Short answer: Stay away from paint fumes during pregnancy.

Unfortunately, there are no medical studies that show that house-paint exposure can have adverse effects on pregnant women and their babies Currently, the assumption is that household paints involves very low levels of exposure.

However, exposure to lead paint can cause potential lead poisoning. See our article on lead poisoning. Many Indian paints contain dangerous levels of lead.

To be safe it is best to postpone painting or go away somewhere else while the house is being painted. After painting, before you move in, make sure that the house has been well ventilated.
