my child has ADHD and on O.T etc, so improving ..

.therapists have recommended only regular school for him as she can follow instructions and can talk.

i would like to know which schools take kids of this the suberban chennai

also what kind of syallbus would suit ?

CBSE/STATE BOARD/IGCSE etc? (cbse has 3 launguages,state bd has only 2 launguages?

shoby 2012-09-26 10:39:57

u can consult ur dr., and based on their advice u can choose the school, bcos a school suited for my son didn't suit for another child so they changed.

find out the points which u shd' talk to  the school b4 joining, ur therapists can also suggest some schools-bcos he/she might get children from various schools,

if u could be more clear as ur place of stay and the period of ADHD, duration of therpy, it wud be better for others to reply u.

thanks for ur reply shobi

my dr has suggested a regular school

therapists have suggested schools in side the city

i live in perungudi .

my daughter is 5yrs ,doing ukg in a preschool now.

therapy is going on for 2 yrs now...

Have you checked out the schools in the OMR area like Gateway , headstart and APL global. Can your daughter understand instructions and has speech? If so there are plenty of schools inside the city, go for the ones who take lesser children in class- like bambino, vruksha montessori , st marks, harishree vidyalaya etc. Inclusive schools in the city are childrens garden, st ebbas.

I feel any board will suit the kid as long as the child is not low functioning. The easiest is the state board, but if you are not planning to settle here then go for cbse.

 hai brave,

reg syllabus, i don't think it matters if the school undersatnds ur kid, u can put in cbse/state board,

cbse-if u planning to move from chennai in future.

but most igcse, icse schools follow montessori method, u shd understad whether it will suit ur kid,

let me tell u from my exp.

my dr. said put ur kid in a regular school-not big brand name- with less no. of children in each class-teacher and school understands such kids and help them- the teacher shd be firm with the kid.

schools in omr like headstart, gateway, apl global take inclusion, u can go and meet them in person and then form ur opinion.

my son goes to san academy, they understand him but some ups and downs are there but  i'm quite happy with the school, but one of my kid's friend cudn't continue, the teacher found him very hyper so the kid joined a small school- state board-in velachery.

thanks shoby and NJ -

I m thinking of approaching gateway, hlc and apl global.

the admission and issue of forms will begin from nov 12.

i know a child from the locality admitted in apl ,easy track stream.

all the new schools with igcse are open to inclusive idea...infact they are proud of the fact.

but the old schools are conservative abt inclusion.(st ebbas and children garden are exceptions)

ideally i would prefer state

cbse is slightly tougher with 3 languages.

no idea abt igcse.

my child follows all the instructions ,can speak...

how is san academy? is it cbse? r they open to inclusion

what ur doc says is correct..not interested in big names (that are fussy too

brave 2012-09-27 11:43:12

i was told by a psychologist that montessori system

allows the child to move abt in class which would only make the kid  be "active or hyper active .'

..which in turn would affect class room sitting tolerance of the the long run...

shoby 2012-09-27 19:17:59

 hai brave,

i'm giving my opinions based on my exp.,

reg montessori,

i was of the thought that montessori wud help my kid to grow in a natural way, but after understanding the concept i felt it will not suit him as the teacher needs to be firm with him and little strict with him to get things done-this is not possible in montessori.

reg cbse/stateboard- i feel its the parents' choice, bcos my son will have to learn 3 lang only from 3 or 4 or 5 th class, till such time only 1 lang and eng.

my son's friend cudn't fit it the cbse school not bcos of syllabus, but bcos the teacher cudn't handle him, so he went to a small-christian mission-state board school where he did quite well.

reg san academy, they follow cbse curriculum, but yet to get the accredition, i wud suggest u can contact the school to find out if they are still open for inclusion.

shoby 2012-10-03 12:01:59

i'm not sure about vijayadasami admissions, but i think may be from nov or dec. i will find out and let u know, btw, for which class?

brave 2012-10-04 10:14:49

thanks , for first standard

aniv 2012-11-06 01:52:53

hi.I heard about lady andal school which has inclusive education.but very difficult to get admission there.have anyone tried.

sonsmom 2013-02-06 17:59:30

after reading the above posts i went to gateway the complete school. my kid is a gifted hyperactive kid. speaks and writes and follows instructions fully. he gave a damn good entrance exam. i declared in the form that the kid was a delayed speaker. they very sugar coatedly told me that our school teachers are not equipped to handle special kids and we used to earlier take kids but other kids and parents complain about the environment getting spoilt. so we have stopped taking kids with learning disability. their principal was outrightly rude abd said other kids will tease him and my teachers will not be able to control them. if they have an issue with a kid like mine who is already being going to normal school with a class strength of 50. fully independent kid then i doubt they will take anybody.

this is a feedback for all parents who are thinking of gateway for their kids. the psychologist will sugar coatedly tell you to go. and principal will rudely tell you the same thing as it affects their business.

i would recommend to record all these talk or get refusal in paper, CBSE board will cancel such school's accreditation

 Former member 2013-02-07 00:30:52

ASD kids fall in to underpriviledged group and are entitled to get seat in 25% reserved quota (with other underpriviledged groups of socirty), no school can refuse admission to any disabled child, let alone an ASD kid, school has to make special provisions including allowing facilitator or parent if a child can not focuss in class, plz be aware of ur rights, read rights of disabled kid  in RIGHT TO EDUCATION ACT

zumbaleena 2013-02-07 01:45:01

it is pathetic that people say such things....outright disgusting. the law is a fucking joke in India. if the teachers cannot deal with it, they should let atleast a shadow in. the child sounds so bright....why should he NOT get the admission? and the fricking NT parents....

sonsmom 2013-02-07 05:19:47

i offered them that i will sit with the kid for full 8 hours in school but mr henry says how many mothers can i allow in my school premises. school is for children not for mothers. he spoke to my son that why he wants to leave earlier school. kid responds "i dont like earlier school". mr principal tells him "that you will not like this school also coz kids will tease you". my son was badly disturbed with this.

wat do i do  by filing case against them. only media will get fodder to make fun of my fully recovered son in front of full india. i dont want the kid to remember any bad experiences in his later life.

if i forcefully get admission in school, the school will only mistreat him and beak his confidence.

Neethi 2013-02-07 08:31:55

Hi Sonsmom,

I really dont know what to say...Iam quite disturbed about ur experience in the school...The statement that "you will not like this school also coz kids will tease you". was something uncalled for......

I have only one question arising in my mind...If a child is having good academic knowledge..but lacks social language..where is the kid supposed to be in??..

Forget abt that damn school....Pls keep ur options open..iam v v sure you will find a school suiting ur needs...Not all schools are bad...People here in Parent tree have also been writing about the support they get frm the schools...The journey is tedious until you find one...Pls dont be disheartened..Its a part of our life and we have to put up with it.....There are so many kids who talk well, but are slow in writing..what abt them? They will outgrow it simply bcos they dont have any tag associated withthem????Lord..Pls open ur eyes..

@rh....Thank u so much for the mention of RTE..It just made my day......

sonsmom 2013-02-07 16:45:42

one gateway sent me to another gateway in neelankarai. the gateway american school. mrs. gracy alwyn the principal says the same "how dare you approach me with sp kid. other parents will complain. i have a school to run not a mental asylum".

that is education system in chennai.

sonsmom 2013-02-07 16:52:25

guys there are no inclusion schools in chennai. its a farce. some sp kids are there in all schools however they have entered at an early age of 2-3 years undetected. parents like us who shift from other places to get admissions in higher classes have no way. even therapists here live in la-la land. they themselves have no clue how can they help these kids.

when a high iq kid like mine has a problem. wat is the use if a toothless rte.

sarankwt 2013-02-07 21:34:56

Have you checked HLC International inKaranai, Chennai which is an inclusive school

sonsmom 2013-02-07 22:54:46

they on the phone itself told me not to come as there are no vacancies

NJ 2013-02-10 20:42:48

sonsmom, I m so sorry to hear about what abuses you had to hear from these people. I l wish that people who talk like this are somehow taught a lesson. What goes around always comes around.

I heard that harishree vikas started by the chettinad managementis is an inclusive school mainly started for the need of special is in Gandhinagar adyar. May god bless you and your kid dear. I hope that all goes well for you and your little one

sarankwt 2013-02-11 19:49:42

HLC- pl visit the school and meet the principal,

sonsmom 2013-02-11 22:07:13

went there. the admission cordinator even refuses to give me the admission form.

brave 2013-02-15 22:13:02

sonsmom - it is good that u shared ur experience here.

Mine too is not very encourging. i went to SAN academy...and they said very sweet no.

HLC got the application but didnt apply considering the distance.they have a waiting list.

though i went and saw these schools esp HLC and gateway and i seriously didnt try due

to following reasons

1 distance

2 if u send ur ward to these far off schools, then therapy ,extra curricular activites suffers.

as u said some schools take the kids unknowingly in lkg and parents manage somehow

with therapy etc.

but in higher classes ,it is tough

fighting with these so called inclusive schools will only tire us as it is our morale is down with kind hearted educationists like the ones u faced.

how dare he talks to ur he a man or some idiot...beast...

and as u rightly said " even if u take admsn in such schools post ur fight with them...whats the point?
