Homeopathy experience? - Page 1

Hi,

We keep hearing about the popularity and effectiveness of homeopathy. Has anyone had any direct experience with it for children?

Yes Sathya, i've experienced homeopathy both for my children and as a child myself. While it isn't something that gives immediate results like bring down high fever immediately like a crocin, for chronic troubles its a very apt way. You see homeopathy treats symptoms, not disease, plus sometimes some problem may flare up more before it subsides, which can cause a lot of angst.

Overall for things like skin troubles, persistent allergies etc..homeopathy sure has more to offer than allopathic medication.

For growing up kids who are very prone to throat infections, one really effective medicine is an ayurvedic medicine called Septilin. My elder one used to be down with throat infection and high fever like once every month. Giving him this medicine over a long period of time, actually built up his resistance to throat infections tremendously. It is available both as a syrup and in tablet form. Ofcourse it has to be given like for two to three months....but its really worth it. I've introduced almost every child and adult i know to this and all of them have been helped by it.

There's a related aspect of homeopathic medicines called biochemic medicine, these are almost like your mineral supplements...they have some very effective combinations containing calcium etc useful for teething kids.

The biggest benefit of homeopathic and biochemic medicine are that they are given as sweet white pills. Anyone administering them will not face the problem of a child reluctant to take his medicine.

One word of caution, some murmurings have been heard about certain well known big homeopaths giving medicines, especially related to skin diseases and allergies, laced with steroids...so go to very very trusted homeopaths, when you must!

My daughter used to get severe wheezing almost twice every month and I've had to nebulize her several times. However, once I started her on homoeo, she's had no wheezing episodes and though it does not give instant relief, her homoeo meds are able to control her cough and cold pretty well.

Like the previous person said, though, do go to a really trusted homoeopath.

I have a homeopath practising in the family and have had excellent results.  I know there are a lot of doubts about methodology, and that it is a placebo, etc.  As a scientific person, I feel that what we have understood about our body is still a miniscule percentage of what actually happens there.  Given this limitation, I have this to say :  having looked at fda reports, I know for a fact that most of the allopathic drugs also work by 'Unknown mechanism'.  So, this allegation on methedology does not make sense.  And as for placebo, if you are seeing an effect and still feel it was a placebo, what do you lose?  The only thing I was worried about is the content of the dose - it is so mild (diluted to so many powers ) and nothing of the kind of steroids.   So, that is also settled.  You are not loading your body with some big chemical with unknown side effects or going for intrusive surgery and still seeing some effects! 

I think there has to be a paradigm shift in our approach to these things.  Having experienced the beneficial effects of some alternative therapies like acupressure/acupuncture, I feel all the more humble about what we understand about our body and the universe.  Apparently, many of these alternative methods work in quantum level and so, may be beyond our comprehension. 

Finally, even in this day of modern medicine, faith plays a part, esp with approaches like homeopathy.  May be, it is to do with the fact as to how much faith you have in your doctor to confide all your symptoms, or how strict you are about the regimen.  Remember that Homeopathy treatment heavily relies on the symptoms and hence the patient needs to explain things clearly to the doctor; as well as follow certain other simple regimen.

Sorry for the long post.  But the long and short of it is, go for it if allopathy did not work and go for it with an open mind and to a practioner whom you trust.

Hi... I would like to say  a few about biochemic medicenes too... also called biochemic salts... these meds build up a very very good resistance power in children over a period of time... inturn children wudn't get affected with common cold/ cough that easily even when exposed to these unstable weather conditions

My dad has been practicing homeopathy since many years... and we have all been benefitted well by these meds for almost all the probs we faced.

FYI: Homeopathy and Ayurveda are similar in a way that both use herbs/plants to make their meds. The only difference between the two types is that... ayurvedic meds are given almost in the raw form or thru extracts  where as in homeopathy, the plants/ flowers/ herbs are potentised in a diluted alcoholic base and the meds are prepared thus... which may be the reason for its power to "cure quick"

Suggestion: Homeopathic meds work very fast when it comes to curing the patient.. however...an important factor to be remembered is that not all homeopaths have the power to diagonise the problem. Once the homeo doc knows what the exact problem is... he would be able to cure it from the root.... ( quickly too)

Hence I would suggest ...please get the problem diagonised by your general physician and then go to a homeo doc for medicenes and tell him ALL the symptoms experinced by you... since homeopathy concentrates on symptoms.

i thought i'd share a simple remedy that helps wheezing in a big way....put desi ghee(of cow's milk) in the nostrils with a dropper like nasal drops...it should be in the molten state, but not hot! Put every night.

This helps not just children but also adults, especially when one is likely to be exposed to dust, this is a great way to gaurd against allergies. People often go for hikes etc, but the pollen troubles them....about 6-10 drops of desi ghee in each nostril before heading out is a great protection. Helps in case you have carpentry or construction work happening at home too!

This method was taught by a teacher of Yog.

my 1.3 years old son catches cold very frequently.we take a lot of care to avoid cold and cough, but every month he gets running nose and chest congestion.

m in bangalore..have been to few homeo docs here, but none of them were good..one gave a sedative for my son's stomach ache, while other gave 10-12 medicines together saying "homeopathy ma, u can have as much as u want". the problem with many docs is that they just give u some powders/tablets without telling u the names. u never know what exactly they are giving

i am from bihar, and there is a very good homeopath there. last time i went there, i showed my son to him and the medicines were really effective. then i learnt some first aid in homeo from him. he gave me a list of problems-medicines-dosage and i bought the medicines from SBL. now when anyone in the family has cold/cough/gas kinda small prob, i usually refer to the list and give medicines.

however, if the problem persists beyond 2-3 days, we go our regular doc at apollo.

I'd like to share me experiences as I went to homeopathy after a lot of thought. My son was very prone to colds and coughs and when he got them, he was quite bad....we had to resort to antibiotics atleast once or twice a month as nothing else seemed to help so much. This was after all the home remedies that I tried and gave up on.....and i hated the idea of giving him antibiotics.....so when a friend suggested homeopathy, i thought a lot about it and then decided to give it a try. I must say i was very skeptical and am still not convinced 100 percent, but it has produced results over the last 4-5mths. The frequency of his colds and coughs came down and now, even when others around him have a cold or cough, he doesn't pick it up so quickly......so we are still giving the homeo medicines to him....but the things that still worry me about it are:

• no names and prescriptions are given - so we don't know what we are giving actually
• although there is this dilution process, I am a bit worried about the content and source of the medicines

Just as u said,even my doc doesnt give names n just gives pills or powders, however he's always assured that he doesnt use steroids or any thing that wud harm the kid. and so far i've only seen excellent results, with my son, when he cudnt be cured by allopathy with sever bouts of cold n cough, the pediatrition said he's suffering from childhood asthama, but when we went to this doc, he said theres nothing like it, n my son's got a lot better , with hardly any bouts now.

Also since u mentioned that u know some meds from homeo doc, (list of problems-medicines-dosage, ) cud u share them wid me pls?

hey just to add, my homeopathy doc has also put up a board at his clinic saying they can completely cure  swine flu, without any issues..

Ayurveda helps and works! At my home and  with my kid! I also have tried Homeopathy. It has helped my kid overcome a few common ailments. When it's an acute illness, I've resorted to Allopathy!

sorry for the delayed response..my net connection was down fr so many days..add me as a friend and send me yr email id too. i do not know a good homeo doc in b'lore..have been to a few but they were simply useless..didnt want to go to batras or bakson for day-to-day problems..like i have mentioned in my previous posts, i have taken help from a homeopath from my native place. he has given me a list of first aid. i generally resort to it and it helps..when the problem is severe or doesnt get better after 2-3 days, i resort to allopathy(my apollo doc has given me a list of medicines to be given, to save hospital trips). if u want, i can send u the homeo file.

by the way, for general strength and resistance, u can give alpha-alpha tonic to yr daughter..it is a good medicine esp when children face loss of appetite.

where do u stay in bangalore? i stay in bilekahalli..moving to belandur next week.

I can vouch for its effectiveness. Have successfully been using it to treat my kids aged 6 & 3, in both treating illness and building immunity. But you need to identify a good doc - that really is critical.

I stay on Old Madras road....I basically wanna consult some good homeo doctor to help improve my daughter's night sleep......she is EXTREMELY restless thru the night.....and hardly gets an hour or two of undisturbed sleep......!!After that she is wriggling and moving around the whole night......this has been going on for almost 3-4 months now....!!!

ya the alpha alpha tonic can be given to 14month olds.

coming to restlessness during nights, it can be very much due to intestinal worms. these worms itch more when children sleep, resulting into restlessness, waking up, crying. as it is, u should deworm yr child every month, with homeopathy.

another possible reasons of restlessness could be gas/ uncomfortable night dress, mites in pillows (resulting into headaches, sneezing, coughing etc)/ uncomfortable temperature of the room(we mothers tend to put lots of clothes to avoid cold while sleeping, while some children can sleep better only when its slightly cool), /style of sleeping, (some children like to snuggle, while some prefer lots of space around) /some emotional stress(weaning in process, separation anxiety, stranger anxiety etc)/ body pain/ stuffy nose

so try and change the present things and her sleep may get better..my son had similar problem when he was 1 year old. we took him to a homeo doc on recommendation of a good allopath. the homeo doc gave 10-12 medicines at the same time saying' homeo ma, no problem in giving many'. she didnt tell us names of the medicines either. my son started sleeping very well at nights. soon we found out that she had given sedatives. we have had similar experiences with 3 different homeo docs here. so now we are very wary of going to new one..

i started 'goodnight routine' with my son, that helped a lot.. l gave him 1 hour to unwind before actually putting him to sleep. that unwinding would include putting back toys, saying good night to everyone, telling all toys that we would play again the next day(believe me, this reassures children a lot), a quick bath, lavender-oil massage(lavender oil is very good for relaxing a child), drinking milk, reading story together, singing lullaby while rocking him on my lap. he would doze off to sleep..and thankfully, now he doesnt have sleep problems per se. he wakes up only when he is not well.

dont worry, she will be fine..(pssst..catch up on yr sleep when yr daughter sleeps during the daytime)

Thanks Aanchal...will try that deworming medicine....since am quite sure it is not any of the other reasons.......!! She actually needs a lot of space to move around in her sleep in the night....and I am quite wary throughout the night that she will have fall off the mattress (I have actually put a floor level mattress), onto the ground..!!

And wrt to catching up on some sleep, am afraid I cant do that cos i am away in office when she is sleeping at home during the day....so am actually waiting for that day when I will start having an undisturbed night's sleep with my little one !!!
