My kid is born in oct 2009.  He will be 2.7 by june 2012. For most of the good schools, his age does not meet their requirements. I have got application forms from couple of schools such as vagdevi, vibgyor etc where his age satisfies the school requirements.

I am in a confusion whether to put him in the nursery for the next year or not. He will be under-age in that case. If i wait for one more year then he will be over-age in his class. But in that case schools still consider him for nursery (as he will be over-age)?

I have seen other thread in the parentree where it is discussed about losing an academic year for october born kids.

Kindly suggest whether it will be good to put him in nursery or not. If any other parents are also in the same boat, please share your opinions and thoughts.

Hi ,

My daughter's is the same case. She is born in NOV 2009.

As a mother we are the only one who can decide on this. If you think that your kid can enjoy schooling at this early age then go ahead.

My daughter is going for playschool near by. I dont think there will be any difficulty for her as she got used to this. If your kid also goes for a playschool and if he enjoys it then there is no need for you to worry. If not try to put him in a good play school near by and let him get used to it. This will reduce the big task for you pending on the D-day :)

My son is sep 2009 born and I havent applied anywhere. I talked to many parents and they asked me to put in 2013 only, A parent whose son was sep born too could not cope up with prressure when in 1st std , so she is makin him repeat 1st std.

Again all this depends on personal decison/ I have decided to wait 1 more yr . Child should be mature and enjoy studies. Now he may have much older kids in place and he may be lagging

Thanks Lavu and DevD.

Yes right now he is going to a play school since last month.

In that case you will opt for nursery in 2013? One more thing do schools consider him for nursery as he will be over-age by then?

DEvD 2011-10-12 12:56:08

I have same fear as you. but what we can do if they dont  take them now. Also my child has just started speaking etc l am waiting for forms . i wll see what criteria they suggest. Vagdevi is too far for me,

My daughter is OCT 2009 born. She will be joining playschool coming month.I am not too sure as to what is the right age fr nursery. In case she covers nursery when she is 2.5 to 3.5.Then does she have to repeat the same when she joins a big school when she is 3.5yrs.Can anyone als suggest schools that have Nursery at 2.5 near HSR layout?

Please help.Thanks.

Karimulla 2011-10-12 16:42:46

Hi Aditi,

you can check gnan srishti school. I am not sure if other schools will take nursery at 2.5 yrs.

creativekids 2011-10-12 17:34:56

Ok. Its always better to be over-age than under-age. Thats because the kid should have the capacity to grasp the standards of a given class. What do you say?

AANIYA 2011-10-12 20:40:46

Hi All.

Thanks fr the reply.

So it is like they repeat nursery again when they are 3.5yrs in a big school. What i mean is pre-school followed by nursery in play school at 2.5-3.5.And in normal schools again nursery when 3.5 to 4.5.

Pls answer if i am getting it right or wrong. Thanks

My son is Oct 2008 born. I checked with NPS to see if they take him for LKG. Its clear NO. Today I had beento NHG, as per they age limit (3 yrs 8 months as of 1st june) and my son is short of 17 days. The front desk female told me to apply ... they should consider his applciation.

But as every other parents I am also confused !

I talked to Bala Vidya Mandir folks. They told me, according to CBSE standards, a kid should be 5 years if the kid should be admitted in 1st class. Which means

UKG = 4 years

LKG = 3 years

What do you mean by saying "nursery"? Do you mean LKG? or do you mean before LKG?

So your kid will be 2.7 by June 2012. Its better not to join the kid in LKG. She will be 5 months under age right ?

jaya06 2011-10-12 23:33:28

what is the age limit for LKG .any body has any idea plz let me know

jaya06 2011-10-12 23:35:53

my daughter is born on sep 2008 is she eligeable for LKGfor 2012-13

DEvD 2011-10-13 07:05:23

question is whether big schools will consider such kids at all. I guess if we have sep/oct kids, we cant get in NPS etc, is this so???

Karimulla 2011-10-13 12:01:25

Yes DevD even i too have the same question...

Creative kids,

Yes for some of the CBSE schools kid should be 5 years in 1 std. But in most of the schools they expect kid to be around 6 years in 1st std.

Gruha 2011-10-13 13:41:26

My daughter is born feb 2009 and now she is gng to playschool.

Most of the schools will join her in Nursery but not to LKG.

Please suggest????

 Dear friends,

NPS-DPS kind of schools are big..

In order to avoid more applications they r very strict in age....All other new schools and montessori school will not see the age. They want to increase their students strength. So they will not see age.

So it all depend on ur kid's grasping power..If he / She lags in picking up new things then better put him later in school (with elder kids)

Otherwise put them early in school (with younger kids)

My daugher is also Aug born. She is very fast in grasping So we put her ahead in school(searching for UKG admission)

Even i m Sep born and i was in LKG during 2.8...Whole in my life i was the youngest one in class..But i didn't face any pbms in studies.

All the best parents..No more confusion..
