My baby will be completing 11 months this week. She is a very active child.
I am a working mohter and my baby is taken care by my in-laws. She doesn't
sit at a single place and keeps walking all around the house.
She is used to all ppl in the house and enjoys very well when everyone is tehre at home
She gets bored very quickly and we have to do something to entertain her.
I am a bit worried as to how can i travel with her since she doesnt like to sit in
a place. Can anyone suggest me how do I overcome this? Is this a symptom of ADHD?
Also she suffers from indigestion frequently. Is there any permanent solution for this?

Hi Sarah,
What do you really mean by active? Has your daughter started walking? If yes then it's quiet natural for the babies who have started walking to run and explore. At this age your child will be trying to explore things by touching, pulling and throwing stuff, putting everything in the mouth. If she has started walking then you can give a pull along toy for her to walk around the house. or give any moving toy so that she will run along with the toy and will burn out the energy. give her a toy that makes sound or music to make her sit in one place and play e.g a toy telephone, puzzle box with the buttons to pull, twist, push, tug action, xylophone etc. But If you are concerned if it's the symptom of ADHD, then it's best to talk to your child's doctor.
While travelling always carry her favourite toys, blanket, books etc to keep her occupied.

Hi Sarah,
I should assure you that your child does not have ADHD ! Trust me. That is what I was concerned about with my son. He started to walk at 9 months and still does not sit still at story-time (1yr 8 month old). Babies at this age are supposed to be very restless since they are almost like a new being in totally new surroundings. My son almost behaved as if "what's next", "is this all that life is about"..."why am I being made to repeat the same thing...can we move on"!
However, I was so worried that I made sure that I took all possible steps to make sure he did not head in the ADHD spectrum. Diet (no sugar, no sweets, no artificial coloring), activities (a very well structured day) and ways to calm him down (talk in an understanding calm manner). Please do not be aggressive with her or try to suppress her restlessness, just try to reroute it. For example if she is trying to pull or tug at something that you do not want her to, show her something else as interesting on what to do with it (say a container that makes a funny sound)..each time my son stuck his finger in a plug point (despite the safety plugs) I would make a sound with my mouth like a buzzer - "Kaink...Kaink". It almost became a fun learning tool for him to do the right thing.
Just so you know, ADHD cannot be diagnosed at this early stage. Plus a lot of it is just environmental and dietery which you can work on from the very start. Try to keep it as natural as possible.

ADHD can only be diagnosed after 2 years. Somewhere between 2.3 to 2.4 years. Restlessness is a stage appropriate behavior of 1 to 2 year olds as they are just beginning to become independent and explore their world.
If you are worried that she would not sit in one place during travels, sometimes children get caught up just looking at the things outside. If you are travelling by bus or plane you can take some toys and give them one at a time to her for her to play. Once she gets bored with one toy give her another one. If you are travelling by train, you can leave her to look around for sometime as trains have sufficient places to walk around and let her interact with people if she likes to as that itself will keep her busy. Also keep a very close watch on her when letting her go around.

Even my son used to suffer from indigestion very frequently. I hope you are giving her gripe water twice a day(get the woodwards gripe water as it does not contain alcohol). Also give her only rice based diet and soup after 7 PM. Avoid milk(the ready made ones like nan, lactogen etc) and dhal varieties after 7 PM. She will get over it by around 1.5 years

nice tips by roshmom and roses..sarah, there is a difference between being active, playful, naughty and having ADHD..u r not alone in your fears..8 out of 10 moms start panicking to see their kid jumping, running, hopping, not sitting.. i am so surprised at the rising concern for ADHD.. i would actually call it 'internet induced hypochondriasis'..we read up a material on net and we get worried to see matching symptoms in ourselves or kids..calm down. and remember this mantra "whenever you have a doubt of your kid having a behavioral problem, look at other kids around"..is your kid much more jumpy than others his/her age? do not compare her jumpiness with that of adults in the house (we do it unconsciously)..and you will be relieved to find out that your daughter is absolutely ADHD-free!
what do you mean by indigestion? lose motions? vomitng? lack of appetite? bloating? gas? constipation? with kids you have to keep giving home based remedies for their problems..there is never a permanent cure. :)

Thanks all for your convincing replies. I am trying my best to make my daughter sit atleast for a while playing with toys.
Generally I dont give her any sweet dishes. But since my in-laws are tehre with me, they feel that by giving her sweets, she gets more energy and they try a lot by making her eat more of them. And since they are elders, they never lsten to my advise saying that "we have taken care of small kids, dont we know what is good, waht is bad for them".
Sometimes it becomes really difficult for me to convince. Interesting point is that, they dont have belief in what doctors day.
Aanchal, my daughter frequently suffers from gas. And during that time, she becomes very fussy followed by a bit of vomiting. We used to give her Buffalo milk (She doesnt like Cow milk). But I guess that doesnt suit her since it is very thick. And nwo we started giving ehr Lactogen 3.

your baby is a little too young for cow's milk..to the best of my knowledge, cow's or buffalo's milk should be given only after 1st birthday and that too with care. same with other things like honey, egg products. may be the gas problem is coz you started it too early..what about breastfeeding?

I am still breast feeding her but only during nights. Actually that is not sufficient for her sicne my milk supply has redcued a lot. I had no toehr go other than give her Formula.

i would suggest u to stop giving her animal milk for couple of weeks and see its effect on her colic problem..still consult her doc to be double sure
