Are the best schools really so far away?!! - Page 1

Hello,

I stay in  Malad (East) and my son, Aaryan, is currently in Nursery at  Lakshadham Playmate Pre School here in Gokuldham.  I am looking at changing his school next year because I am not too happy with his current school. But the problem is that any school that is considered even 'one of the best in Mumbai' is just too far away. 

We had tried to get the form for Gundecha in Kandivali last year.. but they didn't issue any form for "other areas". Now this area-specific form issual, though good in many ways, is quite a put off.

I am now wondering where I can try for his admissions next year. The only choice (based on my impressions of the kids I've observed) seems to be Vibgyor International school in Goregaon (West). Much as I'd like to have my son go to a Bombay Scottish or a Maneckji Cooper, it just might not be possible because I can't shift out of here. 

But just for curiosity sake, I would like to know if anyone from this part of the city is sending their kids to Bombay Scottish in Powai?! Do they issue admission forms to people who don't reside in and around Powai?

 I don't have a reply to your query, but was wondering if you did find a good school. I'm in a similar predicament: Lakshdham High School is one of the schools in which I've been thinking of enrolling my daughter ( who is almost 2 and a half years) in,  next year. So, I was interested in knowing the specific reason you were not happy with this school...

Further, I think you should also review Billabong High in Malad West. it seems to be a good school (based on what I've observed from the children who go there and the parents too, seem very happy). Thanks and all the best....

I am looking at Playmate for my son next year. What specifically dont you like abt the school? also what did u change to finally?

 hi all malad east parents, my kid is 5year old when he was small i searched from best of best schools... but when u talk to the parents of that school u reallay come to know the drawbacks.. of the school.below details were given to me from respected school parents

AT VIBGYOR.- its a new school and i have heard that the first floor is given to bmc..... so do not know how the crowd will be over there.... as its a new school teething problem will be there in first few years..

AT BILLABLONG- I HaVE HEARD THE FEES ARE TOO HIGH.. AS PER THE EDUCATION LEVEL....SO IT depands on your financial position...as your child grows fees increases..

AT UNIVERSAL HIGH- AS ITS A DAY BOARDING ... THEY HAVE LOTS OF ACTIVITIES and very less studies.. so its good for working womens.. and they do not provide books at home so it is very difficult for us to know were our child stands...

AT CHILDRENS ACADEMY - the EDUCATION IS GETTING DEGraded day by day.. they give lots of pressure to the child.. always the parent of children academy is cribbing that there child does not get any time to play... or for any other outdoor activity...

AT SHARADA GYANPEETH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL- its a upcoming icse school... the education level is too good... the teachers at pre primary are very good.. they make the child learn phoenix so well that the child starts learning words and reading them too fast.. i have heard lot regarding this school. but the problem here is the crowd... they have all mix crowd here.....upper class.... upper middle class..lower class... all toggather/... but the education i have heard is too good.

hey SMITHA as ur child is at lakshadham why u want to change the school? please let me know that.... as i have many childrens in my society going to lakshadham...?

see there is always positive and negative side in a school but we should always prefer education as first priority.... activities can be learned in other way also... but eductaion is must... a child learns fast till the age of five,,,, if proper education is given at right age.. they pick up things fast.. so i am not telling that u make ur child study all day.. but  that is more important in this todays world....as todays generation are really fast learners.................they have good iq level then us....

I finally did change to Vibgyor this year. I am happy with this school and have seen a lot of development in my son. Everybody has a different perspective to education, I believe. And for now, this school suits mine.

Nothing wrong with Lakshadham or Playmate; just that it wasn't what I wanted. Now I am glad that in this school, English speaking is encouraged; there are story telling and book reading/enacting sessions; sports activities; co-curricular activities and regular interaction from school authorities. Of course, it is an added advantage that the school is close by :) in Malad/Goregaon (east).

Thank u for sharing ur views abt VIBGYOR....believe u r referring to the one which is opp. Oberoi Mall.

I'll b enrolling my kid to nursery for the academic yr 2012-13 n hence was looking forward to some reviews abt VIBGYOR..

Will u pls b able to share the admission procedure per say @ VIBGYOR? N what is the interview process for school admissions all about (m a first time mom hence the basic queries).....

I was also considering Vibgyor opp. Oberoi Mall. My kids too studying in Playmate.  Playmate is very good upto Sr.Kg. But student teacher ratio after that is 1: 40 whereas for Vibgyor is 1 : 10. I was only worried about them getting accredition from ICSE. Do they have a playground??

Anyone been to Gundecha yest for the forms?? (it was for the siblings n for ppl in the locality).....how was the turnout.....ne experiences to share???

Has anyone been lucky enough to get a 'call' from Gundecha reg the admission status??? We did get the forms n were told tht all 35 forms issued r waitlisted n tht we would get a call by oct 15th, sadly we r still waiting :(

Just wanted to know, how is the infrastructure at Vibgyor. Your child must be completing the academic year, how did you find the school visavis teaching and facilities for extra curricular activities??

And yes also regarding theur bus facilities.. are they good?

Any news about the first floor being given to BMC?

 Thnks Smita. I will visit the school an decide. Fees I believe is approx 1 lac p.a. and at present they are not charging any deposit. Any idea when their building construction will b complete?

Preety, Agree with you, for parents today, selection of school is a tough job. Have to consider so many things.

My kids are currently in Playmate Preschool, Gokuldham, will be in 1st std next year. The only issue with Gokuldham is timings which are 1-6 and student teacher ratio. Otherwise, the school is considered very good for academics.

 HI SHKM AND OTHERS I HAVE ALSO DECIDED ONCE ON GOKULDHAM BUT ITS LITTLE BIT FAR FROM MY PLACE.. SO CONFUSE TO CHANGE SCHOOL OR NOT AS MY DAUGHTER IS STUDING IN THE SCHOOL WERE EDUCATION I SGIVEN MORE PREFERENCE THEN ACTIVITIES AND I AM HAPPY WITH THAT BUT THEN TOO THINKING TO CHANGE THE SCHOOL FOR OTHER REASONS TOO. AS THE CROWD IS MIX IN HER SCHOOL FROM LOWER CLASS TO UPPER MIDDLE CLASS AND EVEN UPPER CLASS.. WHAT TO DO JUST CONFUSE TO CHANGE OR NOT TO CHANGE... AS MY CHILD IS VERY HAPPY IN THE CURRENT SCHOOL SHE IS GOOD WITH STUDIES ALSO .. LET SEE .... JUST WANT TO FIND BEST SCHOOL FOR MY CHILD.. My experience wth playmate preschool hs been quite mixed they dnt encourage eng spnkg n the teachers arent even concious of the fact that children pick up maximum languages easily wen they rthat young dnt mind me saying that the general crowd pulled is v average me coming frm delhi i ws taken by this huge shock we hav been dealing wth more polished set of ppl all throughout evn if i ignore this factor nt too happy wth my childs curriculum at school the old age method of worksheets schools r pretty fast paced bck in the north more creative and variety of activities wer there in d last school amity my ward attended yes wer paying a lakh out there n here its peanuts i need to study the city more to understand wer is the holistic approach my child deserves the best n i shall make sure she gets it
