Update Post, 11/19, 5:00 AM, PST

Dear Parent Bloggers,

It has been a while since we last posted and responded to some of your queries and comments below. Here is a quick response:

  • Feedback after a year – There's no change in our thoughts for the School since we first admitted our kids here. If anything, the appreciation has only grown.

  • Hindi for returning kids – Our son picked up Hindi from scratch in less than a year’s time. His Hindi teacher Vani in Grade-4 was pure excellence. He learned akshar-mala, started to make sentences, read chapters, comprehend, answer questions and write letters and small essays.
  • Most Recent – We relocated back to US about 2 months back. Our son adjusted well but our daughter keeps insisting on going back to Manthan and times cries for her teachers and friends. She misses her library, her cafeteria, her dance room and almost everything. Childs eyes seldom lie.

If you're looking for a school with a modern management and non commercial approach in Hyderabad, Manthan should be on top of your list.

Feel free to write to us and we will respond to your queries or help you connect to other parents who can share more insightful and recent update.

===============================================================

Dear Friends,

We are posting this message for benefit of parents like us, who have recently relocated to Hyderabad and are struggling with mid-term admission for their kids.

  1. Location - This school works best for parents in the Hi-Tec City area of Madhapur, Kondapur, Whitefields, Gachibowli, Kavuri Hills and the surrounding localities. New 5 acre campus in Gachibowli-Tellapur is expected to be operational from 2012 session.
  2. Admission Fee - Is pretty reasonable and not like some of the other schools in the near vicinity. We surveyed 20+ schools before getting our kids admitted. While the likes of Chirec, BVB and DPS outrightly denied mid-term admission, most of the others have fee and deposits in range of 50+. http://manthanschool.org/feestructure.html
  3. Management - We interacted with previous School Principal and School Director, who came out out rightly honest on the positives, the areas they are lacking and the future plans.
  4. School Premises - School is operating from their first campus at Ayappa Society Main Road, Madhapur. It's a 5 floor building with classes till 7th grade. It is very neatly made and everything is well organized. The play-area is small but is functional. There's a certain degree of sophestication and detailing about everything around (however this is a new campus, not even 6 months old).
  5. Canteen - It has fully functional canteen which serves breakfast, lunch and snack, so need to pack or provision for any lunch boxes. This is something not unique as most of the schools today have this provision.
  6. Classes - Each class is equipped with Projector, White-Board, Digital-Stylus and a computer. There's a portal detailing daily subject wise coverage, homework and progress. It is not great but functional and serves well for those who have limited opportunity to interact with teachers during work hours. Classes are air-conditioned (lept switched off in rainy and winter seasons).
  7. Quality - The school is not CBSE / ICSE affiliated. It has Cambridge certification instead. The course coordinator is an excellent lady (do not remember name). If you go for admission, do make it a point to meet her. The education is similar to US pattern and the emphasis is on understanding the subject and not blindly mugging up chapters. Kids like majority of their classes while struggling for few.
  8. Bus - School has air-conditioned mini-vans which ply the major routes in Hi-Tec city area. We are at L&T Serene County in Gachibowli and now there are 6 kids going from our location.
  9. Final Comments & Complaints -
    • There's a lot to expect on course coverage by the teachers and our vote is average to good but not excellent. At times you may not have net access available at home and having a diary will have. Our kids were last in NY and had an excellent school portal with curriculum, course content, homework details, school activities and had to maintain a diary religiously. We note that the student-parent portal is free for this year and will be charged from next year onwards.
    • There's no school diary, kids do not note homework as everything is said to be posted on portal. However many a times, it's not mentioned clearly and we are not well aware of the homework and effort required by kids at home.
    • Kids relocating from other geographies require extra help with Hindi / Telugu and Social Studies. It will help to see a concentrated and planned effort from teachers in this direction.

Overall, we feel good about the decision of getting our kids admitted here and recommend it to other parents. School Director, Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy is an IIM-A graduate and comes out pretty down-to-earth and honest about his intentions and dedication to education with a difference. Try and meet him during your visit to School.

Cheers,
Seema & Atul

Hi all, Just wanted to share my feedback on Manthan. Admitted my two kids at the beginning of the academic year 2012/2013 (2nd and 4th grades). I am pretty happy with the progress the kids are making and the attention they are getting. Basically the I feel the management understands what it takes to impart education. One of the negatives is that despite promises to open new campus nothing much happened (new campus is supposed to be open by now but they didn't even get started).

Hi Seema, Your blog has been very informative and gives a good insight about the Manthan school. I just need one information about the curriculum. Is Manthan a CBSE school? Their website does say that it is a cbse school with CIE framework. We are planing to r2i next year and My daughter would be joining in 3rd grade next year. And I am looking for cbse schools with not much of stress for the kids so that the transition would be smooth. Any pointers in this regard would be helpful. Subha.

Hi Guys, We have done a lot of research and finally joined my 3 kids in Manthan International. No regrets so far. The kids liked the school and the environment is very much the same as their old school in the UK. Nice to see that Atul and Seema has shared their experience on the net. We are from the UK and now settled in Aparna Sarovar. Am still working in the UK though for 4 more months. My two daughters joined Year 3 and Year 4 and my son joined Euro Junior (UKG). Also, my wife Samyukta has joined the school as a teaching assistant for Year 1. Please meet her if possible. Cheers Martin Bollarapu

Hi Seema, I am Rachana residing in US(NJ) and will be moving to Hyd. in Sept-Oct 2011. I was going thru the reviews about schools and liked your input about Manthan. My son is presently in 2nd grade. Will he be able to get admission in 3rd grade in Sept. I have inquired the school and they have asked to block a seat for him. Is this needed? Also, he doesn't know writing/reading Hindi. Will this be a problem? I can of course teach him the basics at home. Your input is greatly appreciated (rawat_rachana@hotmail.com) We'll be staying in Gachibowli area so I hope the school commute isn't much. Thank you, Rachana Rawat.

Hi Seema & Atul - Last week my daughter did step into PP-II class for orientation, she will be joining PP-II from June onwards. Manthan seems to be a school with a positive difference, I do hope the same is kept up. Also I hope our paths cross at the School to enable me to thank you in person. Best, Seema

Hi Seema & Atul - I am glad state that I have admitted my daughter to Manthan last week and the entire process was smooth. Just wanted to clarify that the school is proposing to obtain CBSE affiliation as soon as it starts it 8th grade but the teaching method would be cambridge style. Best, Esquire.

Satyasanthi, Lack of activities at MVM should not be the only criteria for change of school. Look at it from all other angles like teachers to kids ratio, management, relationship with teachers, responsiveness of the staff and management and overall studies (which you tell is good). We are personally satisfied with Manthan on account of all above. The school is going to move into a bigger larger campus in 2012 which will take care of our another major expectation as our kids grow and ready to get into competing social and sporting activities with other schools in the region. We suggest that you take a tour of Manthan or any other school of choice, talk to few more parents like us, talk to the management and then decide on a change. Best Wishes, Seema & Atul

Hi Esquire, Our feedback is still positive specially for PPII. Our daughter is currently in PPII and her teacher (Ms.Huda) is really good. The timing for pre-primary is from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. The timing is long for small kids but slowly they adjust. One of our friends had put their kids in Sentia School last year when they came back from USA. They were not happy and have now taken out their kids and considering Manthan Intl. Seema & Atul
