Being a mom takes a lot of work, energy and stamina. Taking care of children, husband, family, the home and in many cases going to work outside can make a mom very tired. But how do you tackle it and still feel like you want to keep going, at the end of the day? Here are some tips to increase your energy and stamina.
Often meals like breakfast, lunch or dinner are skipped or eaten at odd times or just gulped down by moms who are busy. Often moms end up eating too much or too little, because the meals are at odd times. Eating at the right times helps you eat the right quantities of food, which in turn provides the required energy at the required times.
If you find yourself hungry when on the run, don't hesitate to grab a snack. You don't have to wait till a meal time. Just make sure it is something healthy, like a banana, a fruit, a handful of nuts or raisins etc., Remember to keep these handy. They will give a quick energy boost and will ensure you do not go into your next meal too hungry.
If you sleep in the afternoons, avoid taking a long rest and instead take a power nap. Set the alarm for anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes, before you sleep. A power nap can leave you more energetic while a long sleep can leave you more tired.
Try to get to bed by at least 11 PM and get 7-8 hours of sleep. Staying up too late forces you to keep using your energy and stamina going into the night, at a time when the body naturally wants to rest. Also waking up early in the morning can give you some time to yourself.
There is no better way to increase your stamina than exercise. Join a local health club or walk around your neighbourhood or climb up and down your building's stairs. Try to get about 30 minutes of vigorous physical activity about 4 to 5 times a week. One of the advantages of going to bed early and getting up early is that you will have time in the morning to do this.
Yoga is a very simple way to boost your stamina. The stretching exercises in yoga will leave you flexible and energetic. The exercises do not have to be the complicated poses. You can learn the "surya namaskar" and do only that for 20 to 30 minutes in the morning.
Make sure you stay well hydrated throughout the day.
Meditation, where you close your eyes and let your mind relax can be a great way to clear your mind and boost your body energy. If you cannot meditate because you are at work, find a corner of the office or a window or a lounge where you can just sit or stand quietly or just read the paper.
Get some time for yourself, where you can focus on something you like. It can be a hobby or you could go and get a massage or manicure. The idea is to set aside daily worries and feel good about yourself. This can be an automatic stamina booster for any mom.
It is inevitable that we spend less time with friends after becoming moms. But friendships and time spent with friends are a sure fire way to you take the focus away from the dozens of chores and tasks you have. Friends are a simple way to boost your zest. Stay in touch and make it a point to spend time with them.
We are moms. Not perfect. Don't worry about getting every little thing done perfectly. Sometimes you just have to let it go and reduce the stress. Focus on the most important things, plan how to get them done and don't sweat the small stuff.
