Hi,
For playing any instrument, it's better to wait till she turns 5 or 6 yrs. At 3, her motor skills are not fully developed and she wont have the stamina or the dexterity to play an instrument. esp string instruments have to be held in a particular position to play and 3 yr old will not be able to do so. By 5 or 6 yrs, the mathematical concepts are also introduced and she will benefit more while learning the notes, rhythm, tempo. But that doesn't mean you have to wait till 5 to introduce her to music. You could enroll her in any kids' music classes such as KinderMusik where the kids are taught the fundamentals of music such as rhythm, beats, pitch, tempo etc along with body movements and they teach in a fun way. play all types of music in CDs for her to listen. She could try her vocal skills too thro sing-along music, buy her the toy musical instrument set for her to experiment.
hi RoshMom, thanks.that was really informative.will surely buy her toy musical instruments..m sure she will appreciate:-) Tried searching for Kindermusik classes from their website, but they say nothing in Bangalore:-(
Will have to look out for something else.Want to send her to a good place, since that would kind of set the base for her future inclination..
ya..i came across this on further browsing..but HSR layout would be way too far for me..even if the place turns out to be good..so dropped the idea..will look for anything else locally..if you know anything in South blr, please let me know..
The right age is 5 or 6. But some kids do start learning at the age of 3 too. At this age, if they show their own interest, parents can encourage.
In kids below five yrs, the vocal cords are delicate. They cannot sing lower octave. If you force the kids to sing it may damage their vocal cords. or make their voice harsh. Their voices are usually very high pitched (around 6 sruti or A). If they are learning classical vocal they should be 8 yrs. For both boys and girls in the age group 8-12 yrs the pitch would be similar. After 14 yrs boys may have voice break etc. so they have to wait for a couple of years before they can resume singing.
