 Hi ladies,

I am new to this group. I have a 8.5 month old son who is not sitting up (getting up from a lying position on his own) yet. He can sit and play if i put him in a sitting position but he doesnot get up on his own. We consulted a doc yesterday and she said his muscle tone is good, he will do it on his own. However, he is showing no inclination to sit up on his own, he is perfectly happy to lie down and keep playing.

I am beginning to worry. What can i do to encourage him? What have been other mommys' experience?

Please feel free to give any advice / suggestions.

Thanks, Bhawna

hi

I have been reading a few posts on internet.... I have found one which may be helpful to you. I guess you should not worry.

http://www.babycenter.com/404_my-child-doesnt-sit-up-on-her-own-yet-what-should-i-do_6880.bc

I have a four month ( and 12 days) old and she is still not turning over. Every one is worried the she is slow or something. But we must not worry too much. as long as they play , smile feed and sleep well and doc says all is good I guess they will reach their milestones on their own.

Every child is different and we can push them to be the superman or super women!!

if doc has given an ok check, dont worry..give him some more time. some children do things late without any reason

Some babies skip milestones. Its perfectly ok. as he is able to sit if you put him in sitting position, so that shows that he is alright. He may soon get up and walk or crawl straight away instead of sitting.

one of my friends kid didn't speak properly till 3 years. But after that in 6months of gap he was able to pick up every thing quickly..........

You kid might start walking directly instead of sitting which are few cases as well. So do not worry and let the kid take his own time to get things by him/her self.
