Hi All,
My 4 yrs daughter has fancy dress competition in her school. The theme is "Save Environment" and we are not supposed to hire ready made fancy dress garments or use thermocol.
We thought of making her tree which is simpler one but also very common, so i guess most of them will go for that. Any other ideas for her would be apprciated.
Thanks

Hi Gauri,
if you aren't too pressed for time, try making her a pin-up frock from cabbage/cauliflower leaves. Or you can use some longish leaves (like those from a cannah) to make a skirt. You can use toothpicks to keep them in place.
You can also thread together peas/corn to gives her a 'bead chain', 'bracelest' and 'anklets'.
These are just the first things that cam to my head...will write back if I get any more, if you want that is . When exactly is the event?

Hi Gauri, some ideas,
1. Dress up in paper with good notes - plastic not allowed, recycle of paper, etc
2. Dress her up in dustbin on both side - one side wet garbage and other side use me dry garbage
3. Have full body suit with recyclable items all over like paper, plastic bottles, cardboard, canes, etc
4. Make a cloud with cotton or thermocol and show it is crying
I hope this helps you

Option 1: Make a RECYCLABLE trash can for her - A square green chart paper that goes around her with straps to hold it up on her. Mark it with white paper / paint 'recyclable' sign - A triangle with the 3 arrows. Add in pictures of the items for recycling: Cans, Plastic bottles, Newspaper pile etc. Option 2: Use brown paper to make a similar dress as above. One side should say use me more often. Attach plastic bag on the other side saying 'reuse me'. Add a third Canvas/ Hopsack bag - saying 'use me instead' Option 3: Make her into a CFL bulb. And speak on the topic. CFL bulb can be done by sketching it on paper front and back or attach the CFL bulb box. To speak on the subject: http://www.parentree.in/groupdiscussion-3755/Lets-Form--A-Friendship-Bond/page279.html

If your daughter is good at singing or can pick-up a song quickly, you could get her to learn song listed 30 or 31 on this blog and she could sing it with her 'outfit'. Raffi (the singer here) is very popular with most teachers. Her presentation will be remembered. Trust me! Step 1: http://www.roses-mamamagic.blogspot.com/ Step 2: Go to the blog I've posted today - April 20th.... Inspirational songs to build character and values- Classics and more recent ones: Keep Them Busy: 6th of the series Step 3: There are 35 songs listed. The ones that are on environment are no. 30 & 31. I strongly recommend no. 31. Good Luck!

There are two more songs that you can refer to on this.
No. 32 is a great option...easy to bring home the message: http://www.parentree.in/ext.php?id=8683 No 32. Sustainability: Raffi: No 33. Cool It: Raffi:
