During pregnancy, increased protein consumption is very important for Indian mothers. Proteins are an important material used to build the home for the baby including the amnion, yolk sac, and placenta. Proteins are also the critical elements used in the growth of the baby inside you.
Normally, average Indian women (weighting 50kg) need about 65 grams of protein per day during pregnancy. If you weigh more than 50kg, add one extra gram of protein/day for each kg of weight above 50.
This is for normal single pregnancies. If you are carrying twins, or have other complications, please check with your doctor.
