Bringing up children in this generation has a new dimension. Let me first explain about Meme. Meme is Brain virus. As our Brain works like a computer it is susceptible to virus like Computer. What is meme? Let us first understand Replicators. Carbon Hydrogen Oxygen when combined in unique form (Gene) gets life and can replicate itself. This process started as unicellular and morphed into multi cellular bodies and then into Plants and then animals and finally as Man. Suddenly another set of replicators started coming called memes. You can call it idea. This concept is introduced by Dr Dawkins and her student Dr. Susan Blackmore had detailed in book called Meme machine. She says our consciousness itself is coming due to these memes. In initial stages it was sub servant to gene and children adopted what their parents/ society wanted them to be. But suddenly due to technology the children are being bombarded by lateral memes. Such as TV etc. Many a times you will find the children will behave as adolescent by 7 years instead of waiting till teenage. They can look through the parents’ perspective easily and rebel firmly by tender age itself. I request you to go through the synopsis or better still the original book itself. I will be writing more on this. How this works can be explained in one form. A bunch of Gene is called chromosome and a bunch of meme is called religion. Dawkins says that gene is selfish. An does not serve the carrier. Similarly memes are also selfish, and they do not serve the master instead kill them to establish itself like in religious wars etc. western idea of small family has actually killed the Whiteman’s gene itself. The problem I have introduced in this blog is the effect of lateral memes. More to follow!
