib program so its enquiry based. Kids get to watch videos, attend guest lectures, field trips, do experiments and experience everything they are learning in that unit. 3)you are sent a weekly email as to what was taught the entire week its not just academics but dance yoga swimming art IT and what they will be doing next week. They have a new software now where you can log in and check your child's progress report. I guess it will be updated every 6 weeks. It's new so I don't know how regularly that will happen. 4)you get the teacher's email id and mobile number as soon as the child's class teacher is assigned. You can contact her/him and they reply back promptly. Well, that's what my experience has been. Overall its a really good school and ib program is perfect for curious and inquisitive kids. It suits with my son abilities. 3)

Hi, I truly agree with the points sansac has shared. It's a good school offering IB curriculum and they add lot of practical approach towards each topic covered. The teachers are very courteous and approachable. They offer all the extra curricular activities.
Visit them for further details.

Dear Parents,

I would like to share my views on Oakridge bangalore.

We first visited the school a year back for an event organised for kids aged 3-6. The event was good. Kids and parents were impressed. They had spent a lot of money on the event. As our child was in a very good preschool we were not in hurry to move him to a regular school. Our first impression of the school was " They spend a lot of money on advertising". Whether its on paper, bill boards or events the money they spent is huge.

Our recent visit and the last visit to the school was today. We went to en-quire about the curriculum and admission process. A representative from the administrative block informed us that we need to take prior appointment and get the kid along, finish the procedure and need to finalize on the same day. We told her we would bring the kid for our next visit as he is in school and we will get him if we like the school and can afford the fee.She was skeptical to take things forward but informed us that she would fix a appointment and do what best she can. After about 30 min she asks as to sit in a cabin and informed us elementary coordinator would meet us. The elementary coordinator did come and asked us to leave if we were not happy with the procedures followed.(like bringing the kid along  finishing all the formalities in a single day. That was our only concern)

That is it. She had no manners, no time to speak just asked us to leave. And we did do exactly that.

When they are so many schools to choose from, we did not think we need to stoop to her level and argue or talk to her further.

We left not disappointed but happy and feeling relaxed that our kid will never be a part of this school.

By the time we reached home they had called the Principal of the preschool( the best one) and apologized for their behavior. The school my son attended mainly focuses on "CHARACTER  BUILDING". I don't think I have to write more as it is self explanatory.

Would not recommend this school to any of my friends, relatives, neighbors.

On reaching office later part of the day and going about our jobs(we recruit people to IT, BPO and pharma companies) the HR head who was conducting interview was discussing the bad attitude some candidates have towards their job. This got us into a conversation and  we discussed the similar issue we faced today in this school.

Bad attitude takes us no where.

They don't have IB certified teachers, their IB is for hyderabad, not yet for bangalore. Hidden fees, one day event for enquiry to admission they sell themselves by not allowing people to think and get back. Their marketing skills are cunning, it's a honey trap. Clues 1. Fix appointment, 2. Everything should be done in a day, 3. Get the kid otherwise we will not allow you to see the school, they target kids n in turn kids will make their job easy. This extreme marketing skills are borrowed from neighbouring city.

My son goes to class 1st inOakridge.
Benefits:
1. Campus is really good and well maintained
2. Enough attention is paid on safety and security of children
Big Problems:
1 Attitude of staff -Reception, Admin, Transportation -Not cooperative, behaves as Govt office. They will not reply to your query, you have to chase them to get the work done
2. Teachers -keep changing ( attrition is relatively high), Quality is not at par with other INt school.
3. Bus transport: During admission, they will promise so many things busdoesn'tcome to your house ( even though your road might be 60 Feet Road). driver/assistant are rude. You have to drop your kid quite far ( in the name of pick up point) to catch the bush. They have bought big buses ( I dont know who advised them -may be someone from BMTC!),these buses cant come inside colony, cant run as fast as small typical school buses can run, cant take turn etc. Transportation is a big pain.
4.They provide food at school: very average quality food.
Attitude : If you discuss with Principle/Staff about above problems, they might even tell you to buzz of and change the school.
Finally, it is not worth the money they are charging. I am looking for change this year.

Frankly speaking even I was quite surprised by negative responses. Our admission procedure was smooth sailing. Even we had issues regarding transportation but was resolved within no time. I have not had problems with administrative department till date. From our experience, teachers, headmistress and other staff are friendly and approachable. About the IB certification, it will be officially recognized by Oct 2015. I am part of the Parent Focus group, we had a meeting with IB consultant who had come to inspect and give the approval. All the initial stages are done, just the formality to be done.

Today I visited Oakridge International and here is my experience. I have a 3 year old daughter and my top priority was SAFETY. I visited schools like Inventure, Greenwood high and Oakridge (all recommended by friends)

I got most of the Information from the websites, when I looked into forums I got confused as there were a lot of mixed reviews about every school. So I decided to visit all the three schools and then decide. What I liked about Oakridge was, the way things were explained starting from curriculum difference to teaching method. Timing was a bit of concern for me as it is a full day school ( even for a 3 year old ) but after I spoke to their headmistress Ms. Boney I was convinced.

And talking about my top most concern SAFETY ( this is point why I decided to go ahead with Oakridge ) it was very well explained ( which I was not convinced about in other school ) and even physically shown to me how safety is important to them. Overall my experience was good and I decided to go ahead with Oakridge.

I agree it. It is a bad school. We have taken back after 2 year study. Inexperienced teacher and pricipal. they don't teach well. Bad management. High fee with 10% increase each year
