hi,

You can make newspaper reeds and twine a basket out of it. For strength coat it with varnish :). Take my word, it will look amazing. You can color it with acrylic paint and then apply varnish as well.

Here is one more craft you can make with just a milk carton, chunky woolen yarn and glue. - Flower vase.. All you have to do is cut some woolen yarns of length longer than the milk carton's height. Apply glue on the sides and Keep sticking the yarn on the sides of the milk carton from the bottom to the top and fold the extra yarn inside and stick them. apply glue only in a smaller portion and keep sticking the yarn closely without any space in between. if you don't get chunky wool, fold the worsted wool into 2 and twist it and stick it.  here is the picture of the vase i made.

one more point to add. To keep the vase from falling, put the flowers in a bottle (e.g coca cola bottle) and keep the bottel inside the carton.

Thanks Mridula..

Hi Ramya, It need not be a milk carton. you can make use of any container to stick the yarn and make a flower vase. For example you can use 2 bottles of different sizes  and wind some thin snythetic rope and also stick shells or buttons to make a pen stand or a flower vase. Before making the flower vase, clean the surface of the bottle and wipe it clean. Apply super glues to a smaller region and wind the rope.  While winding the rope after 3 or 4 rounds, use few small headed pins around the circle at some regular interval of length to keep the rope intact. Use super glue like quick fix to stick the rope on the bottle.  here is the vase you can try..

Happy I could help  !

The crafts that have been made with paper bags are actually hand puppets.

I've noticed paper plates are a great base for craft for kids. As in the pictures...they can be used to make just about any animal...i've used them for grouping: barn animals, wild animals, etc.

Hi Mridula, At last we tried the paper reed basket. Just loved the way it turned out though we made the basket with paper from magazines. So didn't require any varnish.. Both my son and I enjoyed doing it. Thanks for the idea. Here it is..

Hi, I have taken handprints of my twin boys in a photo sheet. I want to hang it in their room. I am not interested to frame it just like that.

Any innovative or creative ideas for the same. Can I laminate and decorate with beads, flowers, laces etc?  Will it be durable for years? Will it stay stable on th wall?

Pls suggest????????

Hi,

Try framing the handprints with the cardboards from the storage box (stoarge cartons)which has crimps in between the layers. Cut 1.5 inch of 6 carboard strips and place them in layers (you may choose to use 3 to 5 layers depending on the thickness of the cardboard) to make the frame. Ensure the crimps are seen from the sides of the frames. Use a rectangular sheet of cardboard for placing the hand prints and glue the multilayered frame on the sides of the rectangular cardboard sheet. For the outermost layer of the frame, use the middle layer that has the crimps for which you have to carefully peel off the upper layer. Trust me, it gives a lovely antique look. Probably you can try a rough version before you go for the actual one.

The author Kathy Ross has written about 100 or 150 kids crafts books based on the seasons, festival, country, material used, gender etc.. You can choose any of them for that age.
