Hi! I have a 7 yr old son who is mild autistic and ADHD disorder which lead to speech problem as well.Need help with it.

He'z going to a small school nearby and has improved a lot since. He is in 1st standard now.As the school is only till 1st standard.

Cud anyone suggest a good school for him in Secunderabad area?Good school where his skills and abilities are observed ,nourished and developed and eventually reduce his ADHA disorder gradually.

In last 2 yrs he has improved a lot but i want him to be as social and expressive as possible. My mother tongue is Telugu. But he finds English language much easier to communicate.I guess its the case with almost every autistic child,if i'm not mistaken. He doesn't speak full sentences though, just bits of words which i join to understand them.

Any parent who are in my position and got help plz by any means could plz share ur details, really appreciate it.

Any suggestions from professionals are most welcomed.I'll be really obliged.

thanks in advance

waiting for ur replies eagerly

Madhuri

Hi Madhuri,

Geetanjali public school in begumpet has special educators in their school who can help the child with their regular studies. You can also check with the people at Shradda school in begumpet who deal with special kids.

one more thing have you ever tried occupational theraphy and speech therapy for your child ???... They really help....

Hi madhuri and subhara,

My kid who is with mild autism has thoroughly improved with occupational therapy. It is a kind of physical and brain excercise for the kids. If you havent tried this before,  i strongly recommend you to take your kid for this theraphy. You can see  a remarkable change in their behavior.

There is one theraphy centre at yousufguda held by Ms.Ranjita, and they charge 300 per session. I will send her phone number  to your inbox if you are interested.

Do check abt this with your doctor

Good luck

Hi Vjo,

I would like to know the information regarding the occupational therapy.

We live in Mehdipatnam and I've a 9yr old daughter who has weakness on her right side. Heard occupational therapy will be useful.

Is it a long term therapy? How long did you take your child there?  Is it a one-on-one session or group therapy?

Please give me their timings and address with phone number if possible.

Any info you give wud be valuable.

Thanks a ton,

jaya

thanks for the reply.

when you say GFCF i understand it is Gluten free (like wheat) and Casein free (milk etc).  When you cut down milk how do you substitute for calcium.

Is other form like curd/buttermilk/paneer/cheese which are derivatives of Milk OK to be given.

@Vjo, did you also follow a gfcf diet.. How long had you been giving OT for your kid and from when did you start noticing the visible change. Is he/she able speak and communicate adequately and how do they mix with other kids? Do they do on their own or should we Prod them to do so.

Thanks to all for sharing the details

bsubhadra,

How long has the doctor asked your child to be on this diet. Also how much amount of ragi do you give your child per day? How do you make the porridge- is it with palm jaggery, coconut milk, sugarcane jaggery or sugar? Are you consulting a nutritionist for this diet or a homeo doctor?

hi NJ,

For atleast 6 months we hve to keep the kid on strict diet.then we can add the restricted food one by one on doctor's suggestion.even to add the new item there must be 15 to 30 days gap shuold be there .For raagi we mix only salt n water(because my kid is on no sugar diet). After 6 months we can give jaggery.i am not consulting nutritionist or homeo doctor.my son is studying in school Saandeepani(run by doctor laxmi prasanna)..so they tell us abt diet and all.

bsubhadra and all,

When i checked with the Dr. whom i am consulting about the diet restriction, she said not need of any restrictioin in diet. I just made my question sound casually like can we give milk, sugar... She said limit sugar, milk can be given.

Infact in her report she had written Normal but asked to give OT and language simulation at home but had prescribed 2 meds also (which for now i had decided not to give)

The prob with my daughter (2.10 yrs) is she is very reserved at school (goes to play school), does not mingle with kids, she has poor eye contact (sometimes deliberately avoids).

She is framing sentences but it is in wrong form (mostly like questions and referring as only her instead of distinguishing b/w ME/you (ie 1st/2nd person etc). She is also Hyper. But she has learnt everything that is taught in her play school. Though she doesnt open her mouth ther for Rhymes etc

Giving her OT for past 2 months. Just started on Group OT also. So how do we gauge the effectiveness of OT. Her hyper has reduced a bit but there is lot of self talking and Echolalia (immediate echoloalia most of the time)

hi viji,

Is ur daughter autistic?my son is an autistic child. For autism diet is the first n main thing to consider.i went to NIMH ,there they said CFGF/NO SUGAR/NO FRUIT(only 3 fruits can be given guava, papaya, sapota).without any therapy he improved a lot.his speech is also improved n he is just like ur kid in speech now.b'coz she has mild autism, she can learn the things in play school.my son also  a quick learner.but behavour n communication r main thingsfor these kids...they learn slowly.OT helps alot n in my son's school they r giving this therapy.one more thing do u know telugu?

hi...Casein & gluten diets and other elimination diets will only work for children who have a sensitivity or truly allergic to a specific element.

most of the children with autism are sensitive to these elements...as one of the parent suggested, along with the diet a child needs regular speech-language-auditory  therapy and occupational therapy aswell....thanks

Here is my experience with the school with a child with special needs, I live in bangalore, my son goes to a school "geethanjali montesorri", when we enrolled the kid we had clearly written he has autism ( high functioning) and the principal said they have experience in dealing with special child, this is a integrated school. We paid extra fees, and so on, 6 months down the line, son cries everyday going into the school which is a big red flag, talked to the teacher she says how can I teach him before he starts talking, autism causes communication/social delays in the child, my son barely has 10 meaningful words he talks right now, there are so many non verbal communication going on with the kids, the teacher ofcourse is not trained to deal with special children. So I am worried right now. I have heard from another parent in the forum Bethany in kormangla, baldwin special school, asha kiran kendra , sophias near high grouds are all good special schools in bangalore, but we have decided to hang in their for now.
