Talk of our gang-of-moms waiting outside school. We were impressed with how the teacher handled this situation and the mom too. I thought I got pointers for how to deal with scary hairy situations like this for the future...
This friend told us that her second grade daughter one day very proudly said that she knows a big word i.e. “f” word which is a rude word that her friends were using in school...my friend said that her heart missed a beat but she continued being calm and gently prodded her daughter to tell more.
Just to give some context: The school our kids go to is NOT one of the wilder schools and is pretty low-key in this department (at least that is what we think).
Anyway, apparently some kid who has an older sibling had used this word "f... off" in class and a few started using it or something. They did not know the meaning (thank goodness!) but were just using the term and the teacher overheard and calmly told them that it is a rude and bad word and is not polite and it means and implies “go to hell”..it should not be used...
I thought the teacher had handled this well. She had been calm, firm and had explained what the term really implied in the context it was used. Did not unnecessarily get the kids all worked up or curious way before they needed to.
Don’t you think?
